Lara lived on the “EuroPop Rock Charts”! Lara kick started & gained recognition within the Music Industry by singing some very successful songs by American Pop Diva’s. Lara would put her spin from the Pop Music & put that edge found in Rock Music. Sony wanted & did promote her as a International Star ⭐️ except in the United States. She was a hidden gem that 99+ % of American’s never heard of due to Sony Records. Today Lara sings in 13 languages & is able to speaks in 8 languages. She admits her Flemish is not good & finds most difficult to speak. There is a video of her singing in 12 languages on KZbin. Johnny Halliday has been around for sometime, I don’t know much about him. ✌🏼

Ok I will try to give the full context: • Johnny : The most admired singer in France from early 60s to 2017 when he died. He is the Elvis of France, sold more than 110M records WW. His concerts were huge! To give you an idea on how big he was in the french music history, just 3 anecdotes: 1. As a teenager, he was mentored by Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour themselves ! 2. He was the first one who gave his chance to a young guitarist and his band, as a supporting act to his concerts during his 1966 tour. Name of the band: the Jimi Hendrix Experience! 3. When he died in 2017, there were national funerals, with hundred of bikers on the Champs-Elysees, 1 million people long the path of the funeral procession. And this song was played when the coffin penetrated in the church. Johnny was a real vocal powerhouse, but for this concert , in this last night, best perf, the mics were balanced in favor of Lara: he wanted her to shine and found this gave more drama to the duet. • The song: this is an anthem song for him, that he used to sing alone. This was turned into a duet for Lara. The story of the song was created in reference to a very famous old french classic movie: Le Jour se Leve (1939) where the main character is barricaded and surrounded by the police, having killed a bad man who was his rival in love affairs. Here it becomes more a « Bonnie and Clyde » scene where the main character and her girlfriend are defying the police. • The venue/event: Johnny’s concerts in Stade de France ( biggest stadium in Paris and France) in front of min 80,000. Lara was one of the surprise special guest. They were supposed to perform it 3 times in a row on September 1998 (4th, 5th and 6th). The first night on the 4th, it was deluge of rain, the scene was outdoor, it was risky and they decided at the last minute, with the crowd in the stadium, to postpone it to Sep 11th . Johnny was devastated. The second night and the third night the weather was fine enough. There were 200+ musicians and 150+ chorists on stage. The orchestra and choir setup was amazing, the choir especially which was distributed on huge stairs climbing to the sky. But the night of 11th, the rain was here again. Johnny absolutely refused to cancel this time. This is this Sep 11th show that you just watched and the rein just added some dramatic effect to the whole performance. The orchestra was located under a tent. The choir was grouped on the floor and on some balconies (not on stairs anymore obviously) • Lara: she was at the beginning of her career in France and this performance became legendary and accelerated her fame there. She was just starting to be known in France when, in February 1998, she performed this song in duet with Johnny for Les Enfoires, the most attended France TV Show of each year. Johnny was so surprised and amazed by Lara performance that he decided to do this song again as a duet with her for the 3 big concerts a few months later. In between February and September, the album Pure from Lara had become an absolute mega hit in France, and Lara was already a star. But this live performance where she performs as a surprise guest definitely extended her fame and she got new fans across the entire country. This duet has become legendary and iconic in France, there is still at least one TV show every month coming back on this duet and exposing the behind-the-scenes moments.

Johnny gives Lara a huge gift by inviting her to his show at the Stade de France in 1998 for 3 nights!!! He loved Lara and he wanted her to demonstrate her vocal power and shine in front of 80,0000 people. Johnny in all his generosity.... On this third and last performance the sound of Lara's microphone is in her favor, it was at maximum (it resonated..) and Johnny's was lower.. It was Johnny who asked that it be done like that. Lara herself confirmed it. Know that Johnny was a vocal power too, but in this last performance he did not want because it was done on purpose, Johnny was very intelligent in doing that to make the song more dramatic and show their acting on this magnificent song that belongs to him. The desired goal was the dramatic side of the singing all in power but less than Lara (Johnny) with both next to him a more striking singing power (Lara) and the passionate play between the two. Everything was imagined by Johnny himself to end this last interpretation in beauty. And on top of that, this miraculous rain to make it a masterpiece, perhaps the most beautiful duet in the world.🎉💥💫

@@rubym.w7450 I don't think anything at all, that's what really happened. The proof is that there are other people who say the same thing as me in the comments under this video and under other videos. Lara herself confirmed it during an interview. And if you focus on the first two interpretations, you can hear the difference by comparing it with this third and last interpretation which is much more powerful and you can perfectly hear Lara's microphone which resonates much more because it is at maximum and J.H's lower. I don't know if you know Johnny's career but I invite you to watch the making of his concerts and you will see that he gave a lot of his opinion on the sets and the preparation of the show. In 98 he already had 38 years of career...

