Remember when Steven and the Gems went on adventures and fought monsters and shit? And they slowly revealed more and more about the Gems and the lore behind them in a satisfying way? Now it's just boring townie episodes with an arc of lore episodes thrown in at the last minute, it's almost like the show goes like "oh yeah we have a progressing plot, we should address that". It feels so jumbled.

But the show evolved PAST that and exposed a ton of lore and interesting plots involving the backstory, homeworld and the gems themselves which made it interesting and worth watching but now it's all about the townsfolk and what they're doing. That's not interesting and nobody cares. Also screw you, I like monster of the week shows.

I like the show, but really think a big problem is the Crewniverse isn't doing enough world-building anymore. The earlier seasons were full of atmospheric and sometimes eerie ancient ruins, and the lore-heavy promise of an ancient alien civilization with thousands of years of history...and then the show kinda stopped getting into its own lore. Hell, Steven finally got to visit homeworld, and he learned PRACTICALLY NOTHING about it since he spent almost all his time imprisoned or hiding underground.

I kinda lost interest in the show as well. One of the reasons why is that I feel like the show is inconsistent when it comes to if it wants to focus on filler or the continuing Homeworld storyline. Rocknaldo? To be fair, the hype towards this episode was CN's fault, since many were expecting a new Gem to appear. But disregarding that, it was a pointless episode. Another reason, which might as well be my main issue, is that the show goes through a lot-A LOT-of hiatuses. And eventually, it becomes fatiguing after a while. Not sure why CN doesn't stick to their 'New episode every Thursday' thing anymore. It's still a good show (I was a massive fan during its first few years), but I feel like this show/this coming season needs closure, sooner and later.

Really everything is CN's fault. Rocknaldo was a bad episode but every show will have at least one bad episode it shouldn't turn you off. And anyways, the filler might be important later on (not going to spoil what happens in the start of season 5, but it brings a filler character into importance.)

I have one major reason why i stopped watching it. It was going nowhere. Every season they make it seem like shit is about to hit the fan and the current paradigm is about to get rocked, but the next season everyone just goes back to doing their normal everyday stuff. There is no tension, no urgency to get the plot movie. They make it sound like a gem war might be coming but never really follow through. It feels like the show is perpetually stuck in the intro arc of an anime. There could be so many ways of dealing with this. - cause some permanent damage to beach city / the sanctuary - have them actually start an adventure and the season follows them on their journey - give them some reason to fully abandon their current home for the length of a season(or even permanently ) Good adventure/comedy is all about having the protagonists constantly visiting new places and solving conflicts in creative ways. The writers seem to want to do this. but always feel the need to come back to boring beach city. They like to take themes and make nods to anime, so i think maybe they should take a cue from anime stories. A typical adventure anime for story arc -> buffer episodes -> story arc -> buffer episodes etc. With the buffer episodes being maybe 2-3 between before a new arc starts. SU seems to be following this but in the reverse, with buffer episodes making up a majority of the season and only a few that actually develop the plot. Ultimately making it seem like nothing is happening in your story.

the show itself isn't getting worse, it's the scheduling thats killing it. i mean i love steven universe, i think it's the single best cartoon to come out in recent years right next to rick and morty and adventure time, but even i don't feel that much excitement when watching a new episode. the reason is i cant afford to get invested in the show anymore, the several month long hiatus's are killing the vibe of the show for me. i mean i could put up with only a few new episodes every few months but the fact that i don't see reruns of previous episodes means by the time a new episode comes out, i've already forgotten a good bit of what happened and i no longer have the same feelings i had at the time i originally watched. the 4 episode wanted special that came out a few months ago, i thought each episode was amazing and completely opened a whole new world to the series but since then i haven't seen any of those episodes on the air even once. of course the show feels like it's getting worse, because the scheduling is killing the momentum of the series, people probably think the shows getting worse because unlike yourself they didn't watch the entire season back to back like that. they only got a few episodes at a time and in most of those episodes nothing really happens in season 4. it wasn't until the zoo that the story started progressing again and by that time there had already been a very long hiatus for the show again. so people only got the first few episodes of season 4 then they picked back up with the harvest special then they got the zoo. it's like we get all this build up for new episodes only for nothing really important to happen and then we're back on break. the show is "dying" because cartoon network is more concerned about how many episodes of toddler titans they can air a week then they are about supporting one of their only good shows they have left.

