The government in Nigeria has never been the same since its independence. Going back to regional is a reasonable way to go. Nothing is working now in Nigeria apart from stealing, for example, salaries and allowances of senators etc. We don't know how or who propose and approve it. I keep repeating that the salary and allowances of Nigerian senators is a crime against humanity. Going back to the regional government will set in motion if we really want to live together or go separate ways. It would give a group or groups of regions or people that would break from Nigeria momentum to steadily govern the new country. Nigeria will never be united because we have never been one people. Regional government is achievable in all ramifications. However, deamaganizing Nigeria is the best to five countries, North, North central, Mid-belt, east, and west. Moreover, let's call a spade a spade and not garden spoon, let us have the courage and deamaganise Nigeria, full stop

@Wavecurve4 ай бұрын
Certainly, Nigeria had a vibrant economy with regionalism, because there was groundnut pyramid in the North, Cocoa warehouses in the West, miles of palm oil plantation in the East, thriving mining industry in the Middle Belt, etc. But we are now divided into States. We should develop along States line. Going back to regionalism will be a massive blunder, because we will be going to political entities that are bigger than States. Our Administrators or Governors cannot competently manage a State, as it is. And we want to saddle them with even bigger entities. And create bigger chaos, confusion, and inefficiency. We will be back to exactly where we are now, where we are too big to function efficiently or organize smoothly. Ask yourself why smaller countries to whom we sell gas for electricity appear to have more stable power supply than us. Nigeria's problem is over-centralization, whereby we try to manage big entities, instead of breaking them up into smaller independent operations, so that the failure of one does not affect others. For instance, if each State was to provide it's own electricity, at least, one State out of 36 would be efficient at it. And industries would move to that that State. In the same spirit of over-centralization, the federal Government controls the economy. Federal control equalizes all the States to the same level, hinders advancement, and nationalizes poverty. So, the CONCEPT of decentralizing Nigeria is a good one. Decentralization is the practice in all Advanced Nations. Decentralization is the reason advanced economies have stupendously vast economic opportunities. And it is Nigeria's only chance at survival. Decentralization is the reason California (a State) is the 5th largest economy in the world - in the world!!! Now, imagine where Rivers State, Nigeria, would rank, if Nigeria did not practice over-centralized structure that allocates resource revenue of Rivers State to other States, thereby nationalizing poverty. In advanced economies, the federal Government does not take the resource revenue of one State, and allocate it to other States. Each State or Province control their own destiny, to explore, harness, and manage their resources and products. AND RETAIN 100% OF THEIR RESOURCE REVENUE!!!!!! (Of course, States will pay taxes and other statutory payments to the Federal Government) Of course, the federal Government will still control the military, custom and immigration, etc. But States will control their economies, not depend on federal revenue allocation from the resource of Rivers State. This is the only way Nigeria's economy will diversify, rescue Nigeria from dangerous dependence on oil, create vast economic opportunities, rescue Nigeria from economic hardship, and arrest Nigeria's descent into insecurity, chaos and disintegration. Regionalism means backward.

How many countries in the world comprise of people from the same ethnicity? Hope that we could all learn from India. As diverse as it's people are, they have found a way to coexist. All that most of you greedy Nigerians are concerned about is turning every village in Nigeria into a country. Anyone that aspires to be a leader wants to create an easier part way to their goal, hence, a cry of being different, and a new nation. I can bet you that if you succeed in getting that nation, cries would follow of turning every compound or family to a country. Until Nigerians understand that no country in the world is perfect, that they all work on finding a common ground to live together, there will always be a cry for a tribal nation, town nation, village nation or even compound or family nation. Some of you so called community leaders have to get it through your senses that everyone cannot be a president. Stop misleading the people to believe in your fantasies. Let's get away from these policies of intimidation. How could anyone that lived through the old regional system that subjected the minority tribes to untold marginalization propose that as the best system for Nigeria? Did people like Isaac Adaka Boro and others lose their lives in vain? The only problem facing Nigeria is maladministration. The Nigerian Government must invest in appointing qualified people to run the affairs of the government, and on training of administration officials. Let's stop this our neighbors greener grass mentality and invest genuinely in what we have. We have the best country in the world. Our inefficient administration is our main and only problem. Thanks to the people that finally decided to bring back the old Nigerian National Anthem. I called you all visionaries. 'Though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand'. All Nigerians must be retrained to embrace that. 'Oh God of all creation, Grant this our one request. Help us to build a nation, Where no one is oppressed.' Our Loving God of Goodness can fix all things. With our new National Anthem, Nigeria is now directly placed in God's hands. "When petroleum is discovered in a country before democracy has taken root, that country will never see democracy!" This is what is happening to Nigeria---the power of human greed! We made mistake by thinking it was the parliamentary system and changed to the presidential: it got worse and many are asking to restore the parliamentary again! We thought it would be better if smaller admin units are established. We started running a federal system of Regions when the military turned it into a unitary system that has ended up with States......The problem is HUMAN GREED. When petrodollars come raining on a country, the ruthless greedy that exist in all societies push to the front, dominate the environment, displacing the patriotic gentle people into the background and things go haywire as in present Nigeria. Correction may come through a violent revolution that displaces the greedy and ruthless or by violent breakup. Look how the majority of people in power now have cases with the EFCC, or are billionaires from known theft of public funds.
@obehiokojie40665 ай бұрын

