6:20 That's because in the Mega Drive version you have to put the first mobile platform while you are still on the stairs, not on top of them, so you have to use 4 platformas and not 3. I always thought that was the challenge of that section.
@RetroBreak3 жыл бұрын
noooo why didn't I think of that! It took me like 15 attempts, but I did make it in the end just using three of them! Think the hit box is smaller on the megadrive game which makes the platforming more awkward!

Yup! I was going to tell him that too! I played MM: TWW on the Sega Mega Drive back when I was 4, because I was extremely lucky to have my dad purchase the console AND the game together 😅 my first video game ever was basically it.. and it's dear to me, so I know this section by heart lol

Great video! It's definitely worth slogging through subpar versions the first three games for Wily Tower. It's amazing though how the NTSC/PAL slowdown issue really makes the games feel extremely downtempo and low energy. I played this on the Genesis Mini a couple years back and I'm fairly certain it ran at regular speed.
@RetroBreak3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah the Wily Tower was worth effort to get to! Really wish they'd made a full unique game like that though, and yeah... 50hz is painful. Yeah it plays in 60 on the mini, but I really wanted to save my first play through for a physical version on the actual console.

Thanks for the review. We did get the Sega Channel here in the U.K. just only in certain areas. I live in the North West but my cable company at the time didn’t have it (not sure if we could have afforded it tho anyway) but in Liverpool their cable company did have it. They got either Andi Peters or Andy Crane for the launch I can’t remember who I saw on the pictures now been awhile.

Thanks for doing a review! I missed out on this but as someone with a Mega Drive as well it would have been disappointing to see that the game didn’t perform as well on 50z. It’s awesome that fans have already sorted this but annoying that those with flash carts would have the better experience over original buyers.

it seems the patch is for the EU rom not the recently release US rom from the genesis mini is that correct?

I have ordered this anyway and will play it on my Mega SG but I do have original modded hardware tho. The SG easier as I’ve no CRT. The retrotink 5X is something I’m going to get to replace the OSSC.

I wonder if the North American release through Limited Run Games will have the same %16 slowdown? I assume so, which would really be a huge let down. I would have thought that issue would have been resolved. Other than that, everything else about this release looks fantastic! Great review!
@RetroBreak3 жыл бұрын
I presume because both companies are US based it would be the same, such a shame though, I know it's possible for PAL releases to be optimised, but I guess it was mainly marketed to an American audience as that's the only region that never got a physical version, thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the video :)
@eskimomonkey23 жыл бұрын
@@RetroBreak I watched another video where the Retro-bit release ran at regular speed, which makes sense since it would be on a ntsc console, which is what I have. Would that make sense? I am not well versed in the differences in PAL vs NTSC Consoles

That bit of history with Mega Man 1&2 being 50Hz but Mega Man 3 being PAL optimized to match the NTSC speed was interesting as heck. You don't normally hear Mega Man history from the UK side of things. I would have gotten this but I already have it on the Sega Mega Drive Mini. Not only does that have 60Hz, it also fixes some of the issues like slowdown during the boss fights that were present in the original. So I'm legit curious as to how this rerelease compares to the one that SEGA put out years ago. Good review though mate, it was a fun watch. I like seeing the contents, and most of all, you enjoying yourself. I may just pick this up, if and when Retro Bit releases this again for retail. Haha.

I have a Sega Mega Drive that's modded with 50/60hz switch. I run all my PAL games in 60hz with no problems. I recommend you to so that aswell. It's cheap. It costed me 20 euro's to have the switch installed. It also let's you play Genesis games when the Switch is on 60hz. 32X and Mega CD games also can run in 60hz when that switch is installed on the Mega Drive.

The speed is original isn't it? In Japan they use NTSC so the US and Japan are the same, the UK was the only region with PAL wasn't it? Not knocking PAL or anything, but if the games were made in Japan wasn't game development/testing done for NTSC speeds?
@excadrillo992 жыл бұрын
Can I ask, are you playing it on a Megadrive or a Genesis? I believed they were using the 60Hz Rom from the Genesis mini, maybe it wasn't optimized for 50Hz? Either way I'm really hoping it isn't limited to 50Hz after spending this much on an "official" release

A Sega content! Well I have to say - to no surprise - I never played this game. Never had an occasion to own a physical copy, at least a legit one. But I surely did play the original Mega Man, and the remake of one game for PSP. I do agree with you that in terms of music many devs simply missed out on Mega Drive possibilities, that could produce great multi layered music. When it comes to graphics, its obvious Sega could have done better, even without as many colours as Super Nintendo had. They probably did those ports without such huge effort, sadly that was the case with some other games too. But I guess its still better than some of the games computer ports from that period. As with other stuff I cant really relate, so Im going to trust you on this one! Thank you for the review!

@RetroBreak Huge Mega Man fan, eh? Are you aware of the free fangame called *Mega Man Maker* ? It's like Mario Maker only Mega Man centric where people create, share and play their own created levels of Mega Man. It's incredibly fun even for people who don't play Mega Man. They have an online Wiki that serves as a sort of instruction manual, and a fan website run by one of the Developers that grades/rates/records stats for MMM levels. It's not made by Capcom but strictly a fan project so it's all completely free. If you think the crossover level of Wily Wars is something, Mega Man Maker will blow your mind. 😎

One thing I think may affect your handling (or performance) of the game is that Mega Man is not the correct sprite size. He's much bigger than he should be. Definitely a factor in the MM2 Wily stage where you use item 1.

I’ve never got into Mega Man. I think it’s because you can’t shoot diagonals or upwards. I know it’s designed that way but it just annoys the heck out of me. It’s the reason I’m not a huge fan of the original Castlevania games but I love Super Castlevania IV. I also enjoy the Contra games more because you can fire in all directions. It just feels nicer to play. Never completed a Contra game mind you!
@RetroBreak2 жыл бұрын
I actually really like the simplicity of only being able to shoot right or left! Plus most games have one or two weapons which let you aim in all directions, I also really like the first three castlevania games for the same reason haha, I understand why its hard to go back to though!
