After trying (unsuccessfully) to really understand Malaska’s method, THIS video FINALLY made it click. The bit about the club moving on that same arc combined with the body not moving feel really gave me the understanding I was missing. Got it going at the range tonight and was effortlessly blasting all clubs. Thanks guys!!!

Jack flattened it beautifully in transition. Take note of where his left elbow is pointing at the top of the swing, then notice where it is pointing as he starts down. At the top the elbow is pointing away from the target, in transition, the elbow is pointing more towards the line the ball is on: he absolutely does not swing down on the same plane.

Some good knowledge shared, IMO it's player specific some people will player better feeling different things yet impact is almost identical on camera. For instance I just feel like I rotate really fast in the downswing with totally passive arms and ever since I've took the left side out of play which was my Hercules heel. It's just finding a feeling that works for you and sticking with it until it becomes second nature.

Mike explains what Jim Hardy calls the RIT release at 1:40. This is the same release Sergio and Furyk use vs the LOP or forearm rolling release.

One of the reasons Jack could keep his back to the target during the down swing was the fact that he allowed his head some movement. (Not rigid). Took a lot of left side tension out of the back swing...

Some seriously good nuggets of swing thoughts. For me this almost feels like the Holy Grail of what we should be doing in a swing.

Probably for most amateurs and definitely for me, my hips don’t rotate enough and my arms are too active, but glad to see this helping some golfers.

Sorry about the typo, Jack says "I never had any sense that I WAS unwinding my hips"

Love your talks with Malaska! Quick note that there’s a small typo on the Jack quote you have on the video. 😊

It comes back to golf being a game of feel than focus on actual mechanics but trying to deliver everything in its correct sequence as the end game.

Agree . Your hips unwind with a 30 y chip alsp...they unwind as a effect and not as a cause.

Nicklaus would pick up his left heel and then slam it back down square to target line. Firm left side with restricted rotation.

He said that he pushed off his back leg, so he certainly tried to create some power from his legs.

How did Nicklaus eliminate his early extension?!?!

Same thing happens to me sometimes. What I figured out was that I was pulling the club toward the ball/target line and opening my shoulders to fast instead of guiding the momentum of the club over the top of my hands in front of me. Two things/feels that I'm working really hard on is the feeling of rotating my left forearm (I'm right handed) toward the ball as soon as I transition into my downswing and fighting the rotation of my shoulders until the clubhead makes it pivot...this is really hard to explain. Mike explains it a lot better than me in a video where he's teaching Jack Nicholas Jr. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZLXpaifaLiHgtk

Jack has short arms, ergo power from body, Plus excellent hands, My opinion Jacks weight and lack of exercise, 30 mins of yoga/ day

I just wish Mike show his own swing in slow motion down the line and face on. The butt of the club does not come down to his right leg

This is a little dangerous, Mike. Perhaps it’s automatic for champions but most people do need to feel a sense of actively using their lower body correctly ... at least until it becomes fully ingrained.

very true. for someone with a perfectly sequenced swing, it very much is like a guy with a good arm throwing a baseball - you couldn’t just accidentally get the body motion horribly wrong and throw it half the distance you intended to - that sequencing is gonna happen whatever you try to feel
