Replace the Fuel Tank, CHECK!
Replace the Fuel Sending unit, CHECK!
Replace the Fuel Pump, CHECK!
Rebuild the Carb, CHECK!
Clean the Fuel Lines?....... Nope
Well that was the issue I think. in this video I go through trouble shooting a rough idling DCOE, and discuss how to determine the best jet configuration for your MGB.

Y I suggest disconnecting the fuel line prior to entering the fuel filter and after the fuel pump. Spray a good amount of carburator cleaning spray down the fuel line from the engine bay. Have a container to catch the spray and the debris that exit the line. I also recommend installing a fuel pump kill switch to shut off the fuel when done driving for the day of for storage. These modern fuels (Especially here in Commifornia) have a lot of nasty additives that the old carburators don't like. They have a tendency to clog jets and leave a residue in the carburator bowl. I do this with all my MGBs.

12:45 You show in your video the recommended parts when you select "calculate for flexibility". Have you also selected "calculate for power", to see whether that would give different results?

Yeah. Actually I have ordered a slightly different combination of parts. Near the top of that output page the choke is changeable. I went through a number of iterations before I came to the config I settled on. I will go through it next week

Alex….in hindsight, would you recommend replacing all of the fuel lines from the pump to the carburetor including the hard lines? If not, how would you recommend they be cleaned to avoid what unfortunately happened? Thanks for your reply and I hope that you get your situation sorted!😊

Well, I don't think it was necessary to remove the lines. Just might have been a good idea to at least make an attempt to back flush the line prior to first run. Another commenter suggested running carb cleaner backwards through the line. That sounds like good advice. I hope this video helps someone else the trouble. But at least it gave me cause to evaluate the carb jetting.

@@AlexPlatacis point well taken. If I don’t replace my hard fuel lines , I will attempt to clean them before starting the car. Thank you for the reply.

Maybe the Webers are better left on the patio for grilling. SUs are another solution.

LOL... yeah, I have a pair of those. The thing I like about the Webers is that you can define your power curve. My next video I plan on doing for this covers that topic. The SU is more tuned for mileage and emissions. I know there is a bit of a divide in the MGB community about the carb choice. My MGB has what I consider the best of all the years, it's a 77 with 74 head(large intake valves, no cat, Chrome bumper, and tail lights from a 69 among other things. so I am far from a purist.

I use the down draft model. I've had no issues with one I've run for over 25 years.

@@AlexPlatacis I also use the zenith- stromberg on the california smog MGBs and on my 71 MGB I use a new pair of SU carbs. Once tuned she runs like a top once it reaches normal operating temp. My 68 MGB I have the down draft Webber with the stock electric choke runs great cold.

I jest about the Weber as I have one on the shelf jealously not installed , but need the Zenith on my '78 as well for California smog. Even with diminished HP, still a fun ride.
