They were not running for their lives as a last resort. They thought that the rest of the team was just up ahead (facing right to the vehicle) and that they could run and re unite to them and then escape. This is where they were wrong, because the other guys had sped off after maneuvering past the red smoke grenades. They ran for about 30-40 seconds before Jeremiah was struck and downed, and then Dwight.

@@MegaMapper Its less about respecting the Military as a Whole and more about respecting their Families. You don't have to respect the Military at all. But you should at least have the decency to understand that the people who died had families and loved ones. People who have had something ripped out of their lives. If you are lucky you will never have to experience something like it. But imagine how much love and compassion their loved ones have had for them. Then imagine them getting their loved ones ripped apart. The worst part is not knowing how it happened. People should have the decency to understand and not to make fun or talk bad upon the people who died. If you do you are a wretched person. I personally am against most Military Action. I think the biggest mistake was entrusting the local militia in staying to fight, they lost because the thickness of fire was too overwhelming. Their job there initially was to train and aid the local militia, but in any asshole of the world you don’t trust militia as what we see can result. It would have saved them if they could get air or ground support, if that’s what you are talking about.

Only thing I couldn't get was why the 2 berets who were walking alongside the SUV didn't just jump in and take off.
@josephyang49976 жыл бұрын
From the other side of the vehicle they had better concealment/cover from the enemy. It also might have been hard to get into the vehicle under enemy fire. I think they made a choice that is was better to suppress enemy fire by continually firing on them, instead of trying to haul ass out of there. It was a terribly difficult situation in any case. As soon as they were separated their options became limited.

The SUVs were not armoured and were taking an insane amount of small arms fire by the time the call was made to withdraw. You can see them struggling to get in the vehicle during the ambush vid. Dustin Wright had to lie down and use his hands to manoeuvre the pedals whilst rounds hit the dashboard of the SUV. When Black was shot and killed you can see the SUV roll back as Wright jumps out to pull black behind to check his vitals. It’s pretty clear they had no chance at that point in jumping in and booking it. The Vehicle was being turned to cheese. They could only use it as a defensive cover until they were forced to book it on foot. They recovered the SUV later and there are pictures online of the damage it took.

Let me preface by saying i've never been in combat (outside of a cage). I believe that the fog of war, uncertainty, and tunnel vision are something that the average Joe (or even guys with experience) can't fathom. These guys did quite well considering the circumstances. I can't imagine what that was like for them. People who feel entitled to criticize others (who usually aren't experienced) are a dime a dozen. Any 15 year old with a computer that mom bought can imagine an ideal scenario in hindsight or from afar. It's pure fantasy, and because they'll likely never experience combat they'll never know how disgustingly entitled they are to make such criticisms.

Thank you for this video. I’ve listened to the Danger Close podcast with Andy Stumpf and the widow of Staff Sergeant Black. The fact that that the US military considered then as gung ho and without clearance is saddening. The US command knew of a build up of troops in that area and did nothing to combat the threat posed by the enemy. These brave men gave their all and their sacrifice at the lying bureaucracy of government tarnishes their memory. That is unforgivable.