I think Mindful Education is very... pretty, but feels more like a script built around a song Sugar wrote after reading a couple of articles on mindfulness than anything interesting or productive story-wise. I think a lot of the reason I've lost enthusiasm for the show, on top of its scheduling (which isn't its fault) and pacing (which is its fault), is that the Crewniverse seems more interested in drawing and making cool shit inspired by the story than actually making the story. Steven Universe is like a fanwork of itself.

Season 4 in a nutshell for me: Solid Stevenbombs but the rest of the episodes are a mixed bag. There are some great regular episodes like Last One Out Of Beach City but then there's pretty bad episodes like Onion Gang(which was pretty pointless imo). I see a lot of people hating "Townie episodes" (AKA the type of episodes which focus less on the Gems and their ongoing storyline but to flesh out more of the citizens of the town) but even at season 1 it was clear these episodes were always the norm while the plot-related ones where always fewer. why the sudden hate now and not back then? I believe it is due to the scheduling I mentioned before: People are more willing to digest filler/townie/whatever episodes easier if there was a well-paced schedule, since we know if the plot is not moving, we can be assured a new ep may or may not next week. but with the bomb format we end up having huge gaps, which do nothing but build anger and hype. So when we have to wait over months of nothing only for the few episodes we get being simple filler and then back to the wait its simply INFURIATING. Plus. The show has some serious issues when it comes to portraying its characters. If they threaten to hurt Steven, they are a villain. If they arent, oh no they are just misunderstood and need help. Plus he is NEVER WRONG. Lapis for perfect example, can be summed up as, 'emo teenage girl, who does not want to do anything.' Plus she is a bitch half the time and is a far cry from the mysterious almost otherworldly gem we saw in her first episode. She really started going downhill after she fused with jasper if you ask me. honestly, though, SU has a lot of newer flaws rearing their heads lately: - steven is presented as the epitome of morality-- everything he thinks is automatically right in that regard and anyone who disagrees is supposed to be unlikable - show has no idea if it's serialized or episodic, so it's constantly dropping plot threads that seem very time-sensitive for unrealistic periods of time - flanderizing characters and removing them COMPLETELY from their peak presentation and original concept (e.g. garnet, peridot, lapis)

The "problem" with season 4 is the show is taking time to develop it's human characters. Like you said, from this point the show is going to transition to being more space centred, so season 4 was them taking a last chance to really develop these characters. If you go into season 4 with this in mind, you will most likely have a great time with it. But even then, it seems like no one will be happy until this show stops developing those pesky characters and is nothing but plot with no breaks (who cares about the fact the plot is nothing but character decisions/consequences of their actions and the creator wanted a character driven show). There's a theory going around that Onion gang is actually foreshadowing to the Off colours in season 5 and I would not put it past these writers.

I don't think the argument the humans aren't important to the story is valid at this point. Case in point, Lars. And in terms of human characters being disliked, a lot of people would disagree. Sadie, the cool kids, Vadalia, Jamie, Onion (in his more recent appearances, the pizza family and Petey. Most of these characters were loved by fans from the start. And the humans were always essential to the plot and viewing experience. They are why the gems continue to protect the earth, they develop Steven's human side and remind the viewers why it's important to save the Earth. And ever since the season 4 finale, humans just had a huge impact on the main plot. Because of them, Steven gave himself up and went to homeworld where he finally met the diamonds and discovered Rose might not have actually shattered pink diamond. Lars became crucial to the story in less than 2 episodes and from that season 5 trailer, it's only a matter of time before Sadie gets roped in as well. Everyone seems to forgot humans are immune to a lot of gem technology, giving them some advantage if they are apart of the final battle of the series. Just imagine Steven and the crystal gems fighting off the homeworld army from the beach. The temple is destroyed and everyone else is hiding. Lars steps up and gives a rallying speech about how they need to defend their home and they all grab weapons and charge into battle. Imagine that scene from Adventure Time's stakes when all the kingdoms come to help Finn, Jake and Bubblegum. Except they'd actually do something useful. We've seen Sadie take down a gem before so it is a very big possibility. These humans will be involved in the main gem story by the end and everyone is going to stop complaining about filler. Even though everyone gets that term wrong. Filler describes when an anime adapted from a manga includes stuff not in the manga (because doing a chapter per episode won't last very long).

