James and his father were both military men, and British, used to orderliness and deference between the ranks - that give "I'm not your son, you're not my father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye'" the added impact of a commander and his soldier meeting as equals - a rare but poignant moment.

His father was diagnosed with kidney disease They had exhausted all chances of a donor hence this song. At the end of the video everybody was in bits apart from James’s father who retorted Why is everybody crying I am still here. Luckily a cousin saw the video came forward and was a match. His father is doing well. You are doing a great job thank YOU for the entertainment you give US❤❤

The reason his voice is different than any of his other songs is the fact he was really struggling with it while filming. The music big wigs wanted him to go into a studio to record it again. But James said no and stood firm on it. So glad he did stand up for himself

I haven't heard this song before today but I'm so glad to hear he stayed true to the music. A studio recording would have lost that raw gritty emotion he's so clearly feeling whilst singing this, and it's that quality that makes this song so empathetically powerful and graceful.

It’s an incredibly powerful piece & It’s “up there” with Mike & the Mechanics “living years” Yep! It’s DEFINITELY “one of those” perfectly captured in ONE take! Do yourself a favour & check out John Farnham (the GOAT) a musician who absolutely nails EVERY genre. His live performances are literally, legendary. He has a wonderful sense of humour & comedic timing, great audience interaction, he’s a humble down to earth Aussie (born in the Uk) he’s an ABSOLUTE must watch. John Lennon said that the version of HELP that JF did, was how it was meant to be performed. John did HELP as the first of 3 encores after a 2.5-3hour concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He sings at the very end of his performances, with just as much passion & energy as he does at the beginning. His duet with Jimmy Barnes (Cold Chisel lead vocal) “when something is wrong with my baby” is phenomenal (jimmy’s brother-in-law Diesel plays a solo feature & vocals at the end of it). SO many amazing artists from Australia, you really do need to & watch them. Please?

“Monsters” was a heartfelt tribute to his father. The emotional track reflects the deep bond between them and a touching farewell. In the music video for “Monsters,” James Blunt sings directly to the camera, his eyes welling up with tears...The video is so powerful because sitting beside James Blunt is his real-life dad, Colonel Charles Blunt. who was a former cavalry officer, battling stage 4 chronic kidney disease. The song captures the raw emotions of facing mortality and saying the things one wants to say to a loved one before it’s too late 💗 I can never get through this, without crying..........

As this video was filmed and posted James father was dying of stage 4 chronic kidney disease. A distant cousin saw the video and reach out to James and his father. The cousin got tested to see if he was a match to be a donor and he was! His dad is now well and alive thanks to the cousin. Amazing! That is actually James dad in the video too.

"Yes, James Blunt Father Still Alive, Charles Blount, the father of singer James Blunt, is indeed alive and thriving. In January 2020, he underwent a successful kidney transplant, generously donated by one of his cousins. James Blunt has openly discussed his father's health on multiple occasions, emphasizing his appreciation for the exceptional care provided by the NHS" His dad is 75 years old turning 76 next month. ;)

DK if someone already said this but there two things with this song well music video also, the producer or director forget which one wanted to do like auto-tune or whatever to make James voice sounds better since it was breaking up a lot and James said no he wanted his raw voice. The second part once the song was done for the video everyone on set was crying and his dad just said "I'm not dead yet." Or something like that.

The first time I heard this song I felt like I had been hit in the chest with bricks, it was so similar to how I approached my mother's demise. We had such a complicated and not particularly close relationship, but in those last few weeks I found it so easy to set all that aside, just sing her favorite hymns, and ultimately pull the plug when she needed it. It's crazy how such a clearly personal song can also translate to an almost universal experience.

I've probably watched 80+ reaction videos to this song in particular and probably only 5 of them did NOT cry or at least tear up anyways while watching it. And many of the ones that did, would pause the video too many times just so they could collect themselves, which means it isn't a TRUE reaction video. A true reaction means showing an authentic reaction throughout the whole video which means limiting the pauses to no more than once or maybe a couple short ones since talking can wait until AFTER the video is over since the whole point of a reaction video is to actually see your reaction WHILE you're watching it and THEN discuss it. You're reaction is exactly what I look for, it's authentic and you didn't shy away from showing your feelings nor stopped them from happening. YOUR VIDEO WAS AN AUTHENTIC REACTION. TY for showing it to your viewers. ❤❤

Oh heck. My sister and I are in our 50's, we are Daddy's little girls even as old women. He is healthy and happy in his 70's and we are blessed! Daddy is well to do, big house, fancy art and heirloom antiques through out. A small antique car collection, things some people only dream of. A few years back he asked me and my sister to make a list of what we wanted when he passes, so everyone would be on the same page. She and I did not talk about our lists, she gave hers first then a bit later I gave him mine. When he looked at mine he said "God Damn it, you girls are killing me!" He was irritated with us because we both had 1 item on our lists. The same thing, "Daddy's work jacket". When we were young he was a machinist/welder and he always wore, and still does at times, this blue work jacket. It is basically a rag at this point, but it's Daddy, the best Daddy I could have hoped for. Thank you for your genuine reaction.

Can you believe that with a voice that was so raw with emotion and yet still in tune and wonderful the one take he does, that the music people still wanted it run through the auto-tune?? We need more songs released by artists that just show pure feeling and talent in needing only one time to convey their message, sod what the industry say. It’s not perfected computer-tweaked voices we want. It’s humanity. Good on James for sticking to his guns ❤
