Oh my gosh when you talked about the people who say "wow you're only 4 months pregnant". I felt that! People used to comment on my belly size my whole first pregnancy. Why do people feel like pregnant women need commentary?

So true. In fact people seem to feel women in general need commentary. "You will meet the right person." "Wow, you lost a lot of weight!" "How is a girl like you still single?" "You should think about giving your mum some grandkids, you're not getting any younger!" "I just couldn't work as much as you, I value the time with my kids too much." "Wow, you are only 4 months pregnant?" "You look tired." "You sure own a lot of shoes for a minimalist." "I hear wedding bells!" "You really splurged on those baby clothes. They will only wear them for a few weeks you know." ... ... ...

I 100% agree and highly recommend it to every pregnant woman, especially if you want a more natural birth, but even if you don't, it is a great resource. Also, remember that 2nd etc babies usually come faster! For second baby, the rule is typically contractions

I think what a lot of people don't realize is that an epidural is not a guarantee! As a birth worker I've seen people not prepare and have zero coping mechanisms because they are so certain in getting an epidural, but like I said, they don't always work and aren't always an option. Its so good to prepare yourself for a natural birth even if you don't plan on having one ☺️ Sarah Lavonne and Built To Birth (Bridget Taylor) are two awesome birth workers here on KZbin!

A doula helped me soooo much!!!! Helped me mentally and get through 12 hours of unmedicated labor. To be transparent, after that I was worn out physically and received a light epidural. My midwives were fantastic as well.

I have no resource recommendations, but having a mantra helped me. I just kept thinking “this is only 2 minutes. I can do anything for 2 minutes” and that got me through the horrible double contractions. Once you’re ready to push it’s actually relieving! 8-10 cm is hell though. YOU CAN DO IT!

I think men prefer to name baby early so they feel a sense of connection to them given they physically can't feel them. That also happened with my husband, he wanted to call her myah as soon as we found the name because that was his way of being with her.

After my second birth with epidural and feeling really sick after (dizzyness, worst headaches, etc), I decided to go all natural on my third one. I can't say it was easy, having a big baby, the expulsion was the hardest, but i'm proud of myself for doing it. Usually, the second birth it's easyer than the first, especially if the pregnancies are not so far apart, so I recommend epidural with the first one and trying all natural with the second. I'm thinking of going all natural with my fourth one too, so I hope it will be ok. I'll see in two months 😅.

Hey girl! I’m binge watching your pregnancy videos because I’m at my first OB appointment with my second pregnancy and so so nervous. Anyways, I saw another KZbin use hair combs to relieve contraction pain. It looks like it actually works! She would squeeze two combs one in each hand, during contractions and the counter pressure would take her mind off of the pain!

If you can just get in the mindset that it’s going to be a terrible period of time, you can get through it hahaha. I had a natural birth and I just told myself to expect to be very miserable (kind of like when you have food poisoning) and it helped me get through it much faster. I know this isn’t great advice but for some reason, it helped me 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣 you can totally do it! 🥰

If you’re hoping for a natural birth you could look into delivering with a midwife or nurse midwife instead of an OB/GYN. Or find an OB whose care is more similar to a midwife model of care. OB/GYN’s are not trained in natural childbirths and some have never witnessed a spontaneous unassisted birth... just something to think about! congrats on the baby!

My sister had an idea for her firstborn's name pretty early on, but wouldn't say for sure up until a few weeks until he was born. Same with my niece. No joke after I was so pain relieved and granted I was no longer feeling the ring of fire but u can do it for sure if u have a great support . I didn’t intend to be brave enough to do it without but that’s just how I had to plus the nurses did not want to give me more epidural

I would also be cautious of laboring at home only because things in your body change quite a lot when you begin to labor and it’s very reassuring to have the baby being monitored! If the baby’s heart rate begins to drop suddenly, then they can quickly intervene in the hospital. However, if you’re at home and have no idea that the baby’s heart rate has dropped significantly, then that can possibly lead to some scary situations. Same thing with your blood pressure, it may be rising but you would never know.

I recommend the book "Made for this" by Mary Haseltine. It's a Christian, natural pregnancy and birth book! It is Catholic, and I know you're not Catholic, but it's such a good resource for integrating your faith into pregnancy and birth. The Bradley Method child birth education courses are a great investment to prepare mama and papa to deliver naturally. You take a 2 hour class once a week towards the end of your pregnancy. My husband and I took an online course all the way from India as we were stuck here due to covid, and we delivered our baby naturally and unmedicated, we were both confident and prepared for it because of the course, the instructors are amazing and super hands on!

Pain in childbearing is also a result of the fallen world in which we live. ;) We should definitely seek God's help in childbirth, but one of the ways God helps us is through today's modern medical provider. Nicole should not feel any guilt for choosing a hospital birth if that is where she feeis safest. God forbid a medical emergency happens, but if it does, there is great comfort in knowing a skilled medical team is ready to support mama and baby at a drop of a hat. I speak from personal experience ;) not shaming anyone for choosing a home birth, but there are also many benefits of a hospital birth ;) God can provide for you in the hospital OR at home. :)