Lara IS world famous, only not in the USA. And that is totally to blame on producers politics in the USA. A legend... Johnny Hallyday was born on Tuesday, June 15, 1943, in Paris and passed away on the night of December 5 to 6, 2017, in Paris at the age of 74. He is the son of a Belgian father and a French mother. In 57 years of career, he recorded around 1300 songs. 180 songs were turned into music videos or scopitones. 758 authors and composers collaborated with Johnny. Johnny composed 105 songs himself and also composed about ten pieces for other artists. He also wrote and co-wrote a few songs. Johnny also has 545 duets with 188 different artists on 214 tracks. His first 45 RPM record was released on March 14, 1960, but it was on December 30, 1959, that he was heard for the first time on the radio in the show "Paris cocktail." On April 18, 1960, under the "patronage" of Line Renaud, he made his first television appearance in "L'école des vedettes." 57 years later, 93 certifications including 41 gold records, 4 double gold records, 23 platinum records, 8 double platinum records, 5 triple platinum records, and 12 diamond records (including one double diamond and one triple diamond) testify to an exceptional career, crowned by 10 Victories or Special Victories or Music Honor Victory. And 2 NRJ Music Awards. Johnny is the most acclaimed French artist and the one who has sold the most records in France. The number of units sold is estimated at 200 million, including more than 110 million records sold. Imagine if he had had an international career... With 805,000 sales in one week of "Mon pays c'est l'amour" (51st album) (posthumous album), Johnny was ranked No. 1 worldwide in 2018. A stage beast recognized by all, Johnny went on more than 184 tours and attracted nearly 30 million spectators throughout his career, having given more than 3502 concerts. Johnny is the only French artist whose almost complete works have been recorded in audio and video. About twenty fan clubs (approximately 10,000 members in total). Johnny is also an actor with no less than 43 films (including appearances) to his credit throughout his career. He received a "Jean Gabin" award in 2004 for the film "L'homme du train". Johnny was a good actor, but the films they offered him were not good films, unfortunately.. He dreamed of being an actor and not a singer, but life had other plans, and fortunately so!! Johnny was a great friend of animals, he always had dogs in his life, the animal cause was close to his heart, in 2002 he performed a magnificent song against those who abandon their animals. The song is titled "Au bord des routes" from the magnificent album "À la vie à la mort." In 2016, a year before his death, he was on a motorcycle road trip with friends on American roads, and it was then that he found an abandoned puppy by the side of the road. He couldn't resist and adopted her; the little dog is named "Cheyenne." He also sang a song that evokes the brutal repression by Chinese authorities of the Tiananmen Square protests in June 1989, the song is titled "Tien an men" from 1991. He was a man with a big heart. He was made a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1997, he has also been an officer of the Order of the Crown since 2001, but above all, he has been a knight of the Arts and Letters since 1995. He has sung in several languages (English, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese and German). By listening to his songs, you will realize that this great singer was capable of singing anything. There is something for everyone: rock'n'roll, rhythm and blues, soul, psychedelic rock, soft rock, pop rock, rockabilly, country, a rock opera album (Hamlet) from 1976 (This album was ahead of its time). A unique voice... His voice has continued to evolve over the years, becoming more and more powerful and precise. Johnny can be compared to the greatest singers in the world!! He brought together the rich, the less wealthy, and the poor. He brought together several generations. He gave exceptional concerts, with wild entrances like at the Parc des Princes in 1993, entering from the back of the stadium and parading through the crowd for three consecutive nights. (no one had done that before him). and he did it again in 2013 at Bercy, in 1998 he arrived by helicopter above the Stade de France, in 1984 at the Zenith he emerged from a giant hand (they had to break a wall to get the hand above the stage), in 2012 at the Stade de France he arrived in a giant flying ball resembling a mine, which landed on stage, and so on. Here are some songs: "Quelques cris, L'envie, Allumer le feu, Ce qui tue pas nous rend plus fort, Tu es elle, Que je t'aime, Je te promets, Quelque chose de Tennessee, Vivre pour le meilleur, Pense à moi, Marie, Laisse moi tomber, S'il nest pas trop tard, Ma religion dans son regard, Le temps passe, Si tu pars(2005), Mon plus beau Noël, Te savoir près de moi, Sang pour sang, Aimer vivre, Ça ne change pas un homme, True to you, Cadillac, Je ne suis pas un héros 'Bercy 1990', Requiem pour un fou 'Parc des Princes 1993', Derrière l'amour, Gabrielle, Ce que je sais, Moulin à vent, C'est du vent, Voyage au pays des vivants, À tout casser, Fumée, Comme si je devais mourir demain, J'ai oublié de vivre, Elle m'oublie, La musique que j'aime, Ma gueule, L'instinct, Diego 'Bercy 92', Animal, Un jour viendra, I am the blues, Ça ne finira jamais, De l'amour, La douceur de vivre, La paix, Debout, Pardonne-moi, Vent de panique, La loi du silence, Seul au beau milieu d'un lac, Sable mouvant, Ne m'oublie pas, Mon pays c'est l'amour, Made in rock'n'roll, Qui ose aimer, Autoportrait, Rock'n'roll attitude, Rester libre, J'ai pleuré sur ma guitare, L'amour peut prendre froid(duet with Céline Dion), Ne reviens pas, Rock'n'roll star (movie)duet with Fabrice Luchini(actor), J'la croise tous les matins, Quand le masque tombe, Et puis je sais, Pirate de l'air, Un rêve à faire, M'arrêter là, Essayez, Le coeur en deux, Entre chiens et loups, Un monde à part, A propos de mon père, Regarde moi t'aimer, Jamais(duet with Florent Pagny), Je serai là, Mirador, Les vautours, J'oublierai ton nom(duet with Carmel), Le chanteur abandonné, Toi tais-toi, Ne tuez pas la liberté, Montpellier, Il nous faudra parler d'amour un jour, J'ai épousé une ombre, Je n'oublierai jamais, Je suis nu je suis mort, Il me faudra plus de temps que m'en donnera la vie, Le bol d'or, Noël interdit, De la race humaine, Le pénitencier, La terre promise, La fille aux cheveux clairs, La fille de l'hiver, Sage pour vous, La tournée, J'aimerais pouvoir encore souffrir comme ça, La guitare fait mal, Parties de cartes, Pardon, Un cri, L'amour à mort, Prière pour un ami, Rouler vers l'ouest, Te manquer, Noir c'est noir, Love affair(duet with Kathy Mattea), Une lettre à l'enfant que j'étais, etcccc And many others.... 💯💣🗯💫🦾💪💥

