A lot of vets recommend the dipping of the cord in iodine because then the iodine gets up into the actual cord... whereas with the spray, it can easily get licked or wiped off by mama during cleaning.
@SageandStoneHomestead2 жыл бұрын
Do you know if this is recommended based on research or based on theory? I would think mama cleaning plus gravity would still work any iodine out of the end of the cord. Without the vessels pulsing and with the ends having been stretched and broken instead of cut I would think the amount of iodine entering the cord would be minimal. Maybe that's all that matters is that minimal amount. I'll try to dig and see what that recommendation is based on, thank you!! ♡

What a wonderful start for kidding season!! There's just something about those little (? 😊) cries of the newborn kids that always warms my heart! And Rory is such an attentive mom! God is answering our prayers for a good & safe kidding year!! 🙏 I think the Calf Manna is a great idea. Very pricey but well worth it! I use it also. God bless & cuddle those babies for me a little bit....I have a long wait yet!! 😉
@SageandStoneHomestead2 жыл бұрын
It is pricey but when only handfuls are used I feel like one bag can go pretty far. And it's not for everyone either! ❤🐐❤

They all are so beautiful, she did a great job. Congrats to whoever is first on the waiting list. I was wrong however i guessed two big babies lol but hey 3 is even better❤🐐🐐🐐
@SageandStoneHomestead2 жыл бұрын
3 is definitely better especially because 2 does were waitlisted. Now it doesn't matter what Pepper has and bonus girls would give options to the waitlist!

How well do goats raise three? Never had goats. Sheep occasionally have have three but, in my experience, the smallest has always needed intervention to survive. Another excellent video btw! Always exceptional content and editing.
@SageandStoneHomestead2 жыл бұрын
I definitely have to monitor and make sure there isn't one consistently getting bullied away from a teat and sometimes I need to supplement, but Rorie usually has 3 and has always done well feeding 3. Very occasionally do her kids need supplementation! Good question!

Can you please explain how to tell if your goat has moon spots?
@SageandStoneHomestead Жыл бұрын
Yes!! So in order to get moonspots one of the parents has to have them. Our buck Havoc has a lot of them and he passes them on regularly to his kids. The spots are usually very unique in placement and in color. They can't be white or on white, and they can range from super dark brown or black (some people say moonspots can't be black but I'll explain how they can) to tan and very often they are a silver or grayish sheen. They look almost out of place and are really beautiful.. Over time a true moon spot will lighten up. I have a goat who was born with many silver moonspots and she has a tan base color and her moonspots have faded from dark gray to a tan color that almost matches her coat. You can see the spots still though. I hope that helps! I took a video on it and I'll link it here in a second!

I've had goats born with black spots that faded all the way to tan, and that's how I determined they were in fact moonspots. Maybe they were such a dark brown it was hard to tell when they were born that it wasn't actually black, but alas, our Boba Tea girl has a lot of moonspots. ♥
