Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-Man is shared with Sony, and idk which fucker wanted to stop the show. I liked how the show was, Characters had different impressions of their face. They had story development and character. Peter gets debt and guilt, while this one gets to roam around like it’s nothing. We were left on a cliffhanger, and I mean a big one.

My biggest problem with this cartoon is the non-stop talking. The characters just won't shut up. Kids are not stupid, they can understand what's happening on the screen without the characters talking. There's a thing called visual storytelling, which this show does not get.

Partly. Disney receives a lot of the blame for the cancellation of Spectacular Spider-Man however Sony was also a major force behind its cancellation. So as you may know in 2009 Disney bought Marvel, which at the time was not in full control of all its assets with the film and tv rights for Spider-Man over at Sony and the rights to X-Men and the Fantastic 4 at Fox. With this acquisition Disney was also able to acquire either the film rights or the tv rights for Spider-Man. Sony chose to give up the tv rights because they figured movies would be more successful, they figured wrong. Anyway Disney then had the tv rights to the characters but not the show and Sony vice versa so neither of them could continue making Spectacular Spider-Man. Jump ahead to 2016, Sony had a failing movie franchise, Disney had a failing tv series, the obvious thing to do would be to do a trade off, in this case the obvious path was not the one they chose, Im not entirely sure of the specifics of the deal but due to past deals with Fox and other companies it seems likely to me that if Sony had proposed a trade Disney would have agreed however Sony did not and so Disney now has movie and tv rights and Sony has solo movie rights for supporting characters and still neither of them can make Spectacular Spider-Man.

yes your point stands, but it's still sad how a well established character like Spider-Man who is garunteed to be watched by many didn't even get enough money put in to get good animation. The original Ben 10 was a risk, no one knew the character but they still found it worthwhile to put money into its animation. If they knew their writing was mediocre they could have atleast pumped up the look of the show. Ultimate spider man did this and it kept it going for quite a while.

Not really. Everything the people above said is true true. The artstyle looks like it's trying to be a shitty anime and a classic cartoon, the story is rushed and has nothing engaging about it, the characters look cheaply made and poorly written/designed (seriously Doc Ock and Rhino look like the works of fanfics), Spider-Man' s quips aren't clever or original and not to mention that he never stops talking even in supposedly serious situations, animation is stiff and lackluster and so on and so on.

I don't know if you realise this but Ned wasn't exactly a character that needed risks to be taken on all he needed to be was a good supporting character which he is. Now Miles Morales in the comics doesn't get off for not having risks taken on him because he's an important character seeing as he's the 2nd Spider-Man it's super important that the take risks on him to differentiate him from the original Spider-Man but since he's the main character of Into the Spider-Verse and he made a great appearance in Spider-Man Ps4 it's great to see that something is being done with his character now.

PrexorAMVs Spider-Man is one of the darkest characters in comics. Seriously. Darker than Batman. The difference is that he doesn't wear this on his sleeve. He's funny and has a light tone and color palette but virtually every important Spidey story revolves around death. His mom dies his dad dies his uncle dies his girlfriend dies his aunt dies his best friend dies his wife dies his BABY dies (Marvel has since retconned half of this but you get the idea). He's pathologically guilty and makes constant mistakes. Plus look at his biggest storylines like Kraven's Last Hunt, Sin Eater Saga, the Kid Who Collects Spider-Man, BLUE, Death of the Stacys, etc. They're dark. Sorry for the rant I was bored waiting for my bus XD

Several things bother me: 1) Peter's Spider heroics interact way too much with his school life (almost every episode). SSM only had this happen 2 or 3 times. 2) The pro-STEM stuff really feels force since everything (crimes, motives, origins, and powers) all revolve around it. 3) None of the characters feel real since they're what the story needs them to be. Clash and Shocker are friends but must fight? So be it!

@@dannygoblin5579 For the first, Peter's classmates and friends interfere so much in his crime fighting that it puts way too much on them but also makes Spidey look really inept that he constantly needs help form civilians. For the second, it really makes every episode feel same'y since everything and everyone revolves around STEM stuff. The villains (big time and henchmen), heroes, everything want some new tech. It really cuts down on the variety in the episodes since they really come off like a mad-lib but just with different placeholders in the blanks. I heard that most of these issues are fixed in season three but I stopped watching halfway in season two.