My opinions on each Season Season 1 : Great/Amazing - An amazing start and tied favorite Season along with two. Developed its story and characters fantastically well Season 2 : Amazing - The character development and Peridot redemption was really nice with a good ark to boot. My favorite Season along with 1. Season 3 : Really Good/Great - It was a good season with some of my favorite episodes, but it felt a bit slow in the middle because they finished off the Cluster and Malachite arks way too quickly at the same time in the season premiere. It managed to pick the story back up with Jasper and Pink Diamond towards the end Season 4 - Okay/Pretty Good - A really mixed bag. A handful of episodes are really good, mainly the Bombs and Mindful Education. The rest of the episodes unfortunately range from okay to bad. The season finale really made up the season for me Season 5 - We only have a few episodes that seem really promising and I'm really excited for what comes next. I have my hopes up. Please just no more overbearing filler unless I don't think it'll ever be as good as the first two seasons

I love Steven Universe, but I'm beyond sick of getting cock teased. I admit I don't like SU as much as I did before, I literally can only watch plot forwarding episodes now, I can't stomach all the filler. After the galactic middle finger that was Gemcation, I'm not gunna watch until something relevant happens...See you in 100 years. Side note: Gravity Falls: 2 seasons Star VS Evil: 3 seasons (Getting damn good too.) Steven Universe: 5 seasons: Still don't know the backstory of major characters.

As a whole, I think season 4 (aside from onion gang) is still as good as anything else we've gotten from the series. At its worst, it's still at least as good as the best of season 1A. Honestly I've never felt there was any decline in quality. People are just getting impatient due to CN's pacing. The moment the show airs a few Beach City episodes in a row you start seeing people complaining the shows getting bad even though it's not out of ordinary for the show to have episodes like those. My perception of a lot of season 4 was that it was the calm before the storm, and I stil believe that is correct seeing how season 4 ended.

One of the things that consistently grind my gears about this show, is how Lapis development keeps getting swept under the rug. Nothing has been resolved with her. The crew just forgot about her, and only brings her out when it's convenient, and when they need to pander to Lapis/peridot shippers.

I know that Steven Universe isn't flawless, but at the same time, during season four, I felt like a lot of the complaints from fans were just nitpicks or even personal jabs at Sugar and the Crew. I personally feel that after the episode _Onion Gang_ aired, a lot of fans were just looking for reasons for the show to be bad. I got so tired of seeing comments like: "Oh well _Gem Harvest_ was bad because Lapis wasn't tall enough" or "I hated the episode _Rocknaldo_ . It had a weak plot, so that's clearly proof that the Crew is just lazy". It was just a frustrating period of fans either being impatient, blaming the Crew, or holding a magnifying glass over every error they could find. For example: If two not so great episodes aired back to back, there would be a flood of comments coming in about how the Crew were shitty writers, and how the show is garbage and had no redeeming qualities. They seemed to have the mindset that SU could not be flawed, and good at the same time. And what made it more frustrating is that if anyone dared to defend the show (even if they admitted that it has flaws) they were called out for being Sugar's ass kissers, or whiners who couldn't admit that SU has flaws. I'm just glad that the Zoo Arc and the Wanted Arc have sort of broken that spell.

Lucas Martinez Same here. I did feel like an episode such as _Tiger Philanthropist_ could have felt better if it were maybe aired sometime earlier in the series. And _Rocknaldo's_ and _Onion Gang's_ worst crime was being boring and slightly annoying. But other than that, there wasn't really an episode that felt out of place. So many fans were just mad that it wasn't constant gem battles and Homeworld lore, even though most of the show as we know it, was built off of the emotional, world building moments, rather than the action and fighting ones.

Elisa Castro I mostly agree with this save for the "lame humans bit" the townies are some of my favorite characters when utilized well, I think they get alot of flak because when they are utilized poorly it's just another townie episode detracting from the main gem plot. For example 'Lars and the cool kids' or 'sadie's songs are both great episodes in my opinion. My problem recently has been poor utilization of all characters especially lapis/peridot and the barn in general, hopefully after raising the barn we will get more fleshed out character for those two cause I feel like every episode with them has just been spinning wheels after like meepmorp, they haven't really done or contributed anything of worth in a while, kinda just feels like they are there to be fanservicey cause people like them "hey we don't have anything to do with these characters so here they are being goofy for the umpteenth time"

