Over the course of 60 years I have been playing golf I never had teaching pros teach me your golfing techniques. You are a scientist and now my teacher. I’m 71 years old and can hit a driver 250 yards consistently! All your lessons are an eye opener and has improved my game tremendously and within 6 weeks taken my game into the low 80’s. Thank you!

As someone who has played scratch golf for 40 years, my chipping went south about 10-15 years ago. Hit like 70, chip like 90. Simplest of chips was a pressure packed situation. I did it the old way. Play it back and hit down on it. As the fairway cuts are so tight now, this quit working. Mike’s chipping videos have changed my golf life.

I have been coaching (mostly kids) for 15 years. I have always taught to setup to a chip like a putt and then do the Johnny Miller 'brush-brush.' But this video is fantastic in terms of explaining the shoulder relationship and "why" the putting setup normally works ok. . . because they normally stand with shoulders level on putts. I am adjusting my teaching method starting right now. Thanks!!!!

I've been pulling my hair out due to chipping, typically losing anywhere from 10 to 15 strokes per round from duffing and blading chip shots. Everyone harps on about keeping weight on the left hand side and then swinging it straight back and straight through. Sounds dead easy but nothing has helped for years. I may find something that works briefly but never lasts. I knew i was taking the club way inside but could not work out why or stop doing it. This video has been a revelation and has completely changed my chipping. Can't wait to try out on the course. I've been doing the exact thing that Mike talks about. Getting the weight on the left hand side by pushing my pelvis which was dropping my right shoulder without even realising. Now I can manage almost perfect contact every time. Thank you! Now golf will be fun again

This is exactly why my chips are inconsistent, some are OK when in the practice area but on the course and under pressure, poor technique, low trail shoulder and control of low point often spell disaster! I did a video of myself chipping last week and this revealed exactly what Mike describes - weight shift toward target with hip but upper body moving back and putting sternum behind ball. From that position the club will bottom out before the ball almost every time. This video is solid gold for people with chipping problems... Well done!!

Great chipping advice! Sometimes I forget to hover the club a little. Can one assume that the hovering the club head is true for the other clubs as well, increasing hover height as one gets closer to driver? The driver being the longest and fastest club, thereby lengthening the the arms most. Thanks!

A motion of equal importance (not mentioned in vid) is executing the entire move (start to finish) with YOUR SHOULDERS and PAUSE at the 'top' of your backswing for a second before rocking your shoulders in a pendulum motion for the downswing. Also, this entire mini-swing should feel very relaxing. If not, you're rushing your swing.
@MattSmith-kk4hp3 жыл бұрын
Would Mike be able to say if you should do the same thing with full iron shots as far as letting the club hover above the ground in order to let the momentum work through the ball?

I used to do this, and all was good.... and then I got away from it for some reason.... and then struggled with the odd skull or fat, ruining great scoring opportunities, or a great round. Recently came back to it and everything is better again. Holing shots around the green or scaring the hole again. It really is the ticket to consistency around the greens.

I always like Mike's tips. The unconscious "savior" idea perfectly describes the chip yips. I know, cuz I had em... bad! The idea of moving weight to the left is correct and doing so without dropping that right shoulder is also key. The one nit I might pick is the idea that with the right shoulder "down" and shoulders tilted, you are "bottoming out" early. That isn't exactly what is happening. The swing circle remains the swing circle, and the bottom of the swing is directly opposite the 'buttons' on the shirt. The "fats" come from the club returning to the "bottom of the circle" which is still some 2-4 inches in front of the ball AND 3 INCHES BELOW GROUND LEVEL. (It was said that he 'lowered the right shoulder 3 or 4 inches.) The ground 'gets in the way' of the club reaching for the bottom of the circle. This can be demonstrated using a face on camera and standing on the edge of a platform that is 4 to 6 inches high, and then following the clubhead's path relative the platform level. Dropping that right shoulder you see the clubhead passing through ground level at a point nearer to the right toe (behind what would be the ball), and reaching the 'bottom' of the circle well below ground level. With shoulders level and buttons and head slightly in front of the ball, the same camera work shows the clubhead reaching ground level very slightly behind the ball with the bottom of the circle slightly in front (as in front as the buttons on the players shirt might be). But the angle of attack is much more shallow, and any contact with 'ground level' is first bending blades of grass, not turf. Thanks for great work Mike and Brendan!

This is a fantastic explanation of how setup controls everything. I love the "measuring out" explanation. I try to tell people that they should take control of the clubhead by hovering instead of "giving it to the ground", but the habit of shoving the clubhead into the ground behind the ball at address dies hard.
@henrymonster99264 жыл бұрын
I went exclusively to the “use the bounce” mentality after a clinic and the past videos you have done with Monte. This is very similar and makes accessing the bounce much easier. I set up 50/50 and then think “55/45 and use the bounce” to chipping perfection😄. Great video.
