I was there for the Pinball era. I remember when the station went off the air in the evening. Theme song still rings in my head. Hopefully the executives would consider reviving it for some anniversary year.

Depended on what year and what cable systen. Sometimes, Nick would sign off as early as 4pm, and A&E would sign on the same channel immediately after. Sometimes In between, you'd actually hear the network dial in on TV.

All I can say is this brings a tear to my eye when I watch these older promos and segments. Nickelodeon was so good at this time that it seemed like a heaven for kids and teens alike. Now, it's pretty much like every OTHER TV network out there today. Bland, boring, and saturated. I can't look forward to watching new shows. Because the feeling isn't there anymore.

Great clip. I remember being in sixth grade in the late 1980s watching "Double Dare" every day at 4:30 after school. Then the Nick at Nite programming would begin out here at 5pm, because it was 8:00 Eastern time (I didn't get it either). Sadly, Nickelodeon was a shell of its former self by the mid-90s.
@Diskoboy197415 жыл бұрын
You kids not old enough to remember the Reagan years sure did miss alot. Gen X witnesse SO MUCH in our lives - the dawn of the digital age. The birth of cable TV, then being able to record it! I used to dispise this when it came on nightly, back in the early 80's. Up until last year, I remember longing to hear this again. Now it just puts a giant smile on my face. To me Nick peaked in 1984, they started phasing in the current logo, then Nick didn't feel right, anymore.
@xreddragonx16 жыл бұрын
EXACTLY, dgwaters. The NEA wouldn't touch post-1990 Nickelodeon with a 10 foot pole.

Nice to see an observation here from someone who was actually there. Although I am sorta envious of your memory span, since my memories of being 4 yrs old (1986-87) are extremely vague, even more when it comes to TV. Luckily much of Nick's great early shows were still airing from 1988-90.

I remember this ident well as a kid which was usually something I hated to see at the time, because it meant the end of Nick for the night and the beginning of the stage acting and cultural shows that A&E were showing at the time. But now that I have seen it some 20 something odd years later I think very fondly of it and miss the Nickelodeon that I grew up with.

Fun fact - in 1982 there was a very non PC show that made it debut on Saturday January 2,1982 and then moved to Wednesdays at 4 PM and 7 PM EDT beginning on January 6, 1982. I am pretty sure the NEA did not see or even know about this show. :) This show was the exact opposite of just about every single thing nickelodeon had on the air at that time. One could say the kids only tuned in to Nickelodeon only on Wednesday afternoons during the first part of 1982. :) This program contained a scene with blood, guns, smoking, people being shot at a firing squad, dungeon torture, and a lot of politically incorrect stuff, and a girl who could not keep her mouth shut. :) Of course it was the very show described above that became Nickelodeon's #1 smash hit when the mid '80s arrived. :) The most 'infamous' thing from that show is what most of nickelodeon's promos and merchandise were centered around. :)
