NOTE: I fully understand that you all have different favorite spots (that I may not have been to), different understandings of what is nice and enjoyable and different experiences. That's why this is MY Top 5, with a little insight as to why. Chosen from the places I have been to. Could well be that I haven't been to your favorite place yet or I just didn't enjoy it as much as you did. So all this is based on my experiences and what I have seen. Enjoy your day 😉

Nico I am not even remotely good as you but, believe me, if you have the chance go there, you won’t regret it, best windsurfing of my life ever, then of course everybody has his own views and tastes and so on, anyway keep up the good work, peace man 🤙🏻💙🤙🏻

you should come to Saint Brevin , west France : the water is brown, there is a strong current here in the estuary of the Loire, the chop is gnarly, the waves are anarchic, and the sandbanks are often unpredictable...uhuhuh.. not for rookies (except at low tide behind the main sandbank)

You have to visit Pacasmayo, in Perú. Pancho Goya said that it is the windsurfer Disneyland. Look for the Kauli Seadi video at Pacasmayo. 3 minutes on the same wave.

Those Windsurfing actions shown from the Canaries were enjoyable and varied and proved that the waterways there are suitable for each grade of board also. The commentary was enjoyable and amusing too.

For beginners and up Soma Bay/Egypt @Surfmotion, which is on the opposite side of Robinson. Perfect Freeride place. My kids loved it and mastered 38kts. early on due to the flat water. Out of fashion but still a good plave is Carbarete. Wind comes perfectly sideshore and the reef is 800m out offering manageable waves for the not so experienced sailors. More wind in summer and more waves in winter. Get your own stuff there. Chrissie field/San Francisco is the place to start when you want to sail next to the Golden Gate Bridge made this a couple if times and it'S just very scenic. Wave spots such as Davenport are not too distant as well. Maui you mentioned so this is my personal top four list.

Personally for me I'd add to more spots: Soma Bay in Egypt : Really good hotels like Robinson Soma Bay with good rental material, most of the time sideshore wind and flat to choppy conditions. Wind statistics are also good. For beginners there's also (speaking of the Robinson station) a standing area and if you wanna go out they give you a GPS device so they can rescue you quickly. Brouwersdam in the Netherlands: Mostly flat water, good wind statistics and great parking situation at the spot. Also fast to reach from Germany. The dutch are also quite friendly people😂

I’m so glad the Outer Banks made the list. It was great meeting you when you were here. And it’s not always flat water here we do have waves. Ocean side and in the sound where you sailed. You just have to go a few miles out to the “Reef” as we call it where the flat meets the deep water. Usually a NW or SW wind works best for the reef.

Beautiful spots you highlight. SF Golden Gate bridge is gusty so bring a floaty board and large sail but enjoy the view. You might try South Sacramento river aka powerlines or Rio Vista. On an ebb tide you have yourself a mini hood river in the Bay Area with nice rollers, and a warm usually steady wind from June-Sept after 4pm.
@skipgonsalves81

Hood River is amazing, just a day's drive for me. You have beginner spots with schools, huge river swells & flat water off sand bars for slalom. Hood River is like a smooth skate park at times and it is warm most days. It is a beautiful area with plenty of non windsurfing activities and places to eat, but very little night life & zero rentals except for beginners so you have to bring your own gear. I'm surprised Tenerife didn't make your list. My family is from Hawaii but I prefer Tenerife over Hawaii, mainly because of the ease of rental gear & the fact that I get to explore a new culture vs. one that is very familiar to me.

@skipgonsalves81

I didn't say it was a great place for beginners, but it is more than adequate. The Hook is a good spot for beginner windsurfers & foilers while the Marina is an excellent spot for beginning windsurfers and not too bad for learning to foil either. The large sandbar with the big eddy it creates makes the Marina a great spot to teach.

Very cool video, enjoyed the ratings too. If I recall you didn't have much wind when you visited South Africa, and you only had like 2 weeks and the sun nailed you 🙂 Also remember, South Africa is not just Cape Town and Langebaan which is some 100 km apart. We have 2800 km of coast line, very few people ever venture out further. Happy sailing 😋

There’s windsurfing on Lake Biwa in Japan. Nothing crazy but you can windsurf the largest fresh water lake of a country and the area is beyond gorgeous, plus the food and easy transport to get there. Also, El Sargento in Baja Sur is a fantastic one, with plenty to see and do all around, like a brick smoke tower designed and built by Gustavo Eiffel himself.

Thanks Nico for The video. I would like to ask the following: Are you planning on having windsurf workshop vacations with you as a leader? ( similar to other operators) Off topic: We always see video about "how to rig". Could you show us what comes later? Especially now that season is getting closer to end. How do you "un-rig" , how do you preserve the equipment? how do you do it when you're on a van? how do you store in in the winter? how to avoid fungi etc? Thanks a lot.

These are all fine as "getaway" places to sail. But what if you want windsurfing to be just a normal part of life? Like you want to be able to work, spend time with family, have a night out, and be able to windsurf a lot too? San Francisco Bay Area is the place for you. There's tons of spots in the Bay and the Delta. You can sail under the Golden Gate Bridge. You can sail past Alcatraz, or by San Quentin, for you outlaws. You can sail by the old Candlestick Park site and fairly close to the Oakland Coliseum, if baseball is in. your blood. And you have alll the activities that the area has to offer, music, shows, museums, hiking, biking, sightseeing, wine country, international cuisine, skiing during the wintertime a few hours away. So you can sail maybe an hour, 90 minutes in the afternoon, and still have time and energy for a nice meal and a show in the evening, or you can catch a ballgame. There are windgauges all over the area, so you know exactly when and where it's blowing. No skunking. The Bay Area is internationally renowned WITHOUT windsurfing for its culture and setting. Add a windsport -- any one or two will do -- and it's just about perfect. The only thing is that it can be cold, except for the heart of summer until maybe September, so a wetsuit is necessary. I live in Honolulu, Hawaii, and I have a similar situation. We've got lots of city-like things to do here, but the beach is always there. I sail whenever I can -- so far this year we've had about a week on, week off pattern -- but if the wind is down I just go surfing. I see people who take a half-hour off during their lunch break, paddle out and catch a couple of waves, and that's it. That's all they need to get their fix. If I didn't live here in Hawaii, I'd live in the Bay Area.
