Thank you so much for seeking to understand more of this unique band. To address some of the points you raise: Most of the students have been dreaming of joining the band for years, many since elementary school. They will have seen the videos and TV programmes, including the very one you are reviewing here! Some will have alumni siblings. So they know what to expect and are highly motivated. As a result, very few drop out, maybe a couple a year. You note that there are many new students. 2012 was the year when the band greatly increased in size, with the highest ever number of 1st years relative to seniors. Training was more intense as a result. The formal hierarchical relationship between juniors and seniors is now more relaxed than back then. The tearful cymbalist we see became a confident and competent percussionist. Here she is at the time of her graduation at a demonstration performance. She is one of the two snare drummers who move forward at the start of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5OVlH6NmMeZr5o . This year, she joined an alumni group called O-VILS that carries on the Kyoto Tachibana style.

It is the students themselves, not anyone else, who maintain the phenomenal performance of Kyoto Tachibana. The junior high school students who admire and become enthusiastic fans of Kyoto Tachibana come to the school with their own aspirations. As you may already know, there are no.1 and no.2 before this no.3 video, so I will introduce them to you. "From Journey of brass band 2011 Focus in Kyoto Tachibana 1 (with English subtitles)" kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqKwoIptiKakobc "From Journey of brass band 2012 Focus in Kyoto Tachibana 2 (with English subtitles)" kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4Gsq62OnbWmeNE Every year, this TV program closely follows several high school brass bands in Japan. In 2011 and 2012, Kyoto Tachibana was the focus of the program, with the first broadcast in 2011 being Video 1, and the second and third in 2012 being Video 2 and 3.
