These may not be your most popular videos, but they are doing me a world of good. I'm going to start a boat build later this year, and you've already taught me several things that I would have learned the hard way! Thank you for taking the time to do this series!

I am very happy with the videos, but I understand that they are more detailed than most casual KZbin viewers are seeking. It means a lot to me to know that folks like you find them helpful.

Nick, Thank you for the in depth stuff! I’ve finally started my first strip build and have to thank you and your videos for teaching how and how to fix. Definite confidence builder to approach glassing

Other than the first few episode assembling the plywood panels, almost all the process is the same as strip build, so I'm glad you are finding useful information in this series.

at 3:00 I love how the moiré from the camera is like "lines? I got all the lines on all the axes!"

Its kind of like seeing the lines of stones at Arlington cemetery, they are just about every direction you look, but it does help for cutting straight lines.

Enjoying watching the process.

It is also fun to do the process

I think the series is a great help for any person wanting to build a S&G boat. And as in your comments at 36:00 minutes, one should watch this series before starting the boat...well in the dead of winter when you have nothing to do (or summer for that matter) we builders would be chomping at the bit if you made a DVD for this build.. Yea I know I mentioned it before...squeaky hinge gets the oil. Great job as always.

What do you see as the benefit to a DVD vs these videos as they are for free on KZbin?
@scottgorman71664 ай бұрын
@@NickSchade I wouldn't have to search for the episodes. I can use it in my shop on a player and not mess up my computer. I realize it would take you a lot of time and effort....just a idea. Nick at CLC the sketch kit is available and if I get the carbon fiber one (skeg) from you there is just miminal fitting....correct? I don't have to glue up any parts on the skeg?
@scottgorman71664 ай бұрын
That was skeg kit....not sketch....damn auto correct!

I see an advantage, making a small batch, and using a wide bottomed pot, as compared to a narrow tall cup. It would seem to give you a longer pot life of the resin. Bill is doing great ! Nice work guys !
@NickSchade5 ай бұрын
With my working style, I would spill a lot more with a wide bottomed pot. I just go with small batches and work to get the epoxy out of the cup quickly.

Yes, we like the in depth stuff. It has been quite a while since I built S&G, SOF is so much faster and easier, but I have learned a lot from this channel, and the old Kayak Forum. There is at least one more S&G in my future.
@weatheranddarkness5 ай бұрын
SOF? Skin on form? Isn't S&G supposed to be faster? Or just cheaper since you use ply?
@NickSchade5 ай бұрын
SOF definitely is faster, but for hard, everyday use, I find hard-shell kayaks to be more convenient.

...no need to do the tapping unless you really enjoy it. That made milk come out of my nose (stolen line from Steve Martin). Bill is really getting the touch for the build. His confidence level is really improving. Love the detailed build series. Will be ordering the plans for Night Heron early this summer once I am finished with the landscaping in the backyard for the wife. Hope there will be more videos on that plan. Thanks for sharing.

If you have to wait until all the other projects are done, you might never get around to it.

@NickSchade have you ever tried laying some quartz over the wet epoxy to increase the roughness in the areas most exposed to hitting the bank? In theory, increasing the grip should translate into a shorter breaking distance, theefor less wear and more lifespan of the impact area. I know, it will also affect the speed by creating drag, but given the added benefit, I think it could work.
@NickSchade5 ай бұрын
One of the biggest sources of drag is roughness on the surface. I don't know that quartz would effect the wear much, we already have a layer of glass which is pretty hard.
