An AMAZING artist! I really think they should speak with the artist early on about the style they want for the painting. Whether they want a more natural look, or contemporary etc and THEN let the artist do their thing. Luckily this is an absolutely amazing piece.

Thanks for the episode. I’m sure it’s a challenge to convey sound in a painting… the eyes closed is one effective way to communicate that I think. I love the lighting and the bow almost looks like a laser beam. Only thing that bothers me is the red marks on her face… and how green her hands are… almost a gory feel to it. But maybe that’s Calum’s signature?

You can see the intelligence in Annabell's eyes when she was watching Nicola play. You can see how she was absorbing everything. I wonder if she is still playing.
@jillp37616 ай бұрын
The picture he drew of Annabel was stunning, what an insightful artist he is. I hope she does well with her violin seeing her watching someone famous playing just for her was obviously inspiring. Congratulations Callum, you have a massive and gentle insight for your art and model. 🎉🎉🎉 Meant to say how much I loved his portrait, the intuition he has for the model. (For the life of my 87 year old brain I can't recall her name 😢 ) Has created a beautiful and memorable picture. CALLUM you will do remarkable work....🎉❤

It's a fine scholarly idea concept to the delight of La BENEDETTI. BRAVO 👏!!! I would have liked to see La Aphrodite goddess BENEDETTI playing the violin 🎻. She exudes a dynamic feminine sensuality with a killer smile. That she is a famous virtuoso is noted and on the record. She could actually change her name to Nicollá PAGANINI if she wanted to and nobody would argue. In closing, I want to congratulate KALLUM for being a great sport introducing some of the techniques from the runner- ups and others on the greatest show on KZbin. (Do a surprise portrait of La BENEDETTI in that scalding black dress will you? )))))))😊

A Fab work to be sure and I am glad Callum won. But what do we make of the closed eyes?
@stacykirwin13676 ай бұрын
I think the eyes closed communicates to the viewer that this is about the music she makes… it invites us to imagine the sounds. It’s second nature to her to be playing the violin… if her eyes were open in this pose it would look unnatural or almost like she’s distracted and not enjoying the moment. Eyes open would be nice in a different pose perhaps but may risk losing that emotive aspect they wanted Calum to capture.

YOU ARE NOT DOING JUSTICE TO VIEWERS🔥 one after another we are introduced to extraordinary talents, they bring their own Style and Techniques, and most often those techniques are recognized by the judges. But what a waste if we the viewers aren't able to learn anything from those techniques, I request ,Suggest and demand that those unusual methods, techniques should be celebrated with a separate segment, it doesn't matter if those are the winning techniques or not but the journey of learning should not stop.❤

Love the boldness of youth. Think he should get a commission piece to do Christ 👌🏽
@celebratelife84366 ай бұрын
The collage ideas he had were a lot more interesting and dynamic than the final product. I'm truly surprised about his poor choice of color in this painting as he has demonstrated full mastery in this area. The angle that he picked doesn't look very flattering either considering that Nicola Benedetti is a very beautiful woman and he could have captured her beauty and her passion for music a lot better than that. My best guess is that he didn't want to make his girlfriend jealous (?) The dark blurry background behind her looks incomplete next to the highly detailed window, her outline is too stark against it, making it look like a cut out, which could have worked with a different color palette. She also looks very stiff which is precisely the problem of working directly from a picture and copying every detail, but he did a marvelous job painting the hands and the violin. The main problem with this painting is the yellow green color palette and those reds on the pixel like shapes, that Color scheme just seems out of place and makes the painting look like a bad variation of a Photoshop filter. It just looks very artificial and doesn't seem as organic and natural as his portraits from life. I think they should commission 3 painters for these projects, it would be more interesting to see different perspectives instead of just one and I'm sure the galleries will have enough room for three paintings maybe they don't have to be so big. Sorry I'm rambling I just feel a bit disappointed because I've been watching All the episodes leading to this moment and there were exceptional painters that could have done a marvelous job at painting Nicola Benedetti.
@kokoslores96666 ай бұрын
I don't think the portrait looks artificial at all. If you get closer you will see all the fine elements in it. For me it is full of magic and poetry. It has strong blunt elements in it like the window and the light but also very subtle and delicate structures. Strong and delicate - that's the Nicola Benedetti! ❤
@celebratelife84366 ай бұрын
@@kokoslores9666 maybe if I see it in person I'll get a different perspective but the composition and execution looks artificial in the sense of being copied from a photo and the color palette doesn't help it actually accentuates the quality of being contrived, it just doesn't look spontaneous or fresh.
@kokoslores96666 ай бұрын
@@celebratelife8436 Why should it look " fresh"? It looks poetic, there is darkness and light in it - just like the classic music she is playing on the violine. Two people, two opinions - but that's okay, isn't it. 😀
@celebratelife84366 ай бұрын
@@kokoslores9666 Absolutely and I meant fresh in the sense of Spontaneity, because the figure looks very stiff from being copied from a photograph. That's the problem when painters copy everything exactly from a photograph, the end product can come out looking stale. The dark background is not working for me because of the way it's clashing with the figure it looks like it's not part of the painting and makes it look incomplete because it's so blurry and the outline of the figure looks so stark against it
@anitasmith77646 ай бұрын
The David Hockney piece (to me) is nothing at all special enough to represent the queens reign. Can anyone explain how it represents her? It looks as if a child has drawn it. I just can’t imagine that’s what they wanted hanging in there. (Just my opinion 😂)

Not to take anything away from his imagination, because I still think he’s a fine artist, but when you draw or paint a portrait from a photo half the battle is already fought for you, because you’ve already gone from three dimension to two dimension, the camera has done that work for you. Doing that yourself is part of being a talented portraitist. I’m very wary of it when some of the people aren’t using the camera and some are. I don’t think that’s a fair competition.
