one of his mods in his discord vc just plays it off as 'humor being subjective'. and while yes, humor is subjective, there is nuance between racist and homophobic 'jokes' and reclaiming your experiences as someone from a marginalized community and joking about it in order to cope with your experiences. when people like smelly joe do their 'edgy jokes' it really does say alot about them as a person; if theyre willing to make light about an experience theyve never gone through because they feel entitled to it, it just puts a spotlight on their privilege and ignorance.

Honestly the thing that pissed me off the most was Joey going up to a gay couple minding their own damn business and telling them others were complaining about their PDA. PDA is a privilege of straight people as so many queer folks worry about their safety if they just be themselves. If someone came up to me and my partner at the park and said this it would be incredibly scary. Him insinuating that there were other unidentified people at the park who have a problem with them is taking a safe happy moment from these men and putting them in the mindset that they are in a possibly dangerous position. Queer people get attacked and harassed all the time. We keep an eye out for it. I'm glad these men didn't seem too freaked out but thats not the case for lots of the community. I know people who have been attacked for being queer. Tricking people of an oppressed group into thinking they are surrounded by those who hate them isn't funny even if the danger isn't real.

Just so you know, the video Joe was reacting to, it's a Mexican protest against feminicides in our country and the sudden raise of feminism in general. In Mexico 11 women die from reasons related to gender every day, very few sa, r*pe, etc, cases get reported and from those only 3% get justice (women don't report because the system makes it very hard to do so), wich means 97% percent of the aggressors are still on the streets. While Nick is right, most protest are peaceful, like the song and choreography for "the rapist is you", it is also true that we had a lot of violent protest. *BUT* , it didn't happen out of nowhere, after many many many peaceful protest our government would ignore us, and the general public would dismiss us, this made feminism grow, and eventually if they didn't hear us peaceful, we would make ourselves loud enough. The so called "radical feminist" he dismisses, where VITAL, because they were the only ones brave enough to risk their life and risk getting in jail for the cause. And it worked, we're still not there yet but we have accomplished a lot. We have a couple of new laws that came to be because of the protests and abortion is on the way to being legal in the whole country. So yeah, of course I wouldn't expect someone like Joe to understand that, because he probably doesn't even have the mental capacity to even process a joke, but I wanted to let you know a little bit of it.
@leftoverpineapple92883 жыл бұрын
Im so glad someone explained the context of those clips. It truly made my stomach sick seeing him make fun of the protests. Living on Mexico i can say that there´s still a lot of people like Joe who dismiss the feminist movement, going out of their way to call them "FemiNazis" and "Radical", when in reality its just women being sick of getting dismissed and harrased. And it breaks my heart.

You're gonna destroy some stuff and suddenly women are gonna have rights?" He knows aboslutely NOTHING, of what women in Mexico have to go throught every day, we live in fear and so much worry of being literally kidnapped on our way to work/school, killed while walking home or being groped on just public transport. It's a cruel and terrifying reality we have to live every day and these brave women who he dismissed as just "radical feminists" are the only ones having the balls to actually do protests and break everything for all the sisters, mothers and friends we have lost. In Mexico at this point we're not fighting for equal rights, we are fighting to literally be able to live and get justice for everyone we have lost, and this fucking comedian wannabe used those clips of events he know nothing of for a cheap joke or "comedy" that doesn't even look like it. To add to this, there's been a lost of conversation in the UK since Sarah Everard was murdered about how men treat women on a daily basis. I can't count the number of arguments I've had with 'nOt AlL mEn' people who claim that we're overreacting and there's nothing ordinary men can do to stop the bad ones. This guy is one of the bad ones. His friends who join in on his deliberate ignorance and encourage it for their own entertainment are part of the problem.
