This sequel is proof that a sequel can be superior to the first film. Everything that did not work for the first film was fixed and everything that did work they just did better this time around. Hey Nick, I think people might have been more upset about the “Monsters” comment because the Addams family is often confused/mixed up with another beloved show- The Munsters. In the Munsters the family are actually monsters, the mother is a vampire, the father is a Frankenstein’s monster and the son is a werewolf. I know some people get very frustrated when they two get mixed up as they’re both great in their own rights and sometimes get lumped together. I personally didn’t think it was upsetting as I could see what you meant, the Addams’ seem to be far more resilient than the average human being! They’re just a fun spooky family who happen to be good at surviving. I adore this film, glad to see you reacting to it! Morticia and Gomez remain couple goals and also parent goals, I love how even though they don’t understand why their kids would want to go to camp or read the cat in the hat they still do it for them because they love them and want to make them happy.

The joke with the Addams' is.. if its "respectable", "normal" or "traditional", they hate it. But anything weird, inappropriate, or dark, they love it. They're like carnival freaks who settled down and got rich. And while there not monsters, they're 'supernatural adjacent'. The movies sort of taken the tone of the 1960s tv show, but cross it with the darker jokes and style of the original comic strips, where it began.

Someone else probably said this already, but Pubert is a boy, played by twin girls (you can only film with babies for a few minutes at a time, IIRC, so they almost always use twins). The guillotine scene has them dressing Pubert up as Marie Antoinette at her execution. (Although, up until the early 20th century, baby boys wore gowns, too -- easier for toileting).
@Imaginationdiva0162 жыл бұрын
There was a theory I spotted while going through reddit several months ago and I like how it was structured: Basically the Addams family, since their great ancestors, had a curse put upon them. Anyone within the family can't kill one another because "they're an Addams" -- but an Addams can be killed by outside forces (i.e. anyone from outside the family) -- refer back to the first movie when Tully scratched Gomez's hand and actually drew blood. This explains why, no matter how many times Debbie tried to kill Fester, she couldn't do it because she officially became an Addams upon marrying him.

Oh, hon don't worry about the confusion in regards to their more superhuman abilities. If anyone was truly offended by the word monster, it was likely more based on the typical negative implications with the word. But I think most of us understood that you were just referring to them as that because of the specific moments that would have killed regular humans, and so it was simply on the same level as calling them supernatural beings or something, and not necessarily as an insult as some may have taken it.

I really love the family aspect in this, I mean it was wonderful in the first one, but this one is just ❤️💞 Like, despite every single one of them being Odd and finding the "common stuff" to be strange and distasteful, when Pubert goes "normal" there wasn't a moment of hesitation in still making him happy. In finding the things that He would find enjoyment from. Even if Morticia found the books silly or disappointing at the end, she still read them. They kept the remade the room. Like no matter what the children's interests are, they're supportive. They're always supportive. Same with the double date scene with the adults. I love the bond with the brothers and how much Gomez hypes up his brother. He's got everything, he landed the woman of his dreams and he does everything he can to give the best advice. instead of being arrogant or standoffish like some movies would portray him, because he's the more attractive and suave brother, the one who landed a wife and has a family and the wonderful, ideal life, he's instead still so supportive of his brother. Even the moments in the first movie when he's opening up about feeling jealous of Fester. It's just so wonderfully done cause while they are a bit odd and a little intimidating, the love and affection the family has for one another is unmatched. And it's sad. Because if Debbie had been honest in the beginning, if she'd just told them the truth of who she was and that she wanted acceptance They. Would. Have. Loved. Her. Same in the first movie, if that dude just came to the parents and was honest that he was in a rough spot and desperately needed financial help, they would have helped him.

The creator of the Addams family said that they were normal humans with a deep fascination and attachment to the spooky and unusual. Not sure if anyone in the comments mentioned it, but the "nice music" at 6:50 was the French national anthem. They dressed the baby as Marie Antoinette. ;)

I think most people enjoyed this one more as kids because it's Wednesday's story really and most of us probably had an experience with camp or parents or teachers who'd not let us be different, but objectively I think the two films are about equal. I think this one's a bit darker (there are a LOT of murder jokes) where the 1st one manages to be more fun. Raúl Juliá (the dad) sadly passed away from cancer soon after but took on one last role in "Street Fighter", a video game adaptation, because his kids loved the game it was based on, and his performance as the villain, legendary dictator General Bison, is the best part of an otherwise pretty bad film.

