I watched this drama a few years back, and I loved and still love this drama, the setting, costume, the actors' portrayal of the characters, and everything. I watch a lot of Chinese dramas but a huge portion of them have subpar settings and acting. But this drama is one of the great ones. Especially Nicky Wu's acting in this drama became totally an inspiration to me. I was surprised at how the Korean version was much more popular than this one. Sure, there are a lot of good Korean Dramas and I watch them as well. But I mean Bu Bu Jing Xin is so underrated. While Moon Lovers is enjoyable, Bu Bu Jing Xin is an art.

I have never enjoyed dramas where the story takes place mostly inside the palace.. BUT this one, I fell so deeply in love with this drama, that my heart hurts so much! I also watched Scarlet Heart 2 this weekend and loved it very much. To my love 4th Prince and the beautiful Ruoxi, thank you for this drama, thank you for your beautiful love story.. I watched the movie and the sadness lingers inside of me for months after. I was so in love with it that I read the whole book in which the drama was based on as well, and man, it was mellow AF. But overall, its an excellent drama and story plot which engages you more and more as the story developed.

Though I like the Korean actors of Moon Ryeo more, Scarlet Heart is the best one. The side characters, even the evil ones, made me cry so much when things happened to them as they also had a relatable, adorable, or pitiful side to them despite all their wrongdoings. Moon Ryeo threw those relationships for the sake of it and drew a heavy line between good and evil characters. The good characters are overly romanticized and the bad ones are overly antagonized. Despite her evilness, the 8th prince's wife genuinely loved him, Whereas, in the Korean drama, Wang Wook's sister, the Korean version of the 8th prince's wife, would throw her brother under the bus at any time. Despite all his flaws and wrongdoings, more so compared to Wang Wook, the 8th prince's storyline made me cry so much. The relationships Ruo Xi had with the 13th prince, her sister Ruo Lan, her co-workers, her friend, her maid, the 8th prince, and 4th prince was so touching. Moon Ryeo, unfortunately, toned those heartful relationships down when they removed non-Korean drama elements.
