Gade was a close friend of Schumann and Mendelssohn. This can beclearly heard in the present stphony. But for sure, Gade was a great composer, with a voice of his own. These influences are completely assimilated into a personality of his own. There are, of course, similarities with the two first symphonies, but also signs of an evolution. This symphony is a great romantic work written by a great musician.These symphonies should be played from tile to time together with his friend's ones. Our conductors and concert managers are too conservative? The salme applies to chamber music. His 4 fantasiestucke for clarinet and piano are by no ways inferior to Schuamm"s, and havinbg the two sets played ina piano/clarinet concert would simply be so great!.

Besides the superb symphony, from where did the art come? Yes, for obvious reasons (liking good music and persons who post it), I am subscribed to your site(s).

Personally I find the "art" has no relationship with the music, and I usually scroll the picture out of view.

@Bergsman100 I am now subscribed to a streaming service (Idagio) and have dropped youtube listening to a large extent, because of the large choice of works on the paying service.

Symphonies 1, 2, 3, & 5 from Gade are suberb ! Thanks KuhlauDilfeng2. Any chance of a studio recording of No. 4 & and one of No.2 without the horse & cart sound effects ?
@KuhlauDilfeng210 жыл бұрын
Sure thing but they are with Neeme Järvi as conductor instead.

Go for Schonwandt instead!

I hear a lot of Mendelssohn here.
@gerardbegni28066 жыл бұрын
Much Schumann indeed. Mendelssohn is often more superficial. What is inherited from Mendelssohn is the orchestral writing.
@gerardbegni28066 жыл бұрын
It is true. Gade was influenced by Mendelssohn and Schumann. But he had a personality of his own.
@ruramikael5 жыл бұрын
@@gerardbegni2806 Yes, here is a 1st movement with hints of A major trying to break thorugh the A minor tonality. And a clarinet solo towards end. Also the 3rd movement is very original, like a sad Scandinavian Minuet.

Has anybody got a score for this symphony?
@gerardbegni28066 жыл бұрын
The score is not in IMSLP. They have symphonies 2 and 4, not 3.
@ruramikael5 жыл бұрын
@@gerardbegni2806 exactly, only piano four hands is available (and movements 2 and 3 for piano 2 hands)

I can share the rest of the Schönwandt recordings, Jaarvi 's are not up to the same level.
