He wrestled for a long time before getting into BJJ, but as soon as he got in it was mayhem and now he’s the animal “black-belt slayer” he’s known as today. But against other high-level wrestlers like Pat Downey or J’Den Cox he’s still average at wrestling at best (mostly cos they actively devote themselves to different grappling arts-obviously a wrestler only will be better at wrestling). I think wrestlers that don’t compete in bjj should shut up about wrestling in bjj at high levels, that’s way outside your scope, wrestling is not bjj you don’t know what you’re talking about. Sometimes you’re right but I don’t think it was even on purpose some times. Lol guys a lot of wrestling ceases to matter because the moves will just get you submitted. Some guys guiottines are off the charts in bjj. Taking a shot is risky. You won’t lose points because it got stuffed you’ll just instantly lose the match. There’s not a lot of high level wrestlers at the top in bjj because those guys don’t make it that far. That’s why. A wrestler is going to have to change his game immensely. Nicky rod doesn’t dominate standup in ADCC. Let that sink in. He is a former wrestler and his control and intensity translates to bjj. It wasn’t his takedowns at the highest levels rofl. The comment saying that wishes a div 3 wrestler would dominate bjj. you haven’t watched nicky rod in ADCC recently.

Wreslting without BJJ knowledge get choked to death or arm barred or foot-locked. BJJ actually knows how to finish a fight. Wrestling is masterful at taking you down and humping. BJJ is masterful at ending your night. We just watched gordon ryan and bo nickal prove this again for the thousandth time. Wrestler want NO part of the ground vs jiu jitsu. if they know what they are up against they do everything in their power to run away and play defense. 🤷🏾♂️

@@G1stGBless BJJ is still a martial art, BJJ matches are different than Wrestling matches. BOTH are NOT fights, needed to clarify. It is apples to oranges, adding strikes into the equation changes things up a bit. Of course, BJJ guy > Wrestler on the ground since they train for that and submissions. Wrestler > BJJ guy with standup, pressure and top control. Both fall under the grappling discipline umbrella. They are different

It's just as dangerous too go watch that Russian that snapped his neck when he failed that flying armbar. Shotokhan not really. So long as you have complete obvious control and you initiate the throw, some guys bridge so hard that their backs hit the mat at the same time of the opponent. In freestyle that’s a clean throw, it might not be awarded 5 points, which is the usual maximum for a clean nice back suplex, maybe 4 , but there will be no question as to Downey getting it , neat or not neat.
