Nigeria Records Lower Numbers In Bribe Payment

A recent report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Nigeria's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reveals a growing willingness among Nigerians to resist and report bribery.
The report indicates that over 70% of Nigerians refused to pay bribes in 2023, with fewer citizens facing negative consequences for refusing bribe requests compared to 2019.
Additionally, more citizens are reporting bribery incidents, and there has been a significant increase in the initiation of formal procedures against public officials accused of bribery.
