Dr Akin is absolutely right. We must dismantle unproductive 36 states structure. The oil money is no more. The earlier we stop depending on Niger Delta oil the better for us. The 36 states bureaucracy is unviable. We need to go to work now or we all die of hunger. 6 geopolitical zones must now to into: agriculture and Agro processing, manufacturing, mining and processing, SMEs, export and creating industries. The civil services of 36 unviable states must be dismantle to small 6 geopolitical zones. We don't need large civil service in this digital age. Dr Akin deserve a national award . This is the solution.

He has been speaking for over 20 years. He even rejected government appointments in the past due to his level of integrity. The question is if those leading us now will listen. Our politicians need strategic support on how to change the situation as we speak, but pride will not let them. Why reject a document that can help you with ideas. We all need to support him by talking about this document until our government sees the need to consider it. Olusola Aluko

I love this man and I love that I have to get past his accent and local way of expressing himself. It's high time we gather around sense making elders like this. I have always told people that Nigeria is poor by all means but we are so sentimental to think of potentials. They had to shut him down when he started speaking bluntly. Nigerians pretending that we are united the same way pastors will see someone they can't heal and give the person hope that it is well. Let's speak truth to ourselves, be honest, and use our "head"

Common sense demands that in a highly diversified entity like Nigeria it is only wise and discretional to orderly define boundaries and jurisdictions by way of regional restructuring for easy coordination and proper competitive contributions via governance to the overall good and betterment of the people, which is the main subject of the matter....

Basic question_ Can Nigeria continue with this bloated government structure in face of dwindling resources?.Of course no. We can start with collapsing our state legislature to six geopolitical legislative houses and just one legislative house at the centre. This will reduce the cost of governance tremendously . But will restructuring also address the thorny issues of corruption, electoral fraud, impunity and lopsided rule of law?

@@ayenia2736 unchecked lies. Listen bro pick up your history books. The termed Ibo coup was brain child of the western region devised to release Awolowo from prison. Even when Aguiyi Ironsi took over as the head of state he practiced Regional system of government. It was when Gowon took over that he abolished regions, created states and made the centre powerful, then he and Ojukwu went to Ghana, where Aburi mediated thus the term Aburi accord. Only for the two to return for our western brothers and northern elites persuaded him to renege. Ojukwu told them on Aburi we stand. Listen, truth is factual, truth is straight. Ibo man no do una anything. You guys has been deceived by your elites to loot this country dry. I will suggest pick your history books, read as many as you can. After the Nigerian civil war, Nigeria has never progressed. So all of us in this together. We go remain one Nigeria forever.

@@ayenia2736 The land mass is the east was carved to restrict the actual land mass. Igbos are in Kogi, Delta, Benue, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River. In fact the northern half of cross River are Igbos. The recent fight between Wike and Fubara is that the Opobo people were warned by Wike not to speak Igbo to which they Ignored. But even the dot in the circle is now a gem full of oil and gas. Had it been known that Imo would have had the largest gas in West Africa, most Imo land mass would have been ceded to Rivers, just as half of Egbema, Ohaji and Obigbo full in oil were fraudulently ceded to Rivers. Who knew that oil and gas found Igbo people even though the propaganda was Igbo people want their oil?

Another angle to this is the fact that states and local government do not have full autonomy. If the subregions especially the local government was autonomous, we will not have concerns regarding issues like this. Because there is no arm of government that is closer to the people than the local, but the local has been subjected to the state, and the states to a small degree subjected to the federal. That is why we are not seeing any change or progress

In 1980 to 1983 the value of Naira was higher than dollar in fact, Naira was competing with pounds because Nigeria was operating regional government. Where all the regions were contributing to the centre. If we can go back to such system Nigeria will be better. I am always saying let's go back to what ever it was that was working for us then simple.

i dont think this regionalsm will favour ethnic minorities within regions.... According to the speaker europe faught for there identity however europe is still united as europe... The description of europe as a continent is actually a mirage compared with the size and population of Nigeria; it can also be described as a continent in its own right.... However our states have to a fairly large extent defined our ethnic similarities and if states want on their own free will to merge they should do so... Devovle power to the states and allow them to merge if the so choose... Forcing an entire region based on ethnicity like in during independence will only bring more ethnic tensions

in europe, local goverment and regional goevernment control even immigration and has autonomy to do so. for example in germany, if you need a visa other than a visiting visa which is not renewable, the embassy is only a collation centre, the city you are going approves or rejects the visa. If the city is very big (e,g Berlin) , there are more than one foreign offices and local government representing different parts of the city. Your visa application would be treated according to the purpose of travelling and by the different foreign office concerned. So, regional system is the best

How has this unitary system serve them?
@arcejiroeshalomi4689
@arcejiroeshalomi4689 4 ай бұрын
@@franklineekemezie6042 No body is advocating for a unitary system.... This why restructuring means different things to different people and I believe the bone of contention is in controlling resources and your security.. The old colonial division along major ethnic groups only served pre independence colonial times and by 1963 there was the Midwestern region and by now there would have been several more regions/states for the purpose of equity among minorities. We have to understand that not all states can unify under a larger region any longer based on just ethnicity it is just not logical any more as larger ethnic will prove dominance over others and ultimately still end up leading us back to square one.... As an Igbo man if IMO, Abia, Anambra Ebonyi and Enugu agree to form one larger entity as a region that's fine, but not enforcing Kogi or Delta because to be part of region because they have igbos there... Speaking the same language doesn't necessarily mean you are the same and can leave together...

Mr. Fapohunda has forgotten that regional government was what Nigeria started with and what resulted in a civil war. We are over 200 million Nigerians and over 200 tribes or ethnic groups. What we need to restructure is our minds and not the country. The National Assembly should continue with Constitutional amendments as necessary. Any Nigerian advocating "restructuring" of the country must present his suggestions to the National Assembly through his representative. I am sick and tired of Nigeria's main tribes behaving as if the other hundreds of tribes do not matter!

We don't need to go back to the exact structure before the Civil War. We can learn from the past and consider that in the new system. That it did not work in the past does not mean it can never work. After all, the one we start after the war is also not working and driving us south. On the channel of presentation, what you suggested was exactly what he did. He sent the document through his representative in the house.
