I'm getting to old to cook everything for 2 big holidays less than 30 days apart. I save up for it and it's very special to me, my daughter and grandchildren. I finally get to sit woth them to eat and play games. That is really special to me. 🎉

Dear Ingrid, I've lost my mom this year as well and understand your pain! You actually have the same name as she did, if Ingrid in your username is your own name... I'm entirely alone this year, too. It's so difficult to deal with, and while I've been trying to make the best of it and still enjoy the season in my own little ways, and even decorated a tree in honor of my mom, I think I'll also be glad when December is over. And then Magdeburg added to the depression. I live in Hannover, which is quite close to Magdeburg. A few days before it happened, I rushed over the X-Mas market in my own city during daytime, and even then already I felt stressed and not safe. Because this horror had happened before some years ago already in Berlin. I had no idea, that two days later I would hear in the news, that something terrible like this had happened again! Lets hope, that the coming year is going to be a little brighter and a little lighter on the heart. 🍀I'm wishing you lots of strength, warmth, and hope for the future. Lets make our mothers proud by not giving up! 💝

It is a difficult Christmas for us this year. Our 46 yr old son lost his life this past Aug to an aggressive cancer. He was such an optimistic person ,an artist and designer and had such a great love of his family that extended to the community he lived in . We are wrestling with his loss and at Christmas it is felt with such a force because he was “Christmas “to his children and family. Thank you Nicola and Simon for your Christmas special ,it reminded me of the times my son and I searched for treasures in a local forest tip, that big smile when something of interest had been unearthed😊and the time spent together. Wishing you all the best for the holidays and 2025.

Your kind words, in addition to the fun entertainment of watching you lark, are always balm to the soul! 💝I do wish you a very peaceful and happy X-Mas, and an amazing start into the new year! 🎄I'm wishing this, too, to anyone else who reads this! 🎀 For me, this time of the year is indeed very difficult right now. My mother, who was the last family I still had, has died of cancer this spring. I was with her, when she passed. All year long, I managed to deal somewhat okay with it, but facing the first X-Mas without her has brought up all the pent up grief this month. I'm already struggling with depression, so these sad emotions on top of that make it extra hard. Especially, as I live very isolated and don't really have any friends I can hang out with and talk to. In the 12 years I'm living in my current apartment, I had only put up a Yule or X-Mas tree twice before, but this year I decided to do it again in honor of my mom, because she loved X-Mas. I even decorated it with some of her ornaments, which I had saved when I had to clear out her home. Tomorrow, on X-Mas Eve, I plan to make one of her special recipies, which used to be a comfort food of mine. I hadn't made it anymore since she died, because I thought it would be too painful. Maybe it will still be so tomorrow, but at least it'll make me feel a little bit like not all of her is "lost". The longest night of the year has passed already, so maybe the slowly returning light will bring some new hope. 🌞 Stay safe, everybody! 💚Lots of greetings from Germany.

Wrap the sixpence up in greaseproof paper Nicola to play safe that.nobody does actually choke! I was shocked when you said the sixpence was discontinued 50yrs ago! I felt a little bit sad. I’m 72 and used to get a saturday sixpence as my pocket money as a child. You seemed to be able to buy so many sweets AND a Judy or Bunty comic! Now you mentioned bath salts as a Christmas gift! I used to make this gift by washing crystals, colour by using food colouring, nice bottle, ribbon round the neck, and it looked really good, and was so useful and well received. I don’t think children do these things anymore which is sad. Much love and hugs to you Nicola for a wonderful Christmas and New Year ! from cold Norfolk! Love Helen 👩🦳🎄☕️🫶🙏🌹😻💕👍xx

You do realize that you two are quite, quite mad going out in those stormy conditions 😀 but you knew that anyway. Thank you both for what you do. You give this old lady a lot of pleasure. For the first time in thirty years I have a family member with me so we are being big playful kids - home made Christmas cake, mince pies and pudding, complete with a sixpence. Yes I remember the home made presents. Rationing sugar and sweets was still in place when I was young so when it finished Mum would stuff dates with green or pink marzipan and perhaps an almond. These presents were very warmly received. May you and yours plus everyone reading this go from strength to strength at this special time. Merry sparklymas.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Nicola! When I was a child, we received an orange, various nuts and ribbon candy in our Christmas stockings. I have many happy memories of Christmas morning with my Mom and Dad and three siblings. Time certainly changes things and my parents and two siblings are gone now and missed terribly. New traditions evolve as time passes, but we tend to eat the same foods every year - many of which are way too fattening! Oh well, that’s what January cleansing is all about!

Hi Nicola, thanks for your lovely video. Happy and healthy New year to you and your family. Christmas has been an ordeal for me this year, all the weeks before and christmas day, as I lost my beloved husband on the 1st February this year. It's almost a year and I'm so sad and miss him so much, christmas was one of our favourite times. xxx

As a fellow treasure hunter I've found that often the best finds are under the most difficult conditions when your expectations are low.