I think the word "raw" that you used is perfect. I had never heard of Johnny Hallyday before, and am by no means versed in Lara Fabian's catalog, having just found her a few months ago. Both are spectacular in this piece, and both were so completely in this song that they were the song. I have written something similar on another reaction you did, but I especially appreciate the way you recognize that it isn't only vocal technique or even natural talent that is all that matters. In this one, it was the way that you brought out that the way you understand and interpret a specific piece of music that can elevate it to the next level. I have hesitated joining your patreon, because I am not a singer or a musician (can't carry a tune in a bucket). But, I love music and love learning more about it. I think I'll go take a look.

As a French person, I'm always stunned when a foreigner says "I had never heard of Johnny Hallyday before". People outside the French speaking countries cannot imagine how big he was. He made hits all through his long career (from 1960 to 2017) with nearly no low periods (perhaps only 2 or 3 years at the mid 60ies and at the beginning of the 80ies).

Hi Nick ! I'm French and this song has a contexctual French meaning, I'd say. In France until 1994, it was considered as mitigating circumstances the fact that a person (usually a man) would kill his wife or partner out of love and passion, it was called a "crime of passion" but I don't know if to does exist in other countries. Lawmakers considered that the killer could not hold back his anger because of too much love and passion...
@elizabethwhite1068Ай бұрын
We had that in US as well back then, but I don't know how much of a mitigating circumstance it is today. Not much of one I would think. You don't hear about it anymore and crimes against women aren't viewed through such sexist lenses, though we still have a ways to go.

To understand who Johnny Hallyday was in France, at his funeral there were 1 million people on the Champs-Elysées. When he gave concerts, he filled the Stade de France on Fridays and Saturdays. The equal of Elvis Presley, here. The duet dates from the late 90s, by which time Johnny was already a legend and Lara was a young up-and-coming artist.

