I’m not sure if anyone will read this but this song means a lot to me. Last year was pretty hard for me, emotionally and this song is so cathartic and it helped me in my healing journey. I grew up in a toxic family (had to move to the US with an aunt due to financial situation and left my mom in Mexico) and according to what my aunt and her family made me believe I’m “the ugly” and “the dumb one” from the family and their words hurt me. I was 17 when I was so depressed and even tempted to take my life away. I even asked my aunt for help saying I needed to see a therapist cause I wasn’t ok and I was just ignored. I used to cry in my room every Saturday morning cause I didn’t want to be home. I wanted to be at school where I could be myself and feel accepted. Years passed and I thought I had healed those wounds but I had just ignored them and those memories kept haunting me. I started therapy in 2021. Worked on other issues first but it was until last year that I worked on those old wounds and Cinderella’s Eyes, specially Sticks + Stones helped heal my inner child. From feeling sad and crying to “said no to the shrink, I can fix me I think” to feeling strong and empowered to “can’t think why I could’ve made you so so angry, your bullet I don’t feel them come fire at me”

I always thought she had the best live vocal in the band, and I am SO glad that she went solo. I LOVE her voice, and her red hair. I hate that she was called ugly, she is a beautiful woman and she deserves so much more recognition, not just in the UK, but world wide!

I'm literally amazed by the theme of the song itself. How the hell could someone label this stunning beautiful lady as "ugly"? I really do not understand some people's criteria for beauty. This is one of the most amazing undervalued artists I've ever encountered in my life, and the aura surrounding her is just breathtaking. Her solo album is an absolute pop masterpiece in my opinion that was truly ahead of its time, both musically and theme-wise. Rock on Nicola. You're the best!

Happens every day people are just arseholes. Look at all the kids online with eating disorders or the young girls who've killed themselves because of receiving similar abuse. Think it was either Jimmy Carr or Keith Lemon I seem to remember were talking s*** about her being the ugly one in the group? I Always thought she was sexy but now understand why she wasn't so confident

Writers and songwriters create what they know, and experience. To think such a lovely woman might have been called ugly just amazes me. If she's ugly, I must look like I've been hit by a bus.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if the “Queen Bee” sang this in 2 weeks time on “The Masked Singer” TV show on ITV. Then the song, as sung by a lonely, but beautiful bee, resonated with the judges and the viewers, then shot to Number 1 in the streaming and download charts, finally getting the promotion and awareness it deserves! Such a beautiful song deserved more of ‘a buzz’ when it was released. We’ve since had the Greatest Showman etc. so I think the general public are ready to hear this with new ears, as sung by a lonely bee ;) Please make it happen! Please! Cx

Classixuk Unfortunately that didn't happen, but I am here after seeing the end of the final. Immediately knew it was her from her performance. That's why Girls Aloud was unique. It had a tinge of every music genre.
@Georgia.J4 жыл бұрын
@@DementedButtHole Don't think you got the point. It was all about pop in Girls Aloud, that's why you never heard Nicola sing a line or saw her in a video unless she had dyed the ginger hair black. She had a good voice, the most unique but they made Cheryl 2nd singer after Nadine the power vocal because Cheryl was prettier. It was Sarah they expected to be the "sexy one" though, and she was at first due to the opening shots and lines of their first song. They were SO desperate to have a fit blonde(and all white line up) they rigged the vote and booted Javine out of the band. All they were was pop and image. They didn't see Nicola had talent, didn't care she had the most melodic vocal, she was pale and ginger so they pushed her to the back. Nicolas body was actually the best if you want to be superficial , she worked out the most and in "Long hot Summer" her body puts the others to shame. The producers saw THAT and put her in tiny shorts and she got some video time for once. So obvious. When she dyes her hair black she gets more camera time and sexy clothes too. When she is ginger and pale you don't see her, on the first song she is literally dressed in a woolly black jumper and you see her twice sitting under some stairs while the rest pout and twirl about.

I actually think the constant abuse she received so openly has scarred her a little mentally, 😢 Im not at all surprised because looking back she really was targeted by horribly venomous cyber bullies. She always cries when singing this poignant song however and I think you have to stop looking back at some point. Nicola blossomed into an elegant beautiful woman, it was all downhill for the others because they were put on such a pedestal for their looks. Cheryl is a perfect example, she was adored nationally for her beauty but the moment she dared to age she was savagely pulled apart for looking so "awful " and my particular fave "resembling Michael Jackson". 😐 Yes, people really said that. I understand why it's such an emotive thing for her but she has witnessed her friend and colleague going through the most vicious abuse just like once did. How everything changes. She has the intelligence to know it's all just a farce. However I do think the media routinely bullying a minor for their physical appearance is a separate issue, the press should have to honour certain responsibilities when reporting about children and that's technically what Nicola was when the newspapers were mocking and deriding her. I just don't think that's acceptable. Sorry for long post lol!
