Nicky, What you have done here is just what I was looking for. I am 58 years old and not really played my violin since leaving college at 24. The fear of getting started was real ...... I needed a mentor yet didn't know where to find someone. Its like getting back into training after having lost my 'form'.... my left arm aches, my neck is tender and my fingers need to harden up too! This piece was one of my childhood favourites and is absolutely perfect for helping rekindle a lost part of me and to ease my instrument back into life and vitality again .... it needs to feel my love once again in order for us both to radiate and resonate. Thank you for providing the support to start me to find my way back. Claire Brooke

Mr./Ms. Brooke, I can relate! I'm 58 years old too and though my background is acoustic & nylon string guitar, I've just gotten hooked on a recent purchase of an NS Design WAV5 and I'm addicted to it especially during this shut-down time with hours/day to practice and never get bored! My point, your story motivates me so I say I wish for you - continued inspiration!! Take care and never stop! Pierre Lacazotte

I’m 58 too! Restarting classical violin after passing grade 6 several decades ago though I have played Irish fiddle for several years on and off and managed to get in some bad habits and never left first position. Really enjoying dusting off Vivaldi Am and the Bach Double but it’s very slow progress but slowly getting more assured. These videos are great.

Wow!!! You're so inspiring!!! I discovered you and your channel by chance, as I am actually a rock guitarist and don't follow the classical scene (this will have to change!). I have just shared your channel with my sister, who played for over ten years from when she was a child, and unfortunately had to give it up in her late teens... Although she still has her violin, I'm sure she's always regretted not carrying on playing! I'm going to convince her to get back into playing!!!😃 Thank you for what you're doing❤️

What a great opportunity to learn from an accomplished violinist! Thank you Nicky for your gift and your heart (and for the chuckle when I heard that you mention with that awesome Scottish accent that your videographer's name just happened to be "Scott" 😁).

Amazing! thank you very much for this masterclass! I think I am a little older than the target audience, but you patience and calming attitude made it so easy to follow along and be clam and foucused in practice. I think the biggest challenge in the first four bars is the first note. It is so important to set the tone, and i find myself getting mentally blocked and shying away on the entrance

Hi Nicky......... since we last spoke a few years ago at Ravinia when I mentioned I was learning the cello, I gotta tell you I've set that aside for the moment to learn the banjo..... Yeah, it's been one of my passions for a few years , ever since I attended a jazz festival in Wisconsin and watched a brilliant banjoist play. I love the twang it makes and the fun it can create just strumming a few simple melodies we Americans have heard from the performers of Bluegrass. Well, so far, it's not been a smooth launch for me because banjo notes are not as easy to find as on a cello : they're sorta scattered here and there along the 5 strings, and so I'm gonna have to listen to your instructions of familiarization as my first lesson and then go from there. Anyhow, I'm delighted to see you again on You Tube, and might I ask, When are you returning to the Chicago area again? When you do, maybe we can duet a few melodies together on cello and banjo. HAH! By then I should have mastered a couple of Tennessee favorites......"Whiskey before Breakfast" , and "Cumberland Gap" .......

When learning the notes, do you think it's OK to learn them as though playing a ukulele? I'm originally a guitarist and I find having no bow and just plucking the strings allows me to remember what the notes are and what fingerings I want to use. But if you think this doesn't help my playing, I'll attempt to stop!
@FredtheDorfDorfman19853 жыл бұрын
When I play, ya really need to have a lot of patience, and a whole lot of imagination, so you can envision how it’s supposed to sound, so you can hear it like I hear it, in my head, where it sounds right, but what actually gets played, well,, um,, hmmm... 😉

I think some of the links click through to the wrong music eg violin annotations takes your through to the viola part, but they all seem to be there if you keep clicking around. From The video before this one, it sends you to the foundation website itself which I couldn’t find the music at either. This link is great though and maybe could be put on the last video? Thanks, Nicky, really looking forward to diving into this.