Human greed is a problem but it isn't an insurmountable problem in this case. The problem is allowing that greed to affect national structures. The states are the proper federating subdivision and the LGAs the proper administrative subdivision. Nigeria doesn't need new lines drawn in this case. Finally, the solution is th give resource control to federating units(states). If you want to chop petrodollars you know which states to relocate to, simple, as you are welcome in all of them. The issue here was that we allowed tribalists who don't want to leave their ancestoral home to dictate our national structure so they created a structure that siphons oil to where they want to remain instead of migrating to where the money they want is like everyone else does.

We have discussed this issue over the past 40 years or more and highlighted its numerous potential benefits to the nation. I congratulate Dr. Akin Fapohunda for his time in collating most of the details and presenting them as a draft proposal for the government to consider. Those of us who lived under that dispensation can attest to the fact that it was the best Constitution Nigeria ever had. It reflected the true federal nature of our society and helped to prevent the many frictions (ethnic, security, political social etc. issues) that have bedevilled us today. It is the right path to tread for Nigeria. À true federation for the federated units of the country taking into cognizance our dynamic and diverse nature. But if the regional system must work, we need to look critically at bringing back the structures inherent in the 1963 Constitution. That Constitution was the enabling spirit behind the success of the system.

how does yorubaland expand to include some land in kwara and kogi? Those places are yorubas with few other ethnic people lumped up with them. The use of 'expand' is dubious. 70percent of kwara state is yoruba without any dillution. All parts of kogi state till Obajana and kabba are all yorubas without any dillution also. These people of the region have for many years sent bills to the federal government to return them to where they belong and not to lump them with other tribes who do not understand or respect their culture. Till this moment, all the cities and towns in kwara state extending till Offa have clearly stated that their heads is Oba, not emir. When people sent bills and protests to the even military governments since over 40 years , what is your problem with this? These people are not just yorubas, they were never in history related to other tribes until the compulsory almagamation. kwara and kogi was under same old kwara state

The gentleman laid out his views clearly and in very simple manner diagnosed the maladies of the Nigerian polity yet the journalist played dumb through out. Very disgraceful journalism!

I wonder if average Nigerians even want change bcos change must come with cost. dis journalist is just a speaker not a listener.

I support regionalism, But every ethnic group most have their own region .... In the south for example, The Yorubas should be own their own The former kingdom of Benin , and itshekiri, urohbo, etc should have their own region, The ijaws should have their own region from Ondo , Edo, delta, bayelsa, Rivers and akwaibom. The igboid ethnic group should have their own region, from the core five states, Edo, delta, bayelsa, Rivers, akwaibom, cross river, Benue and kogi The ogoni's should have their own region, The efiks should have their own region etc Going north , every ethnic group deserve that and should have that , It doesn't matter if some region will be smaller or bigger Peace is what we deserve, including industrialization Some might think some region won't be prosperous, but it's a lie We have everything we need to grow

@k-dwanks2481 when nigeria was formed, no south south. The yorubas and hausas only taking the south south claimers as fools. Why no west west?

The interviewer is annoying with her reckless interruption of her guest. Her questions about recycling leaders are baseless in this equation. She didn't ask good questions, she just wanted to poke him continuously to see the way he would react. I guessed that she was disappointed. This doctor's manual will work if we follow through, cos it will dispose of the money bag politicians, and give a plain field for others to contest seamlessly without the headache of sourcing for billions to start.

@News Central Tv: This your journalist sounds unintelligent and amateurish. She was just interfering while the guest was making important point and she almost looked ignorant of the subject she was interviewing the guest on. How she be tslking about leadership problem when we all know that the wrong leadership problem is caused by the process of how the leaders emerged.

Unfortunately, Felicity isn't understanding Mr. Akin's point, Nigeria I a contract of money and no ideology or development. Everyone in Abuja is there to steal loot and collect to run to their region. Go back to regional governance and try to loot ...

I’m so glad someone is asking real questions. This guy is full of shit! Just hoping for the best with pinch of prayer that when you break it all up people will just get along. What Nigeria needs is just citizens empowerments: autonomy of local governments, protection of votes, system for citizens assemblies, etc. This guy is corrupt.