Some stuff about the Addams Family... 1. They were originally from a comic strip by a man named Charles Addams. In the strip, the family was unnamed. So people just named the family after him. 2. The family is human. They're just really strange ones. (It's okay if you thought they were monsters at first, they do seem very monster-y.) 3. The Addams Family theme first appeared in their 1964 black-and-white TV series. 4. Thing was originally a giant monster who's hand could only be seen. For the 1967 show however, due to budget, they changed Thing into a disembodied hand. He's been like that ever since. 5. The Addams Family has many pets. Kitty (never seen in the first movie, but Gomez was heard shouting at her) is a lion. There's also an octopus, and possibly more... 6. The main members of The Addams Family are Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Lurch (the Frankenstein-y butler) Grandma, Uncle Fester, Thing, and probably Cousin Itt. That's all I have for now... I'll probably add some more later...(if i can find some..)

So, a few things to consider: 1) The world the Addams family lives in is one of irony and opposites. 2) Debbie was designed to be literally the best wife for an Addams. Morticia respected her power. She really did. 3) I actually wish Debbie didn't die, and I wish the family would have survived the electric chairs. They break free, go up, embrace her, and go. "Debbie, we really love you. We welcome you into our family. Be one of us." 4) At the scene with the electric chairs, the part where Gomez says "Hands". If you listen carefully, you can hear them struggling to raise their hands. Truthfully. So, the desire to have Debbie as a sister in law was truly sincere. I mean, they admire strength, and cunning, and the dark. She would have joined them for sure and been a different person from it.

Had she not tried to separate the family I bet she wouldve made a fantastic Addams. Heck, you even said so during the dinner scene, it wouldve been great for Debbie to actually fall in love with Fester at the end because he wouldnt have cared that she was a greedy killer; he probably would have loved her even more for it!

Regarding monsters vs. humans, they're *Addamses*. Mostly, they're human, just with the reflexes and resilience needed to not just survive their shenanigans but to thrive amidst them. And psychologically atypical. As others said, the reaction to "monsters" was likely at least partially fueled by seeing them confused with the Munsters one too many times.

I was about to go to sleep early for once,but I can't wait for this movie!!🤩🖤08:45 - 08:49 And this is why.😎🖤 02:39 - 02:41 This is 1 of the scenes in which the fact Thing is called Hand in Italian allows us to have 1 more joke.Gomez here says:"Let's shake the hand...Hand."Same here 15:57 - 16:01 it makes much more sense to say:"There's Hand." "Oh,I know,I know.But I want more!Legs,elbowas,A HEAD." 04:42 - 04:46 Fun fact:Pubert is a boy,but he's played by 2 little twin girls. 14:03 - 14:06 In case you didn't notice,that's the same actress who played the girl scout in the 1st movie.😉 16:18 - 16:31 In Italian they say:"Nice seal swimsuit." "Nice walrus teeth."and:"Can I be the one who drowns?!😊" "Yes:FOREVER.💀" 16:40 - 16:41 GENIUS. I love her!🤣👿 23:08 - 23:12 No,you saw her parents already!Did you forget?😅 34:46 Cute little angel Pubert!:-3 💛💙 36:53 - 36:56 In the italian version they said:"An Indian." "And a waitress too." 38:41 😎 41:11 - 41:44 🖤🖤

He's a normal folks, he'll never understand about them. Just be happy he can still enjoy it despite his world being all bright and cheery.

"But then you are feeling the little black monster." "PUGSLEY! 😃" From what I recall of the old tv show and in line with the movies, they're humans(-ish) with a strong affinity for and who probably identify much with monsters, so...

To all the people being offended because Nick said theyre monsters.. Grow up. By the way, what are they then? Look al lurch, it, thing.. The rest get tortured all the time and are completely fine afterwards. So what are they?
@Diegotheparrot2 жыл бұрын
I'll tell you. They're not human nor monsters. It's fantasy. And you shouldn't think too much about what they are. Humans or monsters, you're both correct. Now enjoy the movie.

Fun fact the girl who played Wednesday is the same girl who plays in Casper. I still think this one's better than original but they're both good movies classics.

I think I like parts and sequences of this one exponentially more than the first, but the first feels like a more cohesive whole.

The reason why they aren't worried about the baby is because the Addams are incredibly hard to kill, that's why none of them seemed worried when they were all in the electric chairs. It is even harder for an Addams to kill an Addams which is why they are so violent towards each other and why they aren't worried about Wednesday trying to decapitate the baby.
