First test of my Snow Joe was a massive blizzard that dropped 20+ inches of snow with drifts well over 3ft. kzbin.infoUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN This snow thrower is definitely not designed for this much snow but it powered through it. We did have to knock down taller drifts with a shovel and at times the chute was awkward because snow banks were much higher than it could throw, but still much easier than shoveling. The plus side of the small size is the maneuverability. Easy to lift up to walkways and works in tight spaces near cars. Highly recommend.Note: after assembling it started but did not turn. The belt wasn't in place. Easy fix.

Great review! Now trying to choose between 162XW or 165W, seems the width is almost the same. I've tried to check how tall are you, and seems you're 188 (same as me). I guess both are good for weight around 85kg. Why did you choose 162XW over 165W?

Hi Malcolm. Just would like to know your opinion: about a couple of years I bought the escape 156L with positive camber, I come from a 154 beginner camrock snowboard and the escape I found a bit hard and scary to make turns… now I see nidecker have this new model with camrock shape… Do you think will be better for me to change it? My level is intermediate with some bad habits that I have to correct. Greetings from Switzerland and thank you very much for your videos!

Alpe d'huez is a high altitude resort. So yes, it snows, not a lot but the snow stays. The problem is with low altitude ski resorts. Even if it snows, either is not enough to pass with the groomer, either it is melting too fast because of high temperatures

I actually got this board yesterday and tried it out at my local snowdome for the first time. Coming from the Nidecker Merc (Beginner/Intermediate board) which I picked up in November when I was in lessons I thought the Nidecker Escape would be a good upgrade having ridden for a few months now. First run down doing a toeside to heelside turn, the board gets to where it's pointing straight down the fall line, then it just wouldn't turn any more which was a bit of a code brown moment. It got a bit better during my two hour session but found that I had to be quite aggressive with it to turn it. I suspect it's also highlighted an issue with my riding where pointing straight down the hill I've got too much weight on my back foot making my knee steering ineffective. My older board I suspect was a bit more forgiving in this respect. Still, quite a shock coming from my Nidecker Merc, I kind of assumed that they wouldn't be that different given that they are both CamRock profiles (Escape is less so) and the Escape is only slightly stiffer (at least according to Nidecker).
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore Жыл бұрын
Good insight, I was also surprised when I went from the escape to the thruster, I though the thruster would be even stiffer but I found it less so! Im actually getting back on the escape for some glacier riding next week.

Hello. Are you sure it's camrock? I saw this board in the store and wanted to buy it, but it seemed to me that this is a pure camber. Can you recommend 162w for a weight of 90kg? (us11 boots)
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore Жыл бұрын
Yeah you're in the right weight range, the escape plus is full camber and this does have a little bit of rocker but that doesn't mean it's in any way a forgiving lazy ride. If you want piste and pow mainly then it's a great board. It's good on jumps and going fast, but riding slower and jibbing around isn't it's strong point.

Hi Malcolm, I was considering this board to progress with carving and was happy to see you reviewing it. Could you please write what your body weight is to get the full picture of its responsivness? Relying on nidecker size chart, the width I want from it doesn't correspond to my weight, so I'm a bit hesitant if I can be like 4 kilo lighter than their recommended weight.

@malcolmmoore Жыл бұрын
I'm 85kgs, I've since tried the nidecker thruster which is very good for carving. The 162w isn't quite as wide as the 162xw on the escape, but I can do everything apart from fully laid out carves on it

@@malcolmmoore Interesting. I demoed the Thruster recently and meant to try the Escape series, but didn't get to it. The Thruster has a fairly significant tip spoon 3D contour, which I don't think the Escapes have? Which of them would you say has the best edge hold on firmer groomer days? BTW, my wife and I enjoy your videos. You are the best at breaking down skills step by step.

I was feeling exactly the same earlier this season. I was riding my Dancehaul a lot, and also a longer board sometimes, but wanted something like the Dancehaul that’s a little more all mountain, something like the dancehaul with a little longer of a tail. So I came across the XW version of the escape and the K2 passport. The 162 escape XW with a 272 waist width sounded much better than the 266 waist width on the 162 W escape, which is already wider than other 162 W boards. I ended up deciding on the K2 passport 162W with a 269 waist width. And let me tell you, the K2 passport is awesome. So if you get a chance to demo the K2 passport, I highly recommend it. And I just may end up picking up an escape 162 XW next season if they keep it the same as this season’s, or I’ll just pick up another K2 passport after I destroy the one I have now. Anyways, I really enjoy your content. I like the shout out you gave to AngrySnowboarder, that dude is a legend when it comes to the honest and accurate product reviews.

Hey Nacho, I was on the exact same path and chose the passport over the escape. I just found the base a bit slower (I have a graphite base on my pow board) so at this moment I am having the base structured for next week's spring slush. I love the passport so much, however still curious about the escape. Did you end up trying it/ buying it / comparing it? I must say I can't think of anything but that base that I don't like about the passport. Still have to take it to features in the park but think it will do okay...

Hey Malcolm, video suggestion: Edge sharpening and esdge detunning. Important questions: i) will detunning the contact points and sharpening edges decrease one's chances of catching edges? ii) what are the best ways to keep your edges sharp? iii) what are the best tools?
@fartman10284
@fartman10284 9 ай бұрын
I found my escape 156 a little catchy in the rear in the rough crud on groomers...and led to a concussion. 1) You're just detuning the shovel edges, but not the contact points. 2) for maintenance, you just need diamond stones. For detuning, you need a rougher file, and then use a diamond stone to clean up the edge you cut. 3) File guide (base and side edge specific or multi-edge tool), bastard file for guide and diamond stones. The Willi Wiltz videos for edge tuning are good videos.
