If we hold another vote before the first vote has been honoured, then we are not democratic. If we are forced to remain in the EU, then we are not sovereign. For the retards who think this is a brilliant idea, then heed John F. Kennedy's words: “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

1. The message on the side of the bus was the campaign that Nigel was not a member of. It was 'Vote leave', led by Boris Johnson. 2. The message on the bus was "let's spend it on the NHS." As it was neither a promise nor a statement of intent, it cannot be a lie. It was a suggestion.

I think we need to see a draft treaty from Nigel Farage. The problem with the referendum is it asked an idealistic question with no detail on how it would be implemented. Now there are multiple versions of what that could be, and everyone is claiming that their version is the 'will of the people'. Give us a draft treaty and ask the people again what they want!

Would this mess not be sorted if the "Brexit means Brexit" team published a paper stating the exact way things would work if they did the negotiations? I for one would be willing to consider it. Then we can take this to the EU and say these are our negotiation points. But at the moment we just have opposition to the tabled plan and no alternative.

Interesting that when they want to offer a 2nd Referendum they never present the idea of a vote between these 2 things: May's Deal or No Deal. However, no one's suggesting that because it's not the answer or solution they want. That's what a 2nd referendum should be asking, not the same question again. So if people vote Brexit again, what then? Then they are back to square one. Brexit was democratically decided. The only question is how to go about it now. End of discussion.

@@ravd8082 This is what happens when people trust a snake oil salesman who doesn't even understand basic economics and an electorate who is so ill-informed and narcissistic, that they believe they know better than people who have been studying this for most of their lives. Brexit has destroyed British business, not European ones, farmers are struggling to cope, Lorry drivers are up to their neck with paperwork, it has also shrunk our economy by 4% wiping away £100bn a year. Nigel never detailed how Brexit would work, he never had a plan for it, so many Brexiteers had their own version of Brexit and they all said the same thing, "its the will of the people". Yet here we are now, where most people who voted for Brexit are regretting it.

Previously when these two argued Farage shouted all over Campbell. Farage said "countries were queuing up, queuing up to give Britain trade deals" . That was two years ago. Since then, all the major trading countries and most minor ones have said they will not be offering the UK trade agreements until the UK has settled it's position with Europe, our easily largest trading partners. Trade consultants and diplomats say this would take easily 7 years and is far more complicated than the withdrawal agreement which is incomplete after 3 years. Noe of this is sustainable.

The reason the government and parliament cannot sort this out is because the Prime Minister doesn't want to leave the EU, and the majority of MPs don't want to leave the EU (480 out of 650 MPs for remaining). How can you expect people that don't believe in leaving the EU and being an independent country to negotiate a withdrawal? The only way this will be sorted is by the people voting in MPs that reflect their views on this, which in turn would create a parliament that reflects the views of the country. Trying to sort this out through referendums is not going to work. The problem with all that is that both the Con and Lab parties have both supported EU membership for the past 50 years. Voters haven't had a choice of being in or out of it. MPs are incapable of representing the public's views on this. Our democracy is a sham, and that is a very dangerous situation.

The EU is not keeping you in. It's the UK that's shitting its collective pants. Look at the rest of Europe, they don't give a toss about brexit. It's in the newspapers maybe once a month maximum. From the Very beginning, it's a national issue, from the poverty and inequality, to the Tories in-fighting, GE, and now today. All inside the UK. The rest of the EU does not care anymore. You can leave anytime you want. You won, get over it and go away.

@@brezhou29 The EU very much is keeping Britain in. They refuse to create or agree a plan to deal with Brexit to ensure everything runs smoothly. Britain is trying to ensure that EU nations aren't unnecessarily disturbed by their leaving. You know you're living in an authoritarian state when a foreign nation cares more about you than your own government.

@@brezhou29 Basically UK has been trying to negotiate for a few protections for EU citizens in the UK and for UK citizens abroad so that no one is left stranded causing some bureaucratic nonsense impacting movement. Secondly they want a continuation of current trading rules until trade negotiations are completed, so as to not negatively affect trade. The UK is the 5th largest economy after all. The problem is that the EU will only allow this if the UK is willing to fork out large payments to the EU and remain subordinate to the European Court of Justice among other nonsense, even though both wants are mutually beneficial. The EU is willing to hurt their own to get at Britain. As for Ireland, the border is currently ordained by treaty between the UK and the Republic of Ireland, see The Good Friday Agreement. Should the EU interfere (which they wish to do in the case of a no deal scenario) they will be directly interfering in the business of two sovereign nations. This is why many people see the EU as tyrannical and authoritarian since they can control the actions of supposedly independent states. EU nations are vassals. This is why Britain wants to leave.

I'm just a dumb 28 year old single issue voter, but I thought the message was quite implicit when we voted. Leave - We'll leave the EU and be an independent country. Pick your favourite example, "Norway"? Interesting interpretation of "independent". Remain - we will continue our agreement with the EU and attempt to air any grievances through the EU process. When I voted, I was expecting a relationship to the EU similar to that of Switzerland, or the US, or China or Russia, with a soft trade border due to common land and interests

Sure there is, if you don't export or import anything and are completely self reliant you could walk away today. The problem is the UK like most countries is very dependent on trade. If you walk away without trade agreements you'll bankrupt the country and if you want to keep the current agreements (and thus access to the EU single market) you need to abide with said agreements and all the obligations that that entails. What Nigel is proposing is simply unattainable for the UK as it's not in a position of power, you can't enforce the rest of the world to abide with *YOUR* demands unilaterally so you either stick with the EU, take the current deal or go bankrupt.

@Stefan SladeA People's Vote is democracy by definition.
@ulyaoth86
@ulyaoth86 5 жыл бұрын
@Stefan SladeA People's Vote is not simply rerunning the 2016 referendum, it's the only democratic solution to resolve the impasse that we are in. We were never asked on what terms we would be leaving the EU. What we are facing now is the choice between a terrible deal which is already dead in the water or crashing out with no deal and all the carnage that that entails. That was nothing like the fantasy that was offered to the British public in 2016 - in fact, we were told we'd get an amazing deal, that we hold all the cards and would have the 'easiest deal in history'. Given the stakes for future of our country, it's only right that the British people should have the final say - if that means we choose to leave without a deal, then so be it. However, I think it's highly likely that more people would prefer to remain, which is of course the real reason why Brexiteers are so against the idea - they know they will probably lose. As David Davis said, if a democracy cannot be allowed to change its mind, it ceases to be a democracy.

@Stefan SladeMight I remind you that in a democracy, just because one side narrowly lost a vote three years ago, that does not mean we don't have the right to keep making the argument. I find it ironic that you talk about humility and grace, while spouting insults and continuously shouting 'you lost' in capital letters, surely weakening any intellectual authority. If you cannot be respectful in this debate, I won't waste any more time with you.
