Someone explain why songs like this stay unrated but songs like WAP blow up around the world! What emotion, deepness does WAP portray?! This song has pure emotion, and its such a beautiful song, but it's not as known as WAP! Three reasons; 1) WAP has the same appeal Anaconda did. Both are fun songs that are raunchy af (plus both fun to dance too, as I’m sure if Anaconda was released today, it would have its own tik tok dance, which is also why WAP blew up.) These aren’t songs that aren’t meant to be taken seriously*. Nicki as well as any female rapper knows this which is why their most mainstream songs are all or mostly hyper sexual. Rap THRIVES on rebellion (gangs, crime, unapologetic sex etc) 2) *As much as I hate it, I also seriously appreciate the fact that these stay underrated, because preventing sentimentality from becoming mainstream, keeps its raw emotion and essence. Truth is, if people rapped about their feelings all the time (same argument goes to men), people would either get bored easily or capitalize tf out of songs with deeper meaning (basically keep kicking horse even after it’s dead). We no longer appreciate songs about boujee/rich lifestyles anymore because we’re exposed to it so often through media etc. 3) As I said in my first reason, hyper sexuality sells in female rap, and unfortunately, not even Nicki has surpassed that “she only raps about sex” stigma on female rappers. The very thing you’re wondering about? That’s what goes through peoples heads but about Nicki. Nicki is still seen as a caricature of a raunchy female who just raps. You, me and any other fan of female rap know that’s not true, but that’s what happens when songs like Anaconda, WAP, My neck etc are made more popular than their sentimental ones. Sure, Nicki has her male peers supporting her, and while she is one of the biggest trailblazers for females today, she also has to _walk the path_ of heavy stigma, through the misogynistic roots of rap, _so these other girls can run_ . I probably bored you with that but I just thought I would add my two cents 😇
