Good for them, taking something like that in stride and not letting it bother them. Nickelback isn't exactly my favorite band in the world, but I don't hate them. I don't understand all of this hate. Just because you don't like their music doesn't mean you have to burn them at the stake. I respect them more because of this.

If you read the lyrics you'll find out what a good 50% of their songs through their history are about. The United Way was in charge of the Halftime Show for fund raising and they asked Nickelback to represent them. They have a ton of humanitarian songs. They did the show without pay for the UN. They are involved in charity work all of the time and in many ways.

OK just to make this clear, the local artist he talks about is NOT, i repeat, is NOT KID ROCK! its Mayer Hawthorne! look up mayer hawthorne halftime show on google and you'll see, he even made a video to play the halftime show instead of nickelback. chad and kid rock are good friends, they even made a song together and they chill backstage, etc.

Nickelback and Kid Rock have a great relationship (they hang out together, they covered elton john's song saturday night's alright together, hell Chad uses Kid Rock's old tourbus, not sure if he still does though). It was this other artist named Mayer Hawthorne (look it up on google). Mayer Hawthorne made a video to replace Nickelback on the halftime show. They are talking about Mayer Hawthorne, NOT Kid Rock :)

It doesn't take a talent scout to see that this band doesn't deserve to be the second best selling band in America right behind The Beatles. Sure, they've had songs like Photograph and We Stand Together or whatever, but when you make millions of dollars selling music that makes you "feel good", that's when I call BS. As for selling out, since I don't write music, I wouldn't dare make a judgment call on that concerning any artist. Unless one writes songs, I don't think that's justifiable. I like some of Green Day; I said I take each song for its own merit. I happen to like many of these guys' songs. I have yet to have someone give me a good working definition of originality here! Personally, I'm not a fan, but I don't think they're hurting anyone by playing. If you don't like it, change the channel during halftime. And regardless, the more popular you are, the more haters there will be. A band with 50 fans might have 2 haters. But a band with 50 million fans will have 2 million haters. Simple math.

I am Canadian and I do not like Nickelback. Most of the people I know dislike them as well. It's not the band personally. I'm sure they are nice guys. I just do not enjoy their style of music as it all sounds the same. Because of this, I am still astounded to hear them gain so much recognition. If you've read reviews, they are often met with mixed if not negative reviews. Please do not bash me on my opinion. I am just stating what I feel.
