This album was thrown together last minute. We knew this when SFG was released as a droplet after DWHAP/WGU, suprisingly went #1, and her and her team rushed to film a MV for it. She tweeted the "lead single" for PF2 was coming soon and fans were excited. But when LTISY flopped, she retroactively decided that SFG was the lead single instead. That's not how lead singles work.. the first single is supposed to tease a new era and give fans a taste of what the album to get people excited. When SFG came out, no one even knew she was releasing an album. The fact this album had no "real" single attached to it besides LTISY was what let me know there was no artistic vision behind this album from day one. She wasted all the hype and put SFG on a compilation album instead, so it can't even help PF2 chart. And SFG isn't even an artistic song to be doing all this, it went #1 but is a crappy Dr. Luke TikTok song that she should be way past anyways. She refuses to elevate. She was literally working on songs until the very last minute and she would say this as if it was a flex. Because the album wasn't ready when it was time to prepare vinyls in advance, the vinyl physicals only have 10 songs. They will not be counted due to Billboard's rules for physicals, which states that physicals can only count if the tracklist is valid and matches the digital. We're sick of you girl. She has no team and way too much control over her career and rollout, this is why this happened. The rollout literally consisted of nonexistent things like a former HBO documentary that was moved to Tubi, whose release date has been shelved. A shopify press on nail business that sold 200$ access passes. Schizophrenia. A record label whose website has been taken offline. AMP shelving Queen Radio and shutting down permanently. MaximBet also shutting down permanently. RapSnacks... I need to write an essay on how PF2 rollout and album is a disaster. She doesnt have her heart in it anymore, she shouild have just bowed out gracefully after Queen and given the crown to Cardi or Doja or something but her ego is too big. She's stuck in her house at 40 and it shows

The second I stripped away my own expectations on a relisten and just listed to the work for the work, I appreciated this album so much more and I got the message. This was so well articulated, Zach. I can genuinely say I had almost the exact same reaction. I am a Barb and Nicki Stan through and through but I felt underwhelmed by almost everything on this album. I think the idea of calling it Pink Friday 2 added to the hype of feeling like she would potentially create a body of work that harkened back to what made me, as a fan, fall in love with Nicki in her earlier career. That’s not to say she shouldn’t evolve. I mean, it is almost 13 years later but she could have taken that same fun, empowering energy PF1 originally had and adapted it to 2023. The vibe I got from this album was sort of heavy and depressing and I genuinely feel like Nicki isn’t in a good place. She seems jaded. My intuition doesn’t lie. She seems like her spirit is a bit deflated and maybe it is. Who knows what she’s dealing with behind the scenes. However, there were SO many missed opportunities for this record. To not have Rihanna back on this to pay homage to that first collab? That would have been WILD. I also said it would’ve been sickening for her to sample herself from PF1! Drake and Lil Wayne are given features at this point so it didn’t feel specific to Pink Friday. This could have been any other album and honestly, maybe I wouldn’t have felt SO let down if she titled it something else. But Pink Friday will forever be cemented as one of my favorite albums of all time. And taste and opinion is subjective, however, I think to constantly gas Nicki and tell her everything she does is perfect is equivalent to the friend who doesn’t tell you your tracks are showing and you have lipstick on your teeth before you go out. Being the honest friend will sometimes catch you some flack but I always feel that’s the friend who really cares about you. You expressed the same sentiments as me. This will never be a bash Nicki train because I’ll always root for her. I wanted to LOVE this album but I’m also going to be transparent and say I want more from her. I miss the personas, I miss animated Nicki, Roman, Martha. And I understand maybe she doesn’t want to do that shit anymore but then you shouldn’t have teased the personas at the VMAs and more importantly, called this album Pink Friday 2. It just felt very misleading and almost opportunistic. Love Nicki, I just wanted more from this. A lot more. My opinion will morph and change I’m sure as I listen again but I know for sure I’ve never felt this way listening to a Nicki album the first time through. I genuinely wanted to skip tracks as well. It bothers me to feel this way about it but I also can’t lie about how I felt. Thank you for your authenticity !

