Nickel electroplating, its easy, you can do it yourself!

In this video I put a four step process together and show you how to nickel electroplate a item using easy to obtain items, and lay out the four step process that includes, making your own power supply, how to making the nickel acetate solution, cleaning the item to be plated, and the electroplating process, I hope you enjoy this easy to do science project that can be very useful for restoration purposes or just for fun!!

You need higher voltage and more salt to make a good solution for that amount of fluid, it took me about 5 hours at 11 v to get 4 times the green you got.

Question. When making nickel acetate, not plating, does higher voltage yield a better solution?

The solution will be created faster for sure, but quality depends on the dark green it turns into, the darker the better, the faster it turns dark green is solely based apon the voltage amount that runs between the two electrodes that does that,

If you had a heated, stirrer plate under it, would that make the process better? ty Also, in regards to salt. We have plain table salt, we have Kosher salt, we have Sea salt, and we have epsom salt. Which one is the most effective...looking for the best possible outcome.

Make your part hanger out of a nickel rod so whole part can be submerged and your connector is outside the solution like the rest are

Can you use this same procedure but electroplating an aluminum tube?

Yes, you can plate nickel on aluminum and also plate other metal to aluminum as well, like silver, gold, copper, tin, but problems can occur with types of aluminum items and its a common occurence, when plating aluminum an oxidization happens and it prevents proper plating adhesion and bad results can occur,

Possibly, "stir the solution" while leads are disconnected to keep the salt suspended. Should have done a quick dip in muriatic acid to get all of your paw prints off of it before plating. too much fidgeting...be patient and let the process complete itself.. plating is not a hurried/magical process. good luck in future videos.