She did numerous duets, but her most memorable collaborations were with Johnny (the one you just reacted to), Maurane in "Tu es mon autre," and her live performance of "La Solitudine" with Laura Pausini. Check Mylene Farmer live concert, they are great.

I would add her duets with Josh Groban, Slimane or Isabelle Boulay ( or her trio with Dimash and Aida Garafulina) in the list. Ivan Cassard being the connection between this Requiem duet and Mylene Farmer: he was the music arranger and director of both.

Internationally she also had duets with Ray Charles, Phil Collins, Michael Bolton, Richard Marx, Zucchero, …

@C.R1987Ай бұрын

Lots of people already mentionned how huge Johnny was as a singer and performer in France but another interesting thing is that he also was an actor. And I believe you can truly see both Johnny and Lara's acting skills at work here. While singing at full power...Under the rain. With orchestra and choir... In front of 80k people...

Fun fact: they actually did this song together on a TV show in 1998 and Johnny was so impressed by her that he asked her to join him on stage a few months later. It was a huge opportunity for her since he's the boss in France. He said that she was the female version of himself, which was a huge compliment coming from him. The first time they did it was so much better and intense IMO: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWGcoWydiaiZnqc

For me, the best duet of Lara Fabian is with Maurane, tu es mon autre. With Johnny it is strong, powerful, but Maurane showed her how to sing without "screaming", all in shade, and the lyrics are just divine. Go to listen, you won't regret it. ❤

In French humor, It’s a running gag even now for comedian to ask, as the first question, if Johnny is still alive when they wakes up from coma in sketchs. When he died in 2017 there was people everywhere in France that broke in tears in public, he was really their absolute favorite superstar

Dimash had the biggest crush on his idol/mentor singer in his early days, he admits. You can see it is his body language when he sings with her …one time a few years back …in a birthday concert done for Igor’s birthday….it’s a trio with famous female opera singer also (Aida F.?)…these singers with an orchestra and choir and accompanied by incredible ice skaters….beauty overload.

Reading through your comment section down below, you have been some extensive background to the happenings of this songs. Interpretation of the lyrics, which in turn gives singer guidance as to how to approach the song vocally, including how and when to apply your instrument (thru voice) to capture the mood of the song. These are two experienced singers who had at least prior knowledge of each other as artists and the capabilities and extent of their vocal abilities and performances. Johnny knew that Lara was the perfect candidate for this performance. Perhaps he did not know to what extent Lara was going to take this but he handled it like the superbly. As you was said, their voices also matched and complemented each perfectly. I have heard many opera singers doing duets, including live performances, and they were really great but honestly, I cannot think of one that comes even close as an "entire package!" Thank you for a wonderful reaction with truly very worthy and valuable commentary.

Lara and Johnny had performed the song previously once during a TV show. So not totally new for them. But, Lara is such a passionate person. She’s my favorite artist because she’s acting her songs on stage. It’s phenomenal. But, what transpires from this performance (actually performances as they did it two evenings in a row if I remember correctly), is a true mutual respect between the two artists (and probably between the human beings).

👉 This show was performed in the pouring rain in front of 80,000 people.. Requiem means: Funeral, Funeral Mass, Funeral Service. So it's a religious piece of music, an obituary, performed during a funeral. The story of the song is based on a very famous old French classic film: Le Jour se Leve (1939), in which the main character barricades himself after killing his girlfriend and is now surrounded and besieged by the police. He wants to commit suicide by provoking a police officer into killing him. At this particular concert, Johnny made sure the microphones were balanced in Lara's favor: he wanted her to shine and found that this added even more drama to the duet. * Johnny Halliday, *1943, singer, songwriter and actor. He died in 2017, all of France mourned. His funeral was televised live to tens of millions of people across Europe and Canada. 3 French Presidents were present at his funeral, including Emmanuel Macron, who delivered a 12-minute farewell address to thousands of people on the steps of the church. Johnny received a full state funeral. Paris stood still, they closed the Champs-Elyse for his funeral procession and about a million people lined up to bid him farewell. He had a 57-year career from 1960 to 2017, sold over 100 million albums, recorded over 1000 songs and wrote or co-wrote hundreds of songs. Not only was he a great musician, but he was also a very humble man out of the limelight. Johnny Halliday is a legend in France like Elvis in America.
