Lots going on at Nick's Garage. Dream cars are being cure of what ever sickness they came in with. Mopars are cool, but what the heck is a Caddy engine doing on the dyno? "Get'it'yon'out'a'here!" Lots of chit-chat of cars, B.B.Q. car meet, appreciations and thank you's. Got'ta'love'it! I wish you could twin turbo charge the slant straight 6 in the 1970 Charger. That would be a dream!

The slant six design issue is the intake and exhaust are on the same side. It makes the engine simple however it has very much less power / airflow configured like that

My 1971 Dodge Charger 440 had the copper color with a white vinyl roof and the ram air scope that was raised from inside. Posi in the back with a heavy duty Torque Flight automatic transmission. It could do 118 in second and I had it up to 148 mph in Indiana on 30:44 route 65 racing a Ford Torino with a 429 back in 1971. We squared off at 2am in the morning. Me in the left lane and him in the right lane both doing about 75 mph, I hit the ram air switch and we were off to the races. I left him in the dust in no time and let off at 148. The Speedo topped out at 160 and I still had pedal left but that was enough for me. He passed by when I reached Chicago, waved and as he cruised by. Very fast once it got rolling, but the 340, and 390’s were very fast off of the line in those days. In fact, I had some gal in a Lincoln with a big block eat my lunch one day. To check if the thermostat has opened please don't follow this advice 1:01:26 which is wrong!! OOPS. The correct way to verify when the thermostat has opened is to feel the upper radiator hose and keep your hands away from the fan. By checking the upper radiator hoses' temperature you'll also decipher if the thermostat is stuck open which you won't know by feeling the hot air coming off the radiator.
@dogdoc1 Жыл бұрын
How should the hose feel 🤔
@lkanavaros9576 Жыл бұрын
@@dogdoc1 The top rad hose will SUDDENLY get HOT as soon as the thermostat opens. If after a few minutes warm up the top hose doesn't suddenly get hot, then the thermostat may be stuck open; continue diagnosing. To stick your hand inside the engine compartment as was shown 1:01:26 is done when verifying if an electric fan has actually turned on and it certainly doesn't apply in this case.

Thanks Nick. I am sooooo anxious to be a part of that test drive. You know, if you look at the weight of a GTX and the weight of the J -- they are fairly close. Seems that as in all other aspects of todays working world - only the old guys have the passion.
