Watched this at my grandmother's house when we used to go visit. We didn't have cable. So, it was the only time I got to watch it. Plus, my grandmother lived in Jacksonville Alabama where there was absolutely nothing to do but play by yourself and be bored. This show was my only entertainment. Man I miss those days.

I totally remember PINWHEEL!!! I wish kids today could experience the magic and the innocence of the 80s...
@Saitaina3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the innocence of the cocaine filed 80’s of big hair, big shoulders, sexual discrimination and Wall Street about to crash onto our heads. It wasn't innocent when we lived it, we were. I like living NOW where we are more open, where people feel allowed to live as they are. Just wish I wasn't 40...like maybe eleven, but with my adult brain. 😁

It's amazing how obscure this show is considering that it literally started the first and most successful children's tv channel of all time. Cartoon network took a similar path, the first ever original cartoon network show was the moxy and flea show, and there are no known home releases of it and is mostly lost. It wasn't even mentioned during cartoon network's 25th anniversary celebration.

Wow, this takes me back to when I was a kid far away in that magical decade known as the 1980s. Eating Rice Krispies and watching this great children's show. They really need to bring shows like this back for kids these days. Everything now is imported anime from Japan and Spongebob. Seriously, I don't even know how some of these kids shows today have the "Educational" rating in the top left corner. No kid needs to be "educated" on how to capture a Pokemon or the spastic ramblings of a damn sponge.

Yes. If memory serves correctly, it was known as The Pinwheel Channel (or Pinwheel Network) until 1981 or 1982, when the same parent company that owned MTV (I think it was Viacom) and changed it to Nickelodeon. The Pinwheel Channel was only available in the local markets of Canada and the upper midwest (Minnesota, the Dakotas, and I think Montana). At the time there was very little children's programming in the way of all ages. You had Sesame Street, which was aimed at the toddlers and preschoolers (up to age 4 or 5). You had some programming that was aired in local markets geared towards more older children (10 and up), but very little in that magical 6 to 9 range. That's where Nickelodeon filled in. The flagship show for the Pinwheel Network, Pinwheel, had the format for that set. You had the bright colors, memorable characters, and simple storylines for the 6-year-olds, and many of the cartoons and actual dialogue was more distinguishable by the 9-year-olds. Hell, even as an adult I find bits of it enjoyable, and not just for the nostalgia. I find many of the cartoon segments, which came from different parts of the world (mainly European countries and more than likely Canada), as enjoyable. Some of the dialogue between the human actors and the puppets, especially the "adult" puppets (Ebenezer T. Squint, Silas the Snail, Orelia Ball, and Molly Mole) may seem simple at first, but there's a bit of complexity there as well. Over the years Nickelodeon grew to become what it is today. Even though the programming today seems to be shit compared to what it was when "first generation Nick Kids" were, well, kids, it still holds its ground. I've found some fairly modern Nick shows (90s and early 00s) to be just as enjoyable, such as Fairly Oddparents, Danny Phantom, Doug, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, and Spongebob Squarepants. Yes, it seems Spongebob has become more simple or dumbed-down compared to the earlier seasons, but I know many adults who enjoyed it when the earlier seasons first aired.

Katie Baily Believe it or not, Pinwheel pre-dated Sesame Street by almost 10 years. It wasn't just a show, it was it's own cable channel for many years, started by a philanthropist who wanted to provide educational programing for children. I remember this so well from when I was just barely five years old. And I didn't have any biases towards it or Sesame Street, I loved them both. No, I don't think kids are being cheated out of good shows. There a lot of quality educational programs now that are just as good, if not better than the ones I had at that age.

Pinwheel Theme Song. Pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around. Look at my Pinwheel and see what I've found! Pinwheel, pinwheel, where have you been? Hello, how are you? and may I come in? Pinwheel, pinwheel spinning around. Look at my Pinwheel and see what I found! Pinwheel, pinwheel, breezy and bright. Spin me good morning, spin me good night. Pinwheel!
