I started watching this show with my girlfriend (rewatch for me, first time for her), and at one point she commented on nie huaisang being the “comic relief character” and I had to try so hard not to tell her how important he is 😂

It actually doesn't come out until AFTER the man who murdered his brother was stabbed, he puts it together literally moments before he dies. Nie Huaisang is an amazing character and one of my favorites. Two of my favorite videos about him are "Don't Make Me - Nie Huaisang By mortal_sarah" and "Start a War | The Untamed | 陈情令 By: ifshehadwing": which is more of an ensemble video.

Great reaction. I didn't pick up on Nie Huaisang being the mastermind behind everything until near the end of the show. It was interesting on further rewatches how you can see the hints and clues that were there all the time. Most of the clips here are from the spin-off movie about the Nie brothers - 'Fatal Journey'. It actually has my all-time favourite final shot of any movie I've seen. It's where Huaisang bows deeply to Jin Guangyao and glances up at him... that's the moment when he realises what's been done to his brother and he starts to plot his revenge.

Nie Huaisang is the Untamed’s Kaiser Sose, right down to the early revelation of his presence behind the curtain in the first episode. ( honestly it took three viewings of the series for me to catch this) 🫢 He had no appetite for his Family’s fierce Butcher turned warrior’s traditions. He collected Erotic books because of the art as well as the content. He is clear about his motivation. One of the scenes that points to his feelings was his reaction to WeiWuxian’s praise of the art work on his fan- when they were boys Wei dismissed. And although we were supposed to believe Nie Hiaisang thought Xian was Mo, he was moved by the praise. Hiaisang lived in a society and belonged to a family where intelligence and masculinity was measured through the cultivating the way of the Sword, but his interest was poetry, and art , good friendship. However, mess with his family and beloved friends…😱

Nie Huaisang is probably one of my favorite characters in The Untamed (which is saying a lot for a show where I love all the characters I'm supposed to). He's a character you don't really see as anything other than comic relief until the last 2 episodes, then looking back you appreciate everything a lot more.

He is what makes the show re-watchable. You go back through the whole thing just to catch the hints that you missed. The moments when the camera is on him specifically

The way his story was set up in the drama was absolutely brilliant. I wasn't surprised at all by the reveal that he was the mastermind because I had read the novel before I watched the show, but my sisters jaw dropped. They didn't really show it in the edit, but in the final scene were he picks up the hat, he gets some blood on his fingers, which is so incredibly symbolic because even though he didn't personally kill anyone himself, their blood was still on his hands.

The first time I watched the Untamed, I had no idea what the story was about so in the last episodes when they revealed he had a hand in so many clues that were given to the main characters to figure out the murder mystery of his older brother...bro I had a stroke ong. Because there was a certain detail that I remembered in EPISODE ONE. Nie Huaisang is known for holding a beautiful fan. In the first episode, a storyteller is telling the story of Wei Wuxian to the disciples on the Lan Clan and there's a man behind a screen, holding a fan and listening. I freaked out. I had no idea he'd been there all along. The reason he was there was because he was paying the storyteller to tell stories of Wei Wuxian so Lan Wangji would be drawn to the area, since he'd been looking for him for over a decade now. And then he set up this whole thing where both the reincarnated Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were to meet again and get dragged into figuring out a murder mystery. The plot wouldn't exist without him so many in the fandom call him Director Nie.

I think it’s a cliche bcs it’s like that irl. Like my personality and my older sister’s personalities are like the cliche. I have a more bright and energetic personality while my older sister is very quiet and reserved. So she was always the more serious sibling while i was always the one that was dismissed as the trouble maker. I think it’s just the culture and expectations parents have for the eldest child that has this sort of outcome. Unfortunately what happened with my family and others is that more often than not those expectations become too much pressure and the eldest child gets crushed underneath it and it’s left to the second to pick up the pieces and is the one who gets those expectations put onto them.

If I never saw this side of the story of the deep love between these two brothers, I WOULD HAVE MISSED A LOT!!! I'm glad I found it quickly, actually, when it first came out, along with the other one the story of The Ghost General, and the one Lan Wanji raised!! Both great. I wish they would continue, I'd love to see the episodes I find hardest to watch with the daoist priest in white and the one in brown. (Lost his sight) And the girl who pretended to be blind along with that very evil, EVIL guy! I literally cried, I mean a LOT!!! THAT story I'm waiting for. ( They're names are hard to remember) But my God, great stories left unsaid. And your pausing doesn't bother. I forget a lot I want to say too Obviously...😂 But I love you reactions!! Don't stop!!! Great, Great Job!!!! And the novels (5 all together) are WAAAAAAY more detailed. So much more going one, way more bloody, shockingly so. And the love scenes, ✨🌹👌
