I was just talking about this with my daughter today. She was busy buying some stocks and called me for advice. I had to tell her how proud I was of her because the majority of Pan Africans that I know have no idea about investing in their future. Truly heartbreaking.

First of all kudos to the woman you sent money to and she did not empty your account, that is someone you should never loose touch with, people like that are hard to find
@FloChinyere4 жыл бұрын
She's trustworthy quite alright but a bank employee cannot just empty your account. The person will lose his/her job and go to jail for that and will never be employed in any financial institution ever again. That there's rampant corruption in Nigeria does not get to the financial sector o. The person can't just get away with such. For how much kwanu? The amount of money in that account at any point in time is not worth it. If it's a random person like a family member or a friend that does not work in the bank, that can happen easily.

Everytime I hear people talk about buying shares or this stock market of a thing I immediately start to get anxiety. I feel like too much mathematics involved 😥 math is not my favourite subject 😐 I always appreciate people..especially women who able to do this kind of investment. Flo, am inspired by this topic and I guess I would like to read that book as well. But definitely not to invest in stocks, hopefully it will guide me towards other opportunities. Thanks dear.
@FloChinyere4 жыл бұрын
In life you can't run away from Maths. Even the cooking I do on this channel, the least expected thing, involves maths to get it right. But I think you are talking about day trading of stocks which involves watching share prices like a hawk, buying low and selling high every single day. I invest in stocks solely for dividends, you do your research once, buy into the company and sit back and get your dividends paid. It's not as crazy as day trading. And you don't make near as much money as day traders. Knowledge is power, if you learn how these things work, there will be no more anxiety rather you will be able to make informed decisions about which types of investments to go for and the ones you will never touch. I'm a passive income investor because I don't like stress at all. lol

This is interesting, however, from where I currently stand, I'll rather invest in properties in Nigeria than buy shares. As a student at the university, I got a little share here and there. I recall 2 of them, 20k, 30k not so much ( but a lot for a university student then lol) Today, I dont know the head or tail of those investments sef. One is still very much alive, while the other bank folded up! One day, I took my certificate of investment to the new owners of the bank and asked about my funds and how best to retrieve it, the bank guy laughed hard😂 and told me to "hold the certificate well oh" and visit their headquarters in Lagos. 😂 Nah, I'm done with Naija shares, stocks et al
@FloChinyere4 жыл бұрын
Sis you went to the wrong people. That someone works in a bank does not mean they know jack about investments. You should have gone to the registrar handling the shares of that company (this information is available online) which is usually a separate entity from the institution even if it's a bank. For instance, Access Bank shares is handled by Access Registrars which though a sister company to Access Bank, is a different entity. GT Bank stock is handled by Datamax Registrars etc. Usually when a bank goes under, the shares are converted to another bank's shares hence the shareholders transferred to whichever company that acquired the dead one. The number of shares may reduce because they are usually revalued to the value of the new company's shares Though there's usually a deadline for transfer but you can still check. It all comes back to financial education. When you know how this works, you will know how to follow up when something happens. When it comes to shares and real estate, you don't have to choose one over the other. Having a diverse portfolio is the way to go. Meanwhile the amount of money you need to invest in real estate is way more than the amount you need to invest in shares so not everyone can jump into real estate from the onset. One can start with shares and get into real estate when capable. Nothing wrong with having both. It's just a matter of knowing the ins and the outs.

@FloChinyere4 жыл бұрын
Find out who the Unity Bank registrar is and contact the registrar. Just Google "unity bank shares registrar" and the name of their registrar should come up in the search results. If you bought the shares at the stock exchange it means you have a stockbroker, in that case you can also contact your stockbroker to send you your stock position.

@FloChinyere4 жыл бұрын
@@peaceibe3380 always the current registrars. When a company changes registrars, the old one moves all data to the new registrar. It's just like when people move houses, you should always go look for them at their current address.
