Just came across this video today following an historic decision that was made in the US... thank you so much for making this video and sharing your experience

Wow! Thanks for shedding light on the idea of flag theory. I enjoyed the video.

Thanks so much, Gift! Sounds like you've already put some principles of flag theory to good use without knowing it! :)

What reason did you use to not give up your other nationalities when you naturalised as a Dutch citizen? I read on the IND website that it is a must.

Hey there, Nicole! I like your videos about taking notes very much and appreciate it a lot. But can you share you experience of learning languages? May be you can help me with some advice as polyglot. I got stuck with my English vocabulary. I just stopped memorizing words at some point and endless repeating of them don't even help. I.e., reading any economic article for me is hard as hell even if the words are familiar to me, but I hardly can recall meaning or translation of them. I'm not fluent in any roman languages and don't have a lot of speaking practice right now, may be this is the cause of my problem, but I do all writing and reading in English every day to compensate it some how.

Hi! I can definitely share how I do it, though I know it isn't for everyone. I speak from day one. For me, speaking is THE most important thing, so I focus on that to the exclusion of everything else. I use Italki (www.italki.com/i/ref/fHFBb - if you use that, we both get some free lessons) and hire native speakers (not necessarily teachers) to talk to me as often as I can afford. I like to start out really intense, like a three-month period where I have at least three lessons a week. After that, I'm usually over the awkward beginner hump and can introduce myself and make small talk comfortably. I then find some cool KZbinrs in that language and a sitcom on Netflix that I can binge-watch. Sitcoms are better than movies because the cast and themes and vocabulary are repetitive and more like real life. With higher levels, I challenge myself with harder material. For example, I have a teacher I met on Italki with whom I analyze Spanish poetry. I have another one with whom I go through the tax site in Dutch. I'm currently pushing through Niklas Luhman's writing in German. Whatever weird thing I'm doing, I make sure it's something I'm interested in! :) I hope that helps!

@@nicolevdh thanks a lot for sharing! I really like your approach and definitely should try it. And make a note about this conversation. You know what I mean. 😉

It's very appropriate that I came across your content in looking at flag theory as a vehicle for LGBTQ[buzzword]+ individuals to ensure their global security/rights/identity outside of a US context and the b-roll you chose is from my city. I'm just starting to discover my identity. This feeling of loss I have, It all makes sense now.
@nicolevdh2 жыл бұрын
Hi Guthrie, I feel you! What a coincidence about the b-roll. :) I totally sympathize with you because I was there too. I hope you find a way out, or at least a way to deal with it all.

i thought it was not possible if you have a dutch passport to also have other passports?
@nicolevdh3 жыл бұрын
Almost correct. There are a few exceptions, such as if you're married to a Dutch person or if you acquired it at birth through your parents.

@@nicolevdh I have a dutch passport because i was born in the Netherlands, Im i allowed to have a 2nd passport from another country? thnx
@nicolevdh3 жыл бұрын
I'm not really qualified to give you advice on this, because I only researched my particular situation, which is different from yours (I acquired my citizenship through naturalization, not birth). Here's what the government says about situations where you can lose your Dutch citizenship: www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/nederlandse-nationaliteit/nederlandse-nationaliteit-verliezen/automatisch-verlies-van-de-nederlandse-nationaliteit

Hoarding privileges of citizenship while many don't get to fully enjoy 1 citizenship. 2 is great, 3+ is pushing it. People should have to pay tax to all the countries they hold citizenships of

Hey, how have you made to have credit approved for your mortagage in Portugal? I am brazilian and applying for a portuguese citizenship by descent and also work on IT field (not as a dev). I am planning moving to Europe, maybe not exactly to Portugal.

How were you able to keep your other passports as a citizen of the Netherlands? I was under the impression that they made you give up all other passports when becoming a citizen?
@nicolevdh2 жыл бұрын
There are a few exceptions to the rule. My exception was that my husband is a Dutch citizen. If you become a Dutch citizen and you are married to someone who is already a Dutch citizen, you don't lose your other citizenships.
@pinkpearl1967 Жыл бұрын
@@nicolevdh So basically you fell asz-backwards into your 2nd & 3rd citizenships. There was no strategy.

Philippines..."Third world impoverished country". The term itself is a pejorative. It's a lot more than that.
