Hello Ven Nick, thank you for this message. I remind myself that any negative feelings are a consequence of my thoughts, and I use stillness and affirmations whenever I need to shift my mindset. Everything is what it is, neither positive nor negative. I’m learning that it’s only my mindset that labels any given situation good or bad 🙏

you wise word about not beating myself up are words I need to take in. It is my mind set to knock myself down and then stomp on myself for not being perfect enough, smart enough, fast enough and so on. I never miss a moment to berate myself, I am filled with self loathing and self hate. I have felt this and thought this for over 50 years so It will not be easy habit to break. I will take your words to heart and make the effort to change. thank you for all of your videos. Love and may peace prevail

I really needed to hear this, thank you. i have just graduated uni in October and im starting my first job thats actually related to my degree in 2 weeks, but i cant say im as overjoyed as i thought i would be. I started thinking back to my previous life choices and thought maybe i would have had a more secure life path if i didnt choose music, and now im stuck on this unpaved (and somewhat thorny) pathway and i dont know if it will lead to something beautiful or absolutely nothing at all. Thinking about all of this got me really stuck in my own head and made me feel really insecure and lost and honestly hopeless, i even pondered if i would be better off not being here at one point recently, however this video gave me a sense of peace. While this is still a path i must walk alone, it makes my heart feel full to know that while im walking it alone, there are others who are also paving their own path in life facing similar challenges, and hopefully we can all triumph in the end. Thank you again for this video.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart 💜…. . Live with no regrets, try everything! Say yes to opportunities. Be courageous. Knowing what I don’t want or like is equally as important as finding passions. Nobody ever died from uncomfortable… I try new things at least 3X before I decide if it’s for me. EG : dancing … finally found a style I love after many attempts at classes. Believe in yourself… May joy and contentment follow you ❤️☀️🌸

I know it's that time of year and all, but it was a relief to see this video. I feel like I've had setback after setback, and I see the people around me getting their lives together. I don't even look at social media anymore so it's purely from good old fashioned real life comparison. lol I feel like when I hit a wall and don't know what to do I try to do new things. In the hopes that maybe one of them will spark something inside and make it a bit easier to keep going. So I was glad to see that was one of the topics. I've studied a bit about Buddhism and Stoicism. It amazed me how despite originating from different sides of the Earth that there was still some overlap. In an increasingly modern world it felt reassuring to know some of these concerns are thousands of years old. One thing I was struggling to wrap my head around is the purpose of suffering that doesn't have a clear purpose. I understand that knowing suffering can increase empathy for others. But at the same time it's like how am I supposed to hold space for them when I'm trying to get the leaks out of my own ship? I try to remind myself that failure is going to happen eventually. That a lot of people have failed before succeeding. Maybe I'm looking for a sign that I'm on the right track?

Yes this time of the year can be challenging for some. I’m glad that this video was helpful during this time.

permission from Bhante.... Knowing/understanding the suffering is majorly for your liberation. Caring, sympathy for others..... just arise as side effects. When you know pain and if you are becoming enlightened, you automatically develop sympathy for others. This quality will not need any space from your mind. You will not need to water that plant, it will grow by itself

Hello all! Hope you’re having a beautiful day. I just wanted to say that The Sangha truly is the field of merit for the world, in more than one way. Yes, merit through sanghadana (alms giving to monks), but also through teachings such as these, we are granted insight into walking the path properly. The advice to change the mindset to one of kindness to oneself and others is the Buddha’s teaching of metta and karuna. “Try everything” is a reflection of the Buddha’s teaching to (paraphrasing) *test everything for oneself* in the Kalama Sutta. And “assess the situation correctly” holds the essence of “seeing reality as it is” that is really, the major reason behind Buddhist meditation. I love how Venerable Nick pulls directly from the suttas without explicitly stating that they are Buddhist teachings as EVERYONE can benefit from the Dhamma, and some people close their ears as soon as they hear something has a religious connection. Glad we are all here to hear this and spread it. Saddhu & thank you 🙏

Yes!! Trying everything is so important! I spent my whole life thinking a certain career was for me because it involves everything I’m passionate about. But the reality of the work, especially since I was doing it independently, was far more intense and energy draining than I ever imagined. Now I’m assessing either doing it as a hobby, which removes the pressures that I didn’t like, and the other portion maybe teaching again, but differently. I prefer flow so I’m changing careers into a field I was experimenting with when the other career was picking up. Never thought I would let go of what I worked towards and in my whole adult life! But it’s in trying new activities too that I’ve learned to integrate those too. Very important lesson!

You've helped me through so many trials, pain and suffering, self love and figuring out what's the point of it all. Good evening. Venerable Nick, can you share wisdom on how to be a good listener to others? I know that sounds odd, but I struggle with this for different reasons; 1. I am terrible at making eye contact. 2. I sometimes interrupt or find myself changing the subject. 3. What do I do with my hands to keep from fidgeting? Thanks for sharing your teachings, and happy New Year!

Number 1 solution is don't judge others and yourself, because most of the time people judge others on what they looks and how they will feel about you, just let it go, accept yourself and others that everything is not perfect and that's fine because our inner world is what matters the most Number 2 solution is we need to apply the 8 fold path, especially the right concentration and mindfulness on what we say, don't get attracted to the 6 senses, especially the eye, because when we see something beautiful and hear something we changed our topic, that's why we need to remind ourselves on what we need to say and do while meeting something, or just write it down on what you need to say, then when you meet up, just look what you write on what you need to say or do Number 3 solution is just relax, and let go all the worries on what will happen, just be in the moment and let it flow

It is in dark moments that a correct attitude is most important. If we fight against the darkness, we are swallowed by it and suffer misfortune. If we react to the lack of visible progress with despair and negativity, we extinguish our own inner light and block the aid of the Higher Power. If we try to persuade others that they must return to the light, we exhaust ourselves in vain now. In a time such as this is it wise to adopt a stance of outer disengagement and inner perseverance. Do not focus on or interact with the negative influences around you; this only strengthens their grip on you. Step aside, yield, let go, allow people and events to pass without attachment. Direct your attentions inside to your inner light, your devotion to what is right, your conversation with the Higher Power. To have patience with oneself is to have self-love. Progress may be slow, but there will indeed be progress after inner realignment. Growth takes time. Remember that much of the work of the Higher Power is hidden from us, and that we enable and assist it by remaining detached, accepting, and reserved in the face of negative influences.}

I don’t like this life . From what I understand it’s all my fault because I can’t fix my thoughts . The universe can be so cruel

I feel like your video was made specifically for me, Venerable Nick. This is where I am in my life currently. I have tried many paths but have always compared my progress to others which discouraged me greatly. Thanks to you, I have learned to pay closer attention to the "breadcrumbs" of each experience instead of writing each experience off as a failure.

Thanks Mr Nick for sharing your contents, but one thing which arise in my mind is about eliminating doubts. In this world doubt is the one thing which saves us and guides us, it will irritate inside of us but it is the quest to the truth, thank you.

Attempt to find doubts usefulness - truth, can only occur where so ever error is left freed to correct it.
