I’m Filipino and we ate what we had for dinner, for breakfast. We ate leftovers portioned, with scrambled eggs and rice. We’d have fried fish sitting in the middle of the table covered by a caulander or in the microwave. It’s iffy eating breakfast in a full-house of homie Asian family members; the hard working kind; whatever comes natural is what’s for breakfast. In a Filipino house, they cook a dish that will last for a week, every day there was leftovers; when we weren’t poor anymore. I miss it.

Loved this episode re MSG: related to a story about headaches and eating at chinese restaurants in the 70's, led to a "viral" set of hands in the air. virtually every processed food contains MSG, but under different names Dr. Bronners Amino Acids- MSG Accent Meat tenderizer- straight up MSG Modified vegetable starch in every snack food- MSG used to bad mouth Asian food in general, and coded low ball slander what kinds of foods go into Asian cuisines

I haven't been able to keep up with Uncle Roger/Nigel Ng since he blew up. He's too bingeworthy. This was such a good podcast. I'm happy to discover this channel as well. Y'all made me laughed a lot and I truly needed those laughs today!! I don't know everyone's names yet but the female podcaster mentioned about white men's stomachs being weak and I have to nominate that observation. It's truly a mystery. Why is that? hehehe.

To be honest, I don't think uncle Roger is in the position to comment on English/UK food and culture, he wasn't born or brought up here. They asked what's his favourite English food, he said pasta????? Pasta is Italian dude! English food there is pie and mash, bangers and mash, beef Wellington etc. No disrespect to Roger but he does lack understanding on British culture. Am British born Chinese Viet by the way😉
@CptNemo-l3s2 жыл бұрын
Why not? Pasta is the most popular home cooked dish in the UK because it's easy (and probably came out of a jar anyway - Dolmio). Why do you need to be born here to have an opinion on the food? That's weird. Anyway, he was being sarcastic - which is the most British thing ever. Maybe there's some of that post-colonial angst towards Jamie Olive Oil and his disrespect for anything other than Western cuisine. As a British Chinese, I agree with him, wtf was that fried rice shit?

I grew up feeling like I don't belong anywhere. I'm an adopted Korean American who grew up with white people since 6 months old. Always have struggled with identity and would rather not move to places like LA or NY just to fee like I somewhat fit in. So I think you guys have a different perspective because you grew up with a bunch of Asians or had lots of Asian friends growing up. I grew up in bum f**k Iowa. Literally no Asians. So before yall go bully Asians who say they struggle with identity, maybe broaden your mind a bit and understand not all Asians grew up like you.

Uncle Roger: Hai Ya / Fui Yoh !; a Korean Woman's name could also be Esther Ku ("Girl Code"); a comic. That Uncle Roger character is so Good; "Asian food in Britain..." kinda like a "social justice" warrior/troll, with some "repressed anger" ! Hilarious.. I loved the Jamie Oliver "Fried Rice" video and the Response to it ("Mixed Reviews..."). Chef Gordon Ramsay cooking "Spicy Fried Rice" (Nasi Goreng) with woks, outdoors, to a Indonesian priest was fun. KL: Kuala Lumpur is a dope place and a great travel hub/venue (in South East Asia). Nasi Lemak (rice, coconut and pandan leaf); Bali's Babi Guling (Suckling Pig, like a Filipino "Lechon" or Chicharrones (think of Bakenets' Pork Rinds: regular or spicy): Ooh. I have never tried "Uncle Ben's" instant rice; usually, I use either: Diamond G and Hinode (two favorite Hawaii brands); I like (Thai (land) Jasmine rice too: I like how People cook Rice, in the Rice Cooker, using the tried and true "Finger method."
@kshinokevin2 жыл бұрын
the "Black Dude" was Korean; Cool. Dumb's "Elite White Chef" roundtable scenario sounds kinda scary... "Ajinomoto" and HonDashi = MSG; for the U.S./"Caucasian" crowd: it is "chicken/beef/pork" boullion (it is French for "broth") cubes. I have heard of the phrase "Asian Fusion" before... Drunk food: there is a Chinese dish that is called "Drunken Noodles" (aka Pad Kee Mao)... Sambal sounds great: it smells like hot sauce/spices. Filipino Spaghetti uses Ketchup and Hot Dogs; less spicy than the usual Italian version. Bento Boxes are the Best.. "Does Representation Matter ?" - Dumbfoundead "The Malaysian plane is still in there." "They eat @$$, but they don't eat Pork." - Oh Crap, that was Brutal... "Everything is Shared (Korean BBQ)." / "Family Style (with 32 bowls of Ban Chan)." Yup... I love H-Mart : Yes ! "I'm not giving a Dollar to a Nigel." - Dumb Drinking Egg Coffee in Vietnam was great; I have never tried the Swedish (egg) coffee yet. Lyricks (the Yellow T-shirt Guy): Parents took off the Expiration Date -- Wow; Lactose Intolerance sucks. Pickled Stuff is Always Good.. if they are impatient, the person would be like: "Come On, Hurry Up already: ferment." Fish Sauce on Rice: I love that (shrimp paste or anchovies) stuff ! the "Kim's Convenience" store TV show : it should have lasted longer; Sad. Ronnie Chieng (from "the Daily Show with Trevor Noah") is hilarious too, man..
