Why you need to road trip Sri Lanka!

The road trip continues! We are setting off in Mirissa with the goal of traveling to Ella, Sri Lanka. Ella is easily one of the most beautiful places in Sri Lanka to travel, and the road to Ella made us more and more excited with every passing kilometer. The scenery changed drastically as we move from coastal beaches and palm trees in Mirissa and Hiriketiya Beach, to the rolling hills and tea plantations that Ella is so famous for.
If you are traveling in Sri Lanka, we could not recommend renting a scooter for the journey more highly! Seeing the scenery from a car or train is one thing, but feeling the wind in your hair and smelling everything (good and bad) that passed by is a much more immersive experience. Not to mention you can stop at beautiful places along the way! Although the journey from Mirissa to Ella is only 100 miles/170 kilometers, we broke the drive into 2 days because two people on one scooter with everything we own is kind of a lot. Sore butts are no joke on these long travel days. We chose to spend a night near Tissamaharama, which is actually where most people stay if they are going on a safari in Yala National Park. We opted not to do this and hope you watch the video to hear why we made this choice, despite the fact that it sounds fun and exciting!

Hey there we use a 360 camera to get the cool shots. We find them to be very unique! The camera is on a selfie stick that is digitally removed by the camera so it looks like it's floating.

Feel free to tell me if im wrong but i believe the national park is broken into many sectors and visitors are allowed into only few sectors. so animals could retreat back into them and live freely

Yes I think that's correct but we heard that when an elephant or leopard is found, MANY jeeps crowd the animals immediately. We think it's okay to watch the animals, but the number of jeeps should be less to manage the load on the animals.

For beach destinations, the south coast is best from Oct to Apr. Otherwise you will will want to visit the east coast (Arugam Bay). Central Sri Lanka is great for visiting all year round!
