My great grandpa lived in Shanghai pre-ww2. Just a day before Japanese bombed Shanghai, he closed his factory and flew to Wuhan with the entire family following the National Govt. He told my mom that it was so difficult to get the air tickets at a time that he had to buy them with gold bars. One of his daughters was born on that plane. Later when Japanese attacked Wuhan, he again flew the family to Chongqing where he stayed till the end of the war. He served as the deputy director of general tax bureau of the national govt in Chongqing. Chongqing was the ww2 wartime capital of China. Due to its year-long foggy weather, theJapnaese have failed their numerous bombing attempts of the city. The exile wartime govts of Korea and Vietnam also moved to Chongqing at a time.

Thank you for sharing this story. Yes I heard that too. Chongqing still has a lot of underground bomb shelters from this time. They have now been renovated for other things which I thought was super interesting. I really loved the city

Chongqing is a very unique city, with imperfections. for example the weather is kinda extrme here, extremely hot in Summer and freezingly cold in Winter (yet no snow for joy, sad), and in winter 80 days out of 100 it is raining or cloudy. you just don't get much sunshine after September. other than that, it is unique in terms of terrain and culture and there is a lot to discover and experience. hope you enjoy your time in Chongqing.

i grew up there, sort of, in a county that's an hour away from the the main city. 32 million people in the whole municipality but the main city has about 12 million people living in it. Props to you guys for exploring this mountain city. Before the whole "modernization" as you mentioned, we go everywhere by bus mostly in the city, and ships and boats to the nearby counties and other cities along the rivers. and most important of all, people's own two legs, lol. you do need to climb up those steps by yourself, haha. there's a famous American in the city, Ben, who happens to own a bar called "Ben's Bar." you can go there and chat him up. i'm sure he will tell you all about the city and the people and the life he's lived there.

They might be able to give you better advices where to visit. One channel I saw was (Reporterfy Media & Traveling). Another British couple. And (GarceFamily4), a family with two kids from the US. Yes, you are right about few foreigners in Chongqing. Unlike in shanghai or Beijing. Especially in Shanghai, some of the bars and clubs in downtown area almost have no Asian face in there lol 😂. Have fun, enjoy your stay. I might go there again when I visit China next time.

London is also famous for the fog, so I guess British must be interested with another famous foggy city of China, right? As you can see, Chongqing is located at the intersection of the Yangtze River and Jialing River, which makes it the connection point for the whole Sichuan province with the other parts of China. There has been several large-scale immigration waves into Sichuan in Chinese history, and Chongqing has always been the ideal destination. And the recent time was during World War II when Chongqing became China’s accompanying capital, and since then its population exploded. This is probably the actual need for Chongqing to build so many skyscrapers. In fact, Hongkong is also a much hilly and populated city, so the two cities shares very much similar lookings. From the introductions revealed, I guess the Chongqing series would last for a long time until 2021. You can really stay in Beijing for a long time without filming (except for Jack's huge editting work).
@Nicofilms4 жыл бұрын

Chongqing is a modern metropolis infused with its historic legacies in a perfect balance, making it a genre of its own. And chongqingers are proud of their local culture which is why many foreigners making a living here find that they may have to learn to speak a bit Chongqing local language rather than Chinese putonghua. FYI, if my memory doesn’t fail me, I think there is a British consulate in chongqing for the entire southwest area of China.

Welcome to Chongqing! The whole Yuzhong District is a huge adventure park with scenic walks, and of course full of businesses and people. You can experience the most authentic Chongqing culture and history here. In Nan'an District, there is a Nanbin Rd (南滨路) where you can observe the best night view of Chongqing. You can also drive to Nanshan (南山 South Mountain) to oversee the view of the whole Yuzhong District. If you feel like to do some shopping, there are a few cool areas that are not only rich in business, but also with amazing scenes of a modern city. Best visit them at night. For example Jiefangbei (解放碑 Monument of Liberation), Daping (大坪) and Guanyinqiao (观音桥). There is also a street known as the street never sleeps called Jiujie (九街 The 9th Street) in Jiangbei District. It's nothing like a red light district. Just a place that is full of pubs and restaurants and they run 24/7. Absolutely safe to roam around. These locations are all within 30mins drive if you stay at Yuzhong District and if the traffic doesn't jam. Mind you the public bikes are nowhere to be found within the city range. Best call a Didi or a taxi, or railway to get around. There are still much more to explore in metropolis Chongqing, and I haven't mentioned locations in other counties worth a visit. I guess iChongqing personnel can help you with everything else you need to know. Have a wonderful stay in Chongqing. Cheers!
