Taken as a whole, this is (in my opinion, at least) one of the most wonderful posts on all of KZbin.

These beautiful performances are extraordinary (although they are thoroughly characteristic of Gedda) in that they display, at one and the same time, a spoken quality and a perfectly placed singing voice. What a wonderful artist he was! Back in the Sixties and Seventies, when I was living in New York, I heard him live many times, both at the Metropolitan Opera and in various concert venues around the city. He was one of my idols.
