Nobody on youtube reviewing the new Go3S mentions that it loses 15% of it’s wide angle focal length compared to the Go3. The Go3 has a 35mm equivalent 11mm lens while the Go3s has only 16mm. It’s still wide, but it’s significantly narrower field of view compared to the older Go3.

Thanks for the review Nick. As a recent GO3 owner I did wonder if I'd pulled the trigger too early but looking at the differences I don't think the 3S has created too much buyers regret. If Insta360 could have improved lowlight more I might have thought differently but I guess you'd really need a bigger sensor for that.

Great video Nick! Major props for buying this yourself so you could create a review versus the sponsored “first looks” of other channels. How is the low light performance? Does the improved dynamic range, higher recording bit rate, and 4k help in low light? I’m really torn b/t this, the Ace Pro, and Pocket 3. Each is SO different with unique strengths and drawbacks. I have an older phone that’s still good for photos, but I want something for video when out and about or on vacation.

Hey thanks for the comment! For clarity the camera was sent to me free of charge, but the thoughts in the video are all my own. I have an extended version of this video coming on Friday where I'll talk about the low light with examples. Still doing testing at the moment. So far the Ace Pro has the best low light performance of the Insta360 cameras I've used.

A video of using the go 3s in the go 3 pod would be appreciated. I am thinking of upgrading the camera only. Some questions i have are: 1) do you get all the same functionality?, and 2) can you somehow use both cameras still, with only one pod between them? Great video and appreciate the time and quality you presented us.

Yes you can use both on the same action pod but once at Time with the action pod. To link it’s easy : just put the Go 3 / 3S in the action pod 👍

@@OneTakeSunday You can use both. The Go 3 / Go 3S don’t need action pod to film :) Several possibility : - Go 3 alone & Go 3S alone (set before the shortcut/quick capture) - Go 3 in action pod & Go 3S alone - The contrary - Go 3 in action pod & Go 3S link to phone

The Go3S being compatible with the older Go 3 Action Pod, is Game changing- You can buy the Go3s Standalone and it’ll fit with the action pod perfectly 😮 so now u don’t need 2 action pods if you have 1

Great video, but there was something I needed to tell you. The sound design was terrible, every once in a while I was hearing a sound similar to emergency sirens. Please consider not using any sound similar to emergency sound and common notification sounds as the recurring background music in your videos. No pro mode? Like freeform? Where you record and select vertical or horizontal video later in post? Does the horizon lock while recording? Or will the video keep switching from 9:16 to 16:9 if you move the camera around?

I returned my 3s because of this missing feature. The horizon levelling was terrible compared to the Go3. Any more than 10 degrees and the horizon is slanted. Apparently because of the new rectangular sensor, pro / freeform will never be possible. Bought a standard Go3 with no regrets.

Thinking about getting a few small cameras for recording live concerts, so I can mix the recordings with the ones from my two Sony A7iv. The venues are sometimes pretty dark… Do you think that this camera would be suitable for that..? Is there a recording limit?

I'd say if you're in a darker environment, then the Ace Pro might be the better choice as it's low light performance is much better!

Why slowmo is so bad quality? I mean because of what? Fir ex on iphone also 240fps is worst than 120fps so from what it depends on?

My understanding is that it's because the higher the frame rate, the more data is being recorded. Since these cameras have a speed limit on the data they can process, the higher frame rate modes drop the video bitrate to be able to record it without overheating or stopping. Hope that makes sense! :)

Insta360 is a bit scummy, first they release the White only GO3, now they release it with Interval with the GO3S. Like why can't you update it to your old GO3? Or am I missing something.