You explained this perfectly to a T but heavy on the the why tf did she not SAMPLE HERSELF, all these mfs samples at least one should've been her ngl would've been dope to have Jay, Em or at least finally have that damn Kendrick feature on here like it got pushed back too many times to not gag us fr

After my first round listen of "Pink Friday 2," I only liked 11/22 songs. I usually live for singing Nicki but it was overwhelming on this album. The vibes were all over the place. I didn't know whether to be sad or sensual. It wasn't a rappidy rap album. It certainly wasn't as cohesive as I would've liked.

I’m not gonna lie, when I see albums that are 20+ songs, it’ll probably be a chop and it was no different for Nicki. To be quite honest with y’all, it feels like Nicki is just not inspired to make albums anymore and it feels like she’d be better off making small capsules or EPs like Drake. I respect that this is where she’s at in life, but the Barbz seem to be carrying the promotional rollout of this record more than her or Republic. And I feel as if the OGs miss the superficial, fun, campy elements of old Nicki even if she isn’t there anymore. The bars are there and some of the samples and production flatters her on tracks like Everybody but a lot of this production feels cheap, rushed, and just below Nicki at this point. I really hope Republic isn’t making her release these 2-minute, 20+ track albums to chase the stream trolling TikTok trend because the label is shaky about these album sales, because an iconic 13 track record will always age better than these bloated ass run times. I really hope this is what Nicki wanted to do and not what Republic told her to do. I don’t understand why artists like Nicki don’t utilize so many other artists and producers who would die to work with them even if they didn’t like you. Like you have access to the best voices and rappers in the industry and people always settle. Nicki isn’t the best singer, so idk why she wouldn’t call a half dozen R&B, pop, or indie singers and have them sing with her. We could’ve had another SZA/Phoebe or Beyoncé/Travis/Bon Iver moment and that doesn’t happen 😭

Let me tap my two cents in. Pink Friday Two is more of a vulnerable approach for Nicki. Its a grower like the Renaissance album and remember the general public didn't like it at first. It then became a grower getting a lot hits like cuff it being a fans favorite. Similar with pf2 with Everybody currently being favored. The GP didnt like it at firsrt cuz ppl weren't used to the sound Beyonce was experimenting. So this will be a grower. All we know Nicki is a genius. Push this as a main album. And release a deluxe version with new songs, remixes, and features we wanted. Cuz i remember her saying she have another version of pf2.

This album is so amazing sis when I tell you I enjoyed this entire album and there is something for everybody I look at this album as more of a compilation album that's full of different sounds & beats, the bars was immaculate, her arrangement of the singing was beautiful, flow changes, cadence changes, story telling, emotion, etc. this album truly embodies her chaotic life these past couple of years and how she came to this current state of peace. She did say that she was notified that on some of the songs the music was too loud so you couldn't hear her verse well so she is going to be seamlessly switching them out, but sis slayed this entire album. This album is like renaissance in terms of that some will love it and some will not like it, but the album caters to everyone you have hip hop, gospel, rnb, pop, etc all on one album. It was a 10 for me I loved it.

When "Red Ruby Da Sleeze" hit, Nicki could have bought me for half a penny. The way that song was embedded into my speakers was unreal. "Big Difference" had me very hopeful that Nicki was going to talk massive shit this whole album. I don't mind the songs to her being a mother and a wife. I wouldn't dare speak against those because of the emotions behind them, but everything else with a few exceptions, and it's a scant few at that, was a chop. I wanted Nicki to eat the rap girls up. I listened to the album three times, so I could really get into the lyrics and understand what was going on. I was underwhelmed, but there are still songs I really like: “Blessings” is my favorite followed by “Let Me Calm Down.” “FTCU,” “Are You Gone Already,” “Needle,” “Big Difference,”and “My Life” are so good! The rest are good, but eh. I’m not counting songs released as singles. I like all those. I like that I can hear traces of Pink Friday but an evolution as well. I added half the album to my library. Edit: To me, adding half an album to my library makes it a bop because it is very rare that half or a majority of an album resonates with me like that. Only albums this year that I’ve added half or more are Renaissance, Mañana Será Bonito, Age of Pleasure, and Colmillo de León. And now Pink Friday 2.