One of the biggest problems Season 4 has is too many pointless Slice of Life episodes. I mean we're watching a show whos original main selling point were interesting Gem battles. Farhaan Ali I love Steven universe but I hate season two and four. The animation changed to worse after season one but season three has a good animation just like season one. Season four is slow. Mindful education should be the first episode in S4 because Steven deals what happened in S3 just like full disclosure. There's nothing special about season four and the only thing we learned from the season is aquamarine and topaz and holly blue agate exist on the show and yellow & blue diamond personalities. The only two episodes that I liked were mindful education and three gems and a baby. The human episodes in season 3 is 100% better than season 4. The only problem with the zoo arc was about Steven being annoying with pink diamond shattering and rose quartz being a murder. And this wasn't the only time Steven was being annoying like that, in "I am my mom" Steven left his family in order to know about his own "magical gem destiny". I mean this's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Also room for ruby was so bad and fanfic episode. It was bullshit, lapis could make a water hand and catch the ship but she was laughing instead. What I hate of season 4 was the writing. The writers could make better arcs, better story and better animation just like season one & three (even Season 2 was better than 4, tho I hate season 2 lol). And this is why I love Steven universe except season four.

Steven Universe was particularly affected in season 4 with Hardening of the Arteries Syndrome, something that has been a problem since the end of season 1A and the completion of the major world building of this series. This was made worse by individual Crewniverse members either having a vision different from Rebecca Sugar's, or just plain becoming jaded. To me, off-model work is less a problem than an indication of creative chaos; and far more troubling to me is the tendency to go "off-model" with personalities of the characters themselves (Steven's whininess in Lion 4, Garnet's abdication of responsibility, turning Rocknaldo into an exercise in fandom shade-casting, and so on). Townie eps like Future Boy Zoltron, Onion Gang and Rocknaldo would have been substandard in season one; with all that's hanging over Steven and his world in season four they seem surreal and almost insulting. I hope that Rebecca Sugar has come to realize the necessity of keeper a firmer hand on creative production, so that season five will redeem the previous season.

I don't really understand this. I look at the show more like one long story, and the little slice of life episodes can be interesting or not, but there were always good and bad episodes of that type since the show started. The main storyline is more interesting than ever, IMO, but the slice of life "filler" eps are never going away. I feel like people are only saying the show is going downhill because the main storyline is getting more and more exciting, and they're frustrated that we still get filler episodes that take away from it.

Here's how Ive always seen Steven Universe as a whole. Each season has a specific theme to it. Season 1 was Steven getting to learn about his gem heritage and learning how to use his shield. He didn't want to stay on the sidelines and finally ve acknowledged as the gem he is. Season 2: Steven and The Gems finally confront their 1st real enemies and must protect Rose's legacy. Season 3: Steven is developing his powers well and he's trying to understand why his enemies would threaten the Earth. He understands that though he helped Peridot turn a new leaf, not everyone can be helped ie Jasper. Season 4 was slower paced because it dealt with Steven's emotional side and we finally delve into his inner struggles. (Season 4 was the very 1st season we see inside Steven's mind and see his internal struggle of what his purpose is and what kind of person he thinks Rose was. The past 3 seasons focused on the gem's problems but this season was all for Steven.) It was developing the humans' likable traits. Steven, Lars, & Connie.

I still find Jailbreak as the pinnacle of the series: an epic song, an amazing gem vs gem, the surprising Garnet's true identity, Peridot was still menacing, the Lapis's conflict, and the ending was the shit. Sure, now we have stuff like Stevonnie with both sword and shield, as well as an okay Lapis and even more details about the diamonds and the rebelion war, but characters like Peridot and Garnet have fallen to simply appeal the fans, and they've thrown away most action and adventure scenes to include more Beach City stuff. Sure, it's great to have more developement for secondary and background characters (in fact, it's really great and more cartoons should do that), but they have a damn slow pacing, and many other interesting and important things have disappeared (why is it taking so long for Steven and Connie to actually be together? It should have happened a while ago). However, the new season promises a lot, and some plot and non-plot episodes have been both great and enjoyable, so I think the only real problem with the show is the weird pacing and how some characters look kinda flanderized now. Besides that, I think the show can still offer a lot of great things.

