Kwaku Thanks a lot for your explanation, I've been taking Nifedipine for 10 years 5mg in the morning and 5 mg in the evening. when I moved surgery and my Medication was reviewed the Doctor recommended 10 mg once a day. 3 months later after the nurse carried out a test it was increased to 20 mg a day. since then every thing you said about the side effect made since. it took me a year to realize that all the adverse effects you mentioned was as a result of being prescribe 20 mg of nifedipine at 61 years.

Tge 1st time i took it i had most if the. Side effects. .its been over a year. And started again yesterday. So far no headache or balance issues. Pray it works

Very interesting. I take 30mg for Raynaud's and noticed this year I have been feeling weak. I thought it was because of the change in seasons and that I was catching a cold but it correlates with the cold weather and taking this prescription. Thank you for a great video :)

What I can tell you is that although this medication works well for it’s prescribed purpose after taking it for five years it is causing chronic muscle pain in my mid back and neck I went off it twice for three days each time and the pain went when not taking it but returned within hours after restarting so I’m trying to find a suitable replacement.

I'm with you on this symptoms likewise. I notice muscle pain all over especially when I do exercises, it's complicated to do exercises and feel super sore than usual taking Adalat. I got slight swelling in hands and ankles off and on, but lots of swelling in the abdominal area 👎🏽 like your seriously bloating badly. Took for about 5-6monts and asked to be taken off because of these symptoms though it helped to lower the BP.

KayKay. Hang in there I just got off Nifefipine after 4 years because of the swelling. It worked well for me but then I got a concerning cough. Any new med is going to take an adjustment phase of about 2 weeks or more. I'm having new side affects from my new prescription (ugh). It's scary but I've been through it before. Take your blood pressure daily so that you will have data for your doctor.

I was put on 30mg once a day my feet and ankles swell so I cut the pill in half and my blood pressure is the same as if I was taking 30mg and i don’t swell as much, is taking half a doze acceptable?

I'm curious as to whether this medication causes dependence in that once on it for a certain amount of time you have a rebound effect if you go off it and prevents your body from controlling blood pressure without it.

I probably won’t call it dependence, but you are right in saying that discontinuing most blood pressure medications (nifedipine included) abruptly, can lead to a rebound increase in BP. It is generally recommended to taper or in some cases replace with a different medication if you have to go of your current one.

Amlodipine is scary too. It caused all my legs, ankles and feet to swell up, I was constantly in pain. Then the doctor put me on losartan which stopped the swelling but had other side effects such as dangerous for women of childbearing age, as it can cause so many complications to the unborn child. Now I’m going to try Nifedipine next week wish me luck. I’m praying that this medication won’t give me trouble 🙏🏽
