I am totally loving these Thin Lizzy marathons, especially all the deep cuts. Grateful thanks to both Nicks! Btw, Romeo and the Lonely Girl is about Gary Moore. Romeo is an anagram for Moore. Phil was often so clever with his lyrics like that.

Really enjoying watching and hearing someone getting into Thin Lizzy. It's a great journey you are on! The solo on 'Romeo...' is one of my all time favourites. I was in a Lizzy tribute band from 2008 until 2013. It was terrific learning all those songs and playing them, of course. 'Hollywood' was one of my favourites to sing as was 'waiting for an Alibi' ,Emerald and 'Johnny'. My god, the material Phil wrote was just unbeatable really. So much melody and harmony, all wrapped upmore often than not in hard rock. Great lyrics delivered with style and charisma. He was one of the best front men.....ever. There are a couple of new live videos of Lizzy I just saw on YT froma performance on the Midnight Special 1977, with GM deputising for Robbo. Very gritty and Phil at his best.

After Phil's death, Thin Lizzy carried on, but eventually morphed into a band named Black Star Riders. Their first albums, The Killer Instinct, All Hell Breaks Loose, and Heavy Fire are awesome. Scott Gorham left last year to pursue more Lizzy related projects.

Lynott's voice and the guitars harmonized to sound like bagpipes are iconic to Thin Lizzy. Many artists have imitated their guitar sound since, but Lizzy is the original. Lynott's statue in Dublin memorialized the band and it's iconic sound. Might try Fool's Gold and Emerald.

One of the greatest bands ever. I like how others besides me lump Thin Lizzy and UFO in the same category as bands that were soooo good and influenced so many but for one reason or another they were never huge as far as being household names however the ‘rockers’ back in the day certainly knew who those bands were. I was fortunate to see both bands in their prime.

You must listen to "massacre" by Lizzy (live and dangerous version) Iron maiden made a decent cover of the song. I think Maiden talked more about UFO as influence, but you can tell that Lizzy was the major influence of their sound. I think Smith and Harris loved Lizzy, and they made the song "different world" as a tribute to thin lizzy.

Thin Lizzy guitarists always get the limelight with Gary Moore, Brian Robertson and John Sykes, but I love Scott Gorham's playing, who has always supported Phil and the band since 1974. His playing is not as technical as his counterparts, but it is very melodic and melancholy and moves me.

Did you know on the Album Bad Reputation that Scott Gorman plays both guitar parts on some songs when you hear the harmonizing? And there are only Scott, Phil, and Brian Downey on the album cover. The other lead guitarist Brian Robertson left the band in the middle of making it. I can't remember why. Something like he got in a bar fight and hurt his hand? I think he's on 3 of the tracks?

Thin Lizzy's metal period is not my favourite era of the band, but the song, Angel of Death was very important. Even though the Renegade album was a commercial failure, Angel of Death did well on the heavy metal charts and it made Thin Lizzy sound relevant to those teenage NWOBHM fans who were discovering Iron Maiden and Saxon, as well as Gillan, Whitesnake and Motorhead.

If nobody else has suggested it, since you like deep cuts so much, try Thin Lizzy doing Sitamoia (it will blow you away!). Renegade came out in 1981x, at the peak of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. By the standards of Lizzy’s precious 4-5 albums it sold poorly, barely getting into the UK top 40 albums. I’ve never understood why. It’s a much better album than “Chinatown”, and “Hollywood” would’ve been a hit single for them if they’d released it in 1979-80. Renegade, Angel of Death, The Pressure will Blow and Leave This Town are all great tracks. Maybe there were too many new bands around like Maiden and Def Leppard for hard rock and metal fans in Europe, and they were a bit bored of Lizzy? 🥲