Im so glad that it exists However i also have a few friends who have lost the interest, complaining that the huge hiatuses between episodes kill the awesomeness of the show. I really miss the earlier episodes where the Gems went on adventures to temples, mountains, valleys and other unique locations. The rare time they go on an adventure nowadays, it's usually in space. Once you've seen one space adventure in SU, you've seen them all... The quality of the show itself hasn't really swayed, it's the pacing. Following the biggest moments with more laid back ones really kills tension and intrigue for me. I feel like the shows trying to have its cake and eat it too, with having classic animated Sitcom-style world building in Beach City and more fantastical episodes. The earlier episodes were so great because these blended together so well, but now they feel so disjointed and separate. Good video though. I was expecting either extreme negativity or thinking the show can do no wrong. I still enjoy the show, but both extremes of the fanbase annoy me

I started watching this show very recently. November 2016 to be exact, and I may have picked it up at a good time? I was regularly watching episodes on Hulu and the new episodes as they came out, and I just finished watching all of the first 3 seasons as the whole Wanted special got underway. There were a few bad episodes here and there but I'm honestly really hyped for season 5! Maybe it's a good thing that I started watching at a point where I could watch every episode when I wanted without always having to wait.

I can understand points made to an extent, I don’t feel like it’s got worse at all, I feel it’s got better. The first season was good but didn’t have a lot of lore or reason, it was just fighting another monster every single episode, and I know it’s because the lore was just picking up but I thought it seemed kind of random and am happy I watched through it and advanced to where the show gets better. I also think these extremely critically examining looks at things are a little too much, like the animation differences on here comes a thought is.. too much, who notices that kind of stuff?? Attack? Why would I attack someone? If someone has valid reasons as to why Steven universe is a good show, I would probably agree. I love Steven universe too. I only criticize it because of my love for it. You want reasons? I can give you a few examples(if I listed all of them I would be here all day.) -The powers are extremely inconsistent. The characters have powers that they can use but don't use them in scenarios where they can be helpful(Pearl only uses her holo pearls for training, when they're chasing Peridot Amethyst could have shape-shifted, Garnet could have used those rocket gauntlets and Pearl could have shot at her). I feel like the writers aren't keeping track of them. -There is no consistency in character design. Look at their heights. There is no consistency in height or proportion. This was not a stylistic choice. That's like saying that drawing characters with bad anatomy is okay because it's a stylistic choice. -The writing is poor due to the inconsistency(If Peridot can build a giant drill, why can't she build herself new limb enhancers? Also, Lapis was right next to an ocean when jasper captured her. why couldn't she just punch her with her water magic like she did in several episodes after that?)The Lars and Sadie-centric episodes all show the same things. Lars needs to be himself and Sadie needs to be more honest with her emotions. -The cluster arc was rushed and pointless. They never mention the cluster again after that episode where it's bubbled. They also never mention what they are going to do with it after the cluster emerges. -The composition is far less than stellar. This is most prominent with the floaty and bland fight scenes. I feel like the fourth season on is way better than the first season. Like before the Peridot/diamond ark started, the episodes were just development of Steven and how he is a Crystal Gem. After Lapis is freed and Peridot is seen, the show gained something new that worked until the end of the Diamond Days series.

The show is extremely inconsistent in both character models and character feats/powers. The other thing I found about SU is it takes a long time for anything to get done in SU. I personally am having a tough time ploughing through this season since it really shows some of the series' more notable flaws like the dull secondary characters and the poorly done filler (yes, people; filler can be done right). Obviously, majority does not mean entirety; there's still a number of standalone episodes that were a joy to sit through (Mindful Education, Gem Harvest, etc.), but as a whole, it's kinda hard for me to sit through this season. The whole show: bad and only liked by kids (mostly girls who think they understand politics) aged 12-17. The biggest, most toxic fan base for a TV show seen in the last 10 years. The concept is interesting, but has a lot of holes that, no matter what, can never be filled. A show about just the characters in Beach City would be far more interesting at this point. Why so much filler and going off task? Because they don't know how to fill those holds at all so they're procrastinating and milking money from those gullible, young fans. Adventure Time and OK K.O. (two shows with similar teams to Steven Universe) is far superior.

I didn't really like the first and second season of adventure time. I stopped watching it because I didn't really like it that much. Sure there were some nice episodes but idk how I feel about the rest. But my friends said that season 4-7 is good so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I'm still deciding if I should continue watching it tbh lol.

My nigga studio Trigger is what saved that episode. If you pay attention to it steven is FULL of shot-reverse-shot conversations and scenes and then look at Mindful education its so much better.