@@wdcain1 I agree with this take. Honestly, the only time I'm fine with civilian helping Spiderman is in Sam Raimi's Spiderman 1 and 2. In 1, you have the people of New York throw everything at Green Goblin to help Spiderman. In 2, they play much smaller role of carrying Peter into the train and stand up for him. It's these neat little details that prove Spiderman are important to the people of New York. Sam Raimi's triology does have its own problems. But they are outweighted by the "spectacular" details like these :D

I think the one leading difference in this show is the heavy focus on science. Personally, I enjoyed how Peter used the scientific method to understand his powers, but the use of it and the entire science element in this show is too in your face. I think in the first episode they said that "science is the new currency?" What the hell does that even mean? Also, what's the point of making Peter a scientist when everyone else is too? And Miles already? Just... no.

The biggest issue with the last two incarnations of Spider-Man is that Spider-Man NEVER shuts up. Like...NEVER. The dialogue of other character might be 1% of the overall contribution to the show. The VA for Spidey's dialogue might be 60% by itself. Rarely are there scenes going on in other places where Spider-Man is not present.

When you think about it, Ned’s character was kind of re-purposed in the MCU, he’s basically a cross between Ganke Lee from the Ultimate Comics, along with Ned Leeds (pretty sure in name only and both had a companionship with Peter) from the original Amazing Spider-Man comics, introduced in issue 18. The only huge difference between this iteration of the character now is whether or not they’re going to implement Rodrick Kingsley within the MCU and have Ned be manipulated/brainwashed by him in order to become the hobgoblin. Or they might go a completely different direction than my claim. I just want Neds character to have some type of pay off, rather than just be Peters hanger-on lml

school jobs when was the last time you saw either show? Spectacular's writing was much better. Every single character including the villains of the week was well thought out and three dimensional. There was a sympathetic side to nearly every character. The voice acting was great with loads of distinct and fun voices I could pick out without seeing them. The individual storylines NAILED the constant struggle of Peter balancing heroics and his personal life. All of the Peter storylines and Spidey storylines intertwine and interweave in interesting ways, there are no background throwaway characters (looking at you Hobbie), and Peter Parker himself is perfect. He is voiced and written basically flawlessly. His humor is genuinely funny, his inner struggles are well told in the inner monologues, he actually looks like a kid, etc. This is becoming long. My problems with the 90s show are the animation was very choppy, Peter Parker is basically a bodybuilder whose personal life rarely came into conflict with his superhero one (this is the crux of the character) and the show spent most of its time with him in-costume. Most villains were simple two dimensional criminals with no real backstory. Altogether the writing and tone was just much cheesier. Spectacular was occasionally cheesy but in a self-aware kinda way. The surprising nuance of its cast and their problems kept things from delving into cliche territory. TL;DR Spectacular is definitely better. I recently rewatched both shows and the 90s one from my childhood doesn't hold up super well as anything other than a light ACTION cartoon. However Spectacular is still a great SPIDER-MAN cartoon.

They're both good, but I can see areas in both where the other is just better. On the one hand, 90's Spider-Man had little direct actual fighting in it. In fact, funny enough, Spider-Man never actually punched anyone other than in one episode where he punched into a portal created by the villain the Spot, and said villain flew out of another portal. They purposefully never showed a punch connect onscreen. On the contrary, Spectacular's action was more involved, smoother, generally better. On the other hand, I did like seeing an adult Peter Parker in the 90's series before every Spider-Man show stuck solely with teenage Spidey. And the character drama is more impactful for it. DuckTales with the 10th doctor as Scrooge McDuck is great! My main gripe in this besides art/animation is that so many characters are as smart as Peter! MJ, Gwen, Anya, Miles, Harry, Harry's dad...Peter is not unique if he's only one of many in this series that can invent all sorts of tech and solve all these tech problems Tony Stark in this series is such a smart ass, acting similar to the MCU Stark, and it's kinda nice to see not everyone in superhero shows should be "super" 24/7, that they can be human, and forget Peter's name and sign a different one when Peter gets Stark's autograph.

Also the Ned point doesn't make total sense because Ned is an established character who've they changed in Homecoming. Zanewasnthere when you don't read any comics, why would you claim to have an objective viewpoint on an adaptation? I mean if he were to judge over all character development or the animation that's fair game but saying that the uncle Ben death scene was only ripped from a movie is a blatant lie and a simple google check would have cleared it up
