Gorgeous performance of a timeless classic by one of opera's greatest tenors. And the photo/image montage is totally apt, with things from the mythic literature around Sadko intermixed with stills from the Russian film and those of live opera performances. Very nice all the way around! I don't know why this great show isn't more often performed.

No tenor ever before him or after him has given us so many times of pure joy and happiness bij listening to his interpretations of music from so many stiles and from so many times and that all singing so natural in so many languages. So: What Gedda could - only Gedda could. We own him a lot.

My highest praise is when I call an artist a great teacher, and M. Gedda is the greatest of all teachers. His musicianship, inventive phrasing, and pure emotion put him on the tenor throne in Mt. Olympus, in my opinion.

ENGLISH: Thy hidden gems are rich beyond all measure, Unnumbered are the pearls thy waters treasure, Oh wondrous land! Oh land of India! Where the sea encloses Cliffs with rubies laden, Phoenix there reposes, Bird with face of maiden. Sweet the cadence falling, Paradise recalling. Golden plumes advancing Hide the ripples dancing; He who hears that singer Shall forever linger. Thy hidden gems are rich beyond all dreaming, Beneath thy waves unnumbered pearls are gleaming, Oh wondrous land! fair land of India!

Gedda is Russian as well as Swedish. He spent most of his childhood in a Russian-speaking home. So, at the very least, he is a "heritage speaker" of Russian (and quite possibly, a "native speaker" of no language, like myself).
