Thank you Nicola. I have seen that video before but much of it was forgotten, like the turtle rib. No way was I gonna name what that was. Such an unusual find. The Fiolet pipes stir curiosity so plan to look them up searching first through the Great Exhibition. One thing leads to another. Just as a side comment.....if you ever come to Melbourne, we have a large house with two spare rooms. You may use them to keep your accom cost down if you have a mind to. Aussies are a very friendly bunch and love to help out where we can. Our Yarra river is not much of a search area but there are lots of creeks and streams around the old gold mining areas where relics may be unearthed. Nothing as old as in England of course.

Unbelievably, Walter Whiffin is one of my relatives. As soon as you said the name I knew he was in my family tree. He is my first cousin x5 removed. My 5th Great Grandfather who was Richard Whiffin b 21 May 1769 in Westerham Kent was Walter’s grandfather. I am an amateur genealogist and have been researching my family tree for almost 20 years so have managed to do quite a lot of research in that time. I can’t believe you found a button belonging to/made by someone in my tree. Simply amazing!

Hi Nicola! the "mystery coin" is a 6 deniers piece (nominal equivalent to the English "sixpence" but bronze), this type is called "dardanne" and was struck only under Louis XIV of France (1643-1715), I think in the few last years of his reign. In the center of the triangle there is a letter, it is the mintmark, it seems to be "K", which is Bordeaux mint. They are rare in high grade but common in worn condition. I recall a "dardanne" was one of my firts "ancient" coins when I was about 10 or 11 years old, my aunt bought it for me in a flea market here in Buenos Aires!

Another wonderful video, Nic 👍 Those coins were amazing. Also, St. Louis, MO, and (pretty sure) Louisville, KY, were also named for Louis XIV. On a side note, I want to thank you for continuing to take us on your mudlarking adventures, especially during this past year. Yours was the first mudlarking channel that I found and followed years ago, and you’ve taught me so much about the hobby just by watching your vids. They’ve been a wonderful and welcomed distraction during this crazy past year for sure - I love how you point the video at the foreshore and encourage us to look for the finds. I think I can speak for many of us that your videos have allowed us to escape the immediacy of our daily reality and feel like we’re in a real adventure. Nicola, This was an excellent video, I loved your finds and your information, it added so much to the presentation. I follow the Mudpies from Bristol, Father and Daughter, I commented on their new mud christened shirts and how the mud was able to preserve so many things. Josie wrote back and said it's really more a clay rather than mud, but claying the Thames or Thames Clay larkers really doesn't work:) That poor Cormorant, I wondered if it would be able to ingest that Flatfish, but I wasn't surprised the enterprising gull got it! It's a bird eats fish existence. Cheers, Rik Spector

Beautiful video! I particularly liked the lights on the water at the end. The link between coins and pipes was very nice; who knows, perhaps those coins bought pipes! In any case, I loved the symmetry of the two trios; it was, as you said, very satisfying. Seeing your videos come up on Sunday each week is a treat for me-- I always make a mug of tea and sit here across the pond and then some (I live in Arizona), drinking my Earl Grey and watching you hunt for treasures and history. I found it on the shore of my local town, Annapolis, Nova Scotia, Canada, near the 1700's English Fort Anne. If I've correctly identified it, based on yours, it is a rare and very early find for here.

FYI, use a bright flashlight ( torch to you) hold it at 90 degrees to flat surface, may show some unseen details. over here in the colonies I'm a metal detectorist and this works on most coins or buttons. unless it's a Slick Rick or his brother Blank Hank then forget about it. I'm amazed at the amount of treasure you find looking at your studio which if you think about is a sad statement about how Human's got rid of their trash through out history, chucked it in the river, for how many years? 1000+ best to you this coming year, has to be better then last year. keep looking down, be safe.......
