Join us (Nicola White and Simon Bourne - @si-finds as we get our headlamps out and go for a midnight mudlark. The River comes alive at night and so does the urban wildlife! Find out what the Thames has thrown out with the tide. Si takes his detector and Nic is eyes only. And we make some surprising and interesting finds.
Our headlamps are provided by Olight and they are EXCELLENT I have to say!
olightworld.co...
Thank you for watching. You can find Simon's fab channel @si-finds, and you can follow me on twitter and instgram @tidelineart.
You do need a permit to mudlark the River Thames and you can find all the info you need on the Port of London Authority website:-

thank you!

I love seeing you and Simon together, Nic! While your tree puns leave much to be desired, the banter between you is always fun. This nighttime mudlarking is certainly different but interesting in its own way. Who knew we'd see foxes and snails? While you dream of pipes, all I have are pipe dreams {sighing]......Thanks to you and Simon for giving us this nice surprise.

Oh, I enjoyed this! Back in Florida where I was born and raised I had a number of night-time rambles along the beaches, occasionally in the rain; good memories, there's something special about being out by the water in the dark. Those chunks you two found look to be to be lumps of tarred wood or even knotted rope all tarred up, nailed to docks to keep the boats from smashing into them when the waves are shipping-- I saw a lot of them back home made out of old pieces of car tires, chopped up and nailed in layered chunks just like that. If you ever run across a shoe-sole like what you found that has no heel, keep in mind that most of the hose you see people wearing in medieval illustrations and illuminations were soled with soft leather that constantly had to be replaced as it wore down. Men and women both wore them; you patched them as you could, they were both underwear and outerwear and usually were passed down by the upper classes as they wore them thin to their servants or the local poor to be patched and worn again, right down until they were rags and got cut up and put into jars in the privy.

I live only 40 miles from London and the skyline looks different every time I go these days. For years everyone avoided the river because it was basically an abandoned industrial wasteland. When I started work in the mid 80s there were still old bomb sites in the City. (Sounding like a right old codger but still in my 50s. 😳)
