It doesn't need as it has a articulated steering. It is also not possible with the geometry of the chassis. In order to work, the trackbase has to be similar to the width, like on shovel crawler.

That's a pretty unique B-Model! I've never seen a vehicle like that. I gotta say I love the no-nonsense colorsceme, just white and some dbg. Too bad the Liebherr is so expensive. I would never drop 450 bucks on this set...
@Nico71Fr3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your message, yes indeed it is pretty basic. It is a best example of functions before forms. This vehicle is designed to search oil and gas in hard environment, so : tracks, strong chassis (giant vibration in the ground so everything must be strong enough), enormous engine with massive rear cooler for hot condition, low center of gravity for climbing abilities (oil and gaz are not where there are roads) and basic forms with minimal security. So yeah, the engineer who have made this had a very fun job ^^
@christrahi163 жыл бұрын
Nice work! Is this model suitable to build if I want a model good for offroad with a lot of torque?
@Nico71Fr3 жыл бұрын
Thanks ! Unfortunately not as the tracks has not enough traction, it will slip.
@christrahi163 жыл бұрын
@@Nico71Fr Ah I see! But assuming that I add rubber pads on the tracks to increase traction, is the torque enough?
@Nico71Fr3 жыл бұрын
@@christrahi16 yes I think it will give more grip. The drivetrain inside can handle the torque so let's test !

@Nico71, amazing work. Have your worked in seismic before? Have you used the AHV IV from INOVA as an example to model it?
@Nico71Fr3 жыл бұрын
Hello, I have never work in seiscmic field, but the Inova AHV IV was indeed one of the inspiration !
@_GSzabados3 жыл бұрын
@@Nico71Fr, indeed amazing work. I really like it. I shared with plenty seismic fellows yesterday. I just find interesting that being a French, you have chosen an American vibrator and not one from Sercel's Nomad models. www.sercel.com/products/Pages/Nomad-65-Neo.aspx ;)
@Nico71Fr3 жыл бұрын
Indeed I did not know that Sercel was French, but in fact I have chosen the Inova as the inspiration model because the Sercel has too complex shape to reproduce with the lack of white connectors in the 42100 sets. I remember also that the shape of optional Sercel tracks do not fit what it is possible to do with Lego (especially the size of the roller compared to the sprocket). Bytheway, if you put url in your comment, youtube put it in spam automatically, so do not :) (that is why I did not see your message).
@_GSzabados3 жыл бұрын
@@Nico71Fr , Sercel is the daughter company of CGG - Compagnie Générale de Géophysique, basically all equipment manufacturing was outsourced there ages ago to keep the profitable company separate. Anyhow, the Nomads with tracks are usually used in cold climate acquisition, where the vibrators usually get an extra winter cover as well for the engine. And of course the cover is not white, but orange. There is a really good video here on KZbin from a Russian crew doing acquisition with those on snow and ice. Thanks for all the replies! Awesome work. Something really special, and it is great.

Nice vehicle and nicely built, but what is its main function in real life? What is it used for? Another question, is the fake engine connected only to the motor or to the transmission too?

I'm I the only one annoyed by the sequence the pistons move in? It looks much better if the sequence follows the fireing sequence of the engine instead of just in a wave. It should be (1-3-4-2) or (1-5-3-6-2-4) or ... (See en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firing_order)
@Nico71Fr3 жыл бұрын
I do not know if it will be easy to do as I use 4 small liftarm on an axle so only 90° possible but it can be changed easily :-)
@KlaasDeSmedt3 жыл бұрын
@@Nico71Fr I know the struggle, for my lego defender (L6), I've found 15-3-62-4 the most pleasing sequence. (- indicating a 90 degree turn, 1 and 5 going up together, 6 and 2 also going up together)

I'm not familiar with the program for Mindstorm, like Matlab or some shit. Anyway point is - I think it'd be interesting to see if you could actually make the power/motor speed directly reflect the motor "rpms" . Very cool design though!
@Nico71Fr3 жыл бұрын
Hello, yes it is totally possible, even with the buwizz or brickcontroller2 by setting the motor of the fake engine on the same control of the gaz and brake, and defined a different motor curved to have an idle behavior. The best would be to use programming blocks to reproduce the exact behavior as it is a hydraulic drivetrain so there is a lag between engine and tracks, as well as for every other hydraulic functions. But I wanted to keep it simple and enable people to set by themselves he engine speed depending of what they want to do.
